Hi, I've read parts of your article (it is long) and I must say I'm impressed with it, this is the typical information one would hide from the world to have success on your own  Durr...?

There's one thing I'd like to ask you: I'm a social media nerd, this means I don't use Facebook, I quit Twitter a month ago and never have used reddit, tumblr or stumble upon. I have had a deviantART account for four years now and I've managed to get 4,000 lousy visits to my profile.  Facepalm Should I improve my social media skills to succeed? Should I hire a social media manager? Is it critical to have those skills?

Yesterday I read on Yahoo that Facebook is losing its sex appeal, it's not fun anymore, there's too much advertising, youngsters are not using it.

Your music sounds very professional, I especially like those "Action" ones with strong guitars or dark rythms. Congrats!  Ninja

Voytek,

the main link and the second one, pointing to your Youtube account, are broken. Please fix them to have increased exposure.

Other than this, I'll tell you something about your music in a couple hours, when I have had time to listen to it.  Durr...?
224  Developer / Business / Re: Kickstarter & Steam Greenlight for Promo? on: March 06, 2013, 07:05:08 AM
I have visited your website. Have you made those graphics yourself? They are super cool!

I don't think a kickstarter without a reason will work, if you don't have a fan base neither a 'special feature like saving children' approach it won't work. I have never tried, though. The truth is that I'm becoming lazy these days, I haven't released a game for about a year.

On Greenlight I have no idea.

It is also because undesired chemicals have been found on the horse meat; they were suitable for horses but not for humans.

Impmaster, so gourmet with BigMac (you don't like it) but you seem to enjoy meat horse? LOL

I don't know what the final deal will look like, but if they are going to spend money on marketing, even if they are just going to put the game in front of their distribution channels, this sounds like a great idea!

Congrats!

And here in Europe you can add a bit of horse meat these days... Delicious!  Screamy

Google is so customized these days, my brother and I get different results on same search requests, it's the problem on Google having all our information, info we don't even know ourselves (we can't process that level of information).

If you have a trailer on Youtube, you can submit it to http://www.pliski.com/ , a video recommendation engine that doesn't require login. It has been said in other thread, though.

I'm sorry aberrantmind, I don't use Game Maker and don't know how to use it. Perhaps someone here knows a bit of it...?

LOL. Those two tracks remind me of some WOW music. BTW, your entry for the contest is great, it's the one really discouraging me from present mine, I think it's very good, congrats.
232  Developer / Business / Re: Finding motivation on your daily job on: March 05, 2013, 03:50:37 AM
I have got to a conclusion:

You have to be motivated in everything you do. For instance, everyone not working at Apple should be demotivated because Apple is always improving stuff and it's the best company. But there's room for improvement in every field of life. I don't really know what's going on the US about bicycles, but in Europe there has been a recent improvement and now they are portable, with small wheels and long seat. This change has occurred recently and the bicycle was invented long time ago and it was supposed to be completed.

I'm a web developer for small business and I'm trying to have great fun doing it, although I'd like to be a renowned animator, videogame creator and musician. My opinion now is that everything counts, and especially those things that bring money home...  Gentleman

Hey, there's such a high level on the shown compositions above! It is discouraging!!  Sad But I have to recognise that it is also teasing me to submit my pick! Congratulations on those creations!

Question to 8th Mode Music: Do you play WOW? I can feel two of your tracks on Soundcloud could be influenced by WOW music: Legends of War, Valley Song. I love these tracks, BTW.  Smiley

I must say two things:

  • I don't know exactly what the compressor does.
  • I disagree, I think the compressor normalizes the sound: It boost it up if it is needed, but it lowers it down if it is needed so in the end you have a very standard, smooth and homogeneous sound wave. Like a frankfurten sausage. Smiley
238  Developer / Audio / Re: Need Feedback and Help! on: March 02, 2013, 12:34:11 PM
Aside from using a compressor, which is totally recommended to boost up and normalize your sound signal, I would suggest another small trick:

Give each note a slight different velocity so it resembles a more natural play, like if it was played live. You know, a live musician won't play every note at the same level.

I use this on my drum tracks, violins, trumpets... everything. Also controling the volume of the signal of each track and playing with it. The whole song will sound smoother and cooler, or at least that's why I think Smiley

239  Developer / Business / The future of the internet: How success is made on: March 02, 2013, 11:57:48 AM
Hi all,

I've been thinking about stuff that is going on right now with the appearance of the internet on earth, many things are changing, including the way people achieve 'success'. By 'success' I mean making a game like Minecraft, which is making millions, or creating a Youtube video like Nyan Cat, which has been seen by millions.

Just a couple of points to get started. Whatdya think?
  • AAA games and TV series will tend to be smaller
  • Indie games will tend to be bigger
  • We will see the total collapse of the current entertainment business, whith thousands of TV channels or creators struggling to succeed (like it has happened with music)
  • Aired TV will die and On Demand TV will raise
  • Tech tends to be free (Linux, Firefox, games...)
  • Success will be shorter (Nobody knows who Psy is today, but we know who Baauer is, though will have forgotten tomorrow)
  • Repeat on succeeding will be like finding a needle in a haystack
  • Will be more difficult to monetize success
  • As there are much more content windows, advertising revenue will scatter -->> will be smaller for everyone
  • News are free, information is free
  • Freedom will raise
  • We will all become Rastafarian
  • The spirit of Bob Marley will resurrect and it will rule the World

Hey it's saturday, I'm going out.  Mock Anger

The games I designed as a kid...

We should go back to Madrid, Spain, 1992. I was 11 and we raised some funds to start our new graphic adventure with a friend... We started a company and made a couple of sketches...

Unfortunately, I don't know where that friend has gone now and no idea where the sketches are... LOL. But I remember those years as awesome  Smiley
