4  Community / DevLogs / Wotan - Modern Norse Beat-Em-Up on: May 16, 2016, 10:48:08 AM
Wotan

_________________________________________________________________

Wotan is an old school arcade style beat-em-up focusing on the character Wotan, the former leader of the ruthless biker gang known as the Aesir. Years later after starting an orphanage and moving on from his past Wotan hears that his ex-girlfriend P. Lip has kidnapped all the children at his orphanage and taken them elsewhere. The only way to get them back is through a long and wild hunt across America.

_________________________________________________________________

Wotan's setting combines the modern world with old Norse myth retelling the stories of the Aesir gods in a new light. Along the path you will make friends and enemies depending on your actions in the game. Decided to let (Fenrir) live? Tylo (Týr) is no longer able to trust you. Murdered a large number of the members of the local reptile gang (the Jötunn)? Gill (Gilling) the leader of the reptiles now wants you dead.

other notes:

  • Choose to either "beat up" or murder your enemies as you play; these choices will influence the storyline and characters you meet and team up with along the way
  • Light Visual Novel elements play out between stages and boss fights; these moments not only move the story forward, but allow you to make new friends or enemies to help or hinder you along the way
  • Based on the folk myth of the Wild Hunt, learn and get to know Norse characters and history in a new and and bloody light!

/end promo talk >_<

Hi, I'm a longtime TIG person, but now doing an actual devlog of my current project since I don't post enough.

I have a prototype/alpha demo that is working I've spent the past 3 months putting together that I'll have linked as soon as I get it online and clean up a few kinks in it. There will be a Kickstarter going up in a week or so, depending on the work [/center]needed beforehand, but dev work is moving smoothly. The game is being done in Gamemaker using vectors (not sprites!) of illustrator drawings converted to .SWFs and then incorporated into Gamemaker.

I'll be posting updates as they happen here on the log. Any input is appreciated!

check my stuff out if you can and PM me if it piques your interest at all
8  Jobs / Collaborations / Vector Artist looking for interesting project/programmer to colab w on: March 12, 2015, 04:04:33 PM

Hi,

I've currently been working on my own project in GameMaker Studio but have been semi burnt out programming lately and would like to primarily focus on making the art for a game of some sort. My background is in contemporary art, primarily using game engines to build my artwork and interactive installations.

You can check my currently on hold game below (w/pics):

http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=45540.0

and also look at some of my 2D stuff here:

http://wolfofvictoria.com/category/2d/

You can also try out some random games I've made here:

http://wolfofvictoria.itch.io/

Mostly interested in working with a creatively open programmer willing to experiment and have fun ^_^

PM me if you have any interest or would even just want to talk.

I've been put on a major delay from developing the game currently due to my workload at my regular daytime job :-/

Here though is some art research I did a while ago exploring some Norse moments with Odin and Mimir (click image for full res)

Random prototyping

11  Community / DevLogs / Re: P_ssy Lip on: January 17, 2015, 11:25:03 AM
Here's something I prototyped recently, but will most likely not use in the game. Just was messing with overhead controls + AI

This dosn't mean this game is an overhead shmup of any sort, just messing with things ^_^

So I cleaned up Yggdrasil where it's more universally playable now. If you'd like to give it a go head over to my itch.io and give it a whirl.

Download Yggdrasil Page Link

Note that Pussy Lip will handle and look alot better than this as I was restrained by a semester of time since it was built for my thesis (along with writing and defending... etc). If any control issues pop up please let me know. It's recommended to be played with 2 controllers and is 2 player only.

also you can feel free to download my other experimental work focused on a section of Wagner's Ring Cycle Opera:

Download Page

It's very basic and short, but was part of my study working towards my thesis. Just use Spacebar to navigate.

I'll come back and post soon some more progress on Pussy Lip in the next few days as I go along ^_^

In the time being though enjoy these experiments I've made in the past  Smiley

14  Community / DevLogs / Re: Adventure Apes: Journey to Europa (Android/PC) Playable Demo! on: January 15, 2015, 01:13:43 PM
This looks great! Really love the ship designs.
15  Community / DevLogs / Re: P_ssy Lip on: January 15, 2015, 08:33:41 AM
So originally I was considering the inclusion of a gun system in this game, but I am more leaning towards a beat-em-up but road rash style.

I've been wanting to code this all week but work has been exhausting all week  Droop

This is an old animation test still that made me realize that character portraits will work better than fully animated ones due to time restraints:

Here's another older character WIP though:

In the mean time enjoy this Luck simulator I made a year ago:

wow  Crazy
okay, everything looks very unique in style and colors, i like it.
and everything fits, like, all the art fits with each other, except for the hamburguers... whats up with the hamburguers?

There's a backstory for that where it has some Norse story tied in. The short of it is that Odin's eye was lost at a fast food joint where it was deep fried and became part of a value meal. In the game Yggdrasil Odin's Eye (known as Wotan) is heading back to the Mimir's Well where it belongs... so yeah  Tongue

17  Community / DevLogs / P_ssy Lip on: January 10, 2015, 02:31:20 PM
First time in a while, but thanks to a kind NeoGafer, took his advice to start a devlog here.

Note the the forum title isn't accurate, I just didnt want to have a title popping up that may come off as offensive while people are at work/scrolling/etc.

Pussy Lip

Quote

Story centers around a violent biker (protagonist) in search of his ex-girlfriend, a stripper by the alias of Pussy Lip (Pussy as in Cat) for reasons currently unknown. His journey takes across the US in search of individuals that know of her whereabouts or have crossed roads with her. Some live but many die along the way.

I plan to build it as a title that is arcadey (travel sections: motorcycle beat em ups, test your might style death games, etc.), conversational (simple choice/dialogue), spontaneous (kill when you want), and more TBD

Influences are based around primarily on Norse storytelling, strippers, murder, and death games. Game influences stem from titles like Carmen Sandiego, Westerado, Mortal Kombat, and more as it fills out through development.

This is a one man project with me programming and designing all the art. It is being done in GameMaker, as I am the most experienced in GaemMaker. I primarily create art installations as my main form of work (GameMaker has been a good friend) and hold a a graduate degree in Art + Technology in Contemporary Art.

Here are some early development art, note I say early for a reason (character designs are a go, but the interface being shown is getting scrapped):

Currently the game's base is being built and it's already turning out great. I do not know how I will achieve all that I have planned, but I am setting this as a project that will take me at least a year. This is a dream project that I finally have the time and ability to create.

I've created a finished game named "Yggdrasil" in a similar style that needs some minor tweaks before I can officially release it, but below you can see some buggy GIFs of it in action (shot during development, so final release looks a little different):

You can also visit my online shirt shop if you want to see some more things in the same style that I design on my free time.

if you want to follow along you can watch this thread and listen in on Twitter if you'd like ^_^

Really stoked about doing this, looking to the hard work ahead, and dev make time!  Beer!

Sorry for the mess of the thread as I'm still getting use to getting back into TIGSource Forums >_<
18  Community / Creative / Puting Chiptunes Concert/Indie Games Showcase on: August 04, 2010, 06:05:45 PM
I'm currently in the process of putting together a Miami based show, located in the downtown heart of Miami where most social events happen, of chiptunes musicians and showcase indie games as well during the entirety of the night.

I'm curious if there are any Miami, Florida, or anywhere based game designers that would like to have their work in the show.

I am currently sorting my options for a venue but it will be something a lot of people will come out too no matter what knowing how such events turn out in Miami in the locations I have planned.

Post if you have any interest. I'm looking primarily for unique playing and unique looking stuff. Joystick/USB control preferred since this is something the public will be playing on projectors.
19  Community / Jams & Events / Re: Tips on starting a game jam? Miami on: June 29, 2010, 07:44:35 PM
I'm hoping to meet up with a friend I havent seen in a while to get this thing started soon but I have to see what will work best. So far I'm still leaning towards having a portion of it at a local bar, but maybe the development phase somewhere else and the finished products playable at the bar.
20  Community / Jams & Events / Re: Tips on starting a game jam? Miami on: June 24, 2010, 10:38:45 PM
I have a few friends who own a bar/club space that is pretty slow during the morning (ie no activity) but very fun late at night. I was thinking it would lead to a good dev time early in the day and a good show off time at night.
