1  Community / Jams & Events / Looking for C# Programmer & 2D / 3D artist (Car Racing Game) on: November 23, 2013, 04:00:24 PM
Hello, we are a team of 5 people right now, working on Free Car Racing MMO.

As a side project, to raise funds for our main project, we are also working on making few small Mobile (iOS, Android) racing games, in different categories. (racing, parking, truck delivery, multiplayer, etc.) We are currently 2-3 weeks away from releasing our first mobile racing game.

What do we need?

  • We are searching for additional C# programmer. What you will do depends on your skills and interests. For example, anything from tweaking physics, to making new game modes, to making multiplayer integration, etc...
  • We are also searching for additional 3D artist to make car models and environment props. That mainly includes making of low & medium & high poly 3D cars and body parts but from time to time also few props such as lamp posts, gates, fences, basically scenery for tracks. It is a plus if you can do texturing too.
  • We are also searching for 2D artist or illustrator, to make GUI, and promotional pictures (for example for appstore and play market) and menu backgrounds.

Who is on team:

  • 3x Programmers (all from US)
  • 1x 3D artist (from Nepal)
  • Me (from Slovenia) - (project manager & game designer & a bit of 3D modeler & website designer & recruiter & community manager)

  • This is a profit-sharing project and has potential to do quite well in the market. (there will be in-game shop)
  • This is longterm project, since its a MMO. We will be supporting it for a long time after it is released. So if it is successful we will have jobs for a long time.
  • A Kickstarter is planned after some time when there is a bit to show, as well as a Steam Greenlight.
  • There are regular weekly team meetings on Google Hangouts, and also we have group conversation on Skype
  • I do not ask you to work on this project 8 hours a day, i know you guys go to jobs, or have college... but I expect some level of commitment and 15+ hours weekly.
  • We use Unity3D engine, and for uLink multiplayer library. We use bitbucket.org for version control.
  • "Bizilux Games" company will be established once we gather some funds, and contracts will be written and signed.

Few years ago, I used to play racing game called Project Torque. I loved it and played it nonstop, but then it was shut down because of some licencing problems between developers and publisher.

That game was Free to play car racing MMO. There were 10 Tiers of cars, lower tier cars were slow and cheap, and then the higher you went, the better the cars were. And ofcourse they were more expensive. On each car you could upgrade components (suspension, tires, engine, etc..) and also install new body kits, change rims, paint car, put on decals, etc...

You did this with in-game money that you got from winning races or participating in them. You could ofcourse speed the process and buy virtual money for real money, or buy items such as 2x cash per race or 2x XP per race.

There was also leveling system in game, so that you needed certain level in order to buy new cars or upgrade components.

There were few different game modes, such as: Race, Sprint, Capture the flag, Sumo, Drift... My game will have a bit more game modes, such as Demolition Derby, Infected, Bank Heist, Cops vs Robbers and few others... and all of this will be multiplayer, so that means lots of fun!
So as you can imagine i want to make similar game as Project Torque was, but with better game engine(Unity3D), which means everything will be better  And also a lot better than NFS world is. lol... Smiley

I plan on having all players from the same region (EU or USA) on 1 server, and the idea is that there would be 1 huge city where there would be all players inside, who are not racing at that time. So players could just hang out and chat, drive around, do some interesting stuff like being taxi driver?, etc... so MMO part of the title comes from this. Basically all players would be at same location and could talk to eachother, and when they wanted to race, they would open server browser and either create room, or join one. So in a sense it would be an open-world game where you could drive around and show everyone your car.

Current state of the game
Capture the flag is almost done, 1 track is almost done, Infected Mode is in works.

Game is being made in Unity 3D and i've been working a lot for the past week on it... i made 1 model of Nissan GTR in 3DS Max, its got way too high polycount, 30k, but yeh it was my first model that i made so...
rest of the objects in game were taken from unity asset store or from internet... with proper permissions of course

i am using edy's vehicle physics, playmaker, NGUI, and Photon for multiplayer...

i've been currently trying to get multiplayer to work, (photon in specific), but without luck... its really complicated and its just way above my knowledge...

-------

For Alpha v0.1 i was thinking of having
Capture the Flag mode, and Infected mode (1 player starts as infected car, and he needs to ram other players to get them infected, and basically round is over when all players are infected, and you get points based on how long you survive)
and mulitplayer in... 8 players per room... but that is causing me problems right now

-------

Let me know what you guys think of it

I am also searching for team members... more info here:  http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=37069.0

What I need?

  • I badly need Programmer who knows his way around coding the multiplayer, since everything in this game will be based on multiplayer, so that is the most important job
  • 3D Artist, for modelling cars, bodykits, props
  • Everything else (Programmer(For other stuff than multiplayer), Sound engineer, 2D artist for HUD & Menus & Images, + others... )

What will I bring to team?
  • I am a Game Designer, I will basically coordinate this whole team, since this game is my passion, and I really want to see it succeed. I am a little bit of everything Smiley
  • I am quite handy with playmaker (it is visual coding extension for unity)
  • I also know my way around 3DS max, so I can make some cars (that nissan GTR model is mine for example)
  • I can make websites, I have been doing them for quite some time.

Other information
  • Game is being developed in Unity3D
  • This is a profit-sharing project and has potential to do quite well in the market.
  • A Kickstarter is planned after some time when there is a bit to show, as well as a Steam Greenlight. Hopefully we will make some money from donations too (for some important Assets and maybe outsourcing some work)
  • There will be regular weekly team meetings on Skype
  • I do not ask you to work on this project 8 hours a day, i know you guys go to jobs, or have college... but I expect some level of commitment and few hours daily.

I vote for "Put this same question on 4chan and promise to implement the most popular story". Smiley

But yes, good luck! I love that you want story for something that everyone else would have churned out as just another lil' minigame.

heh 4chan yeh and offer them a place in credits section Smiley

and yes i want the story since it will boost my sales quite high. game will be for iphones, free for few levels, then 1$, so story has to be good so it sucks the player in and he wants to know what happens next

Wow, sounds like one awesome ripoff of a certain game....

its not a rip off if you make it hell of a lot better and it will not even be on the PC...
