jus' dropping by to say this looks fun and i've had a listen to some of sam's work for it and it's gonna sound as good as it looks.

Is this the final product? I feel like it's too disjointed at this stage. Maybe it takes fading the ends of each sample - they sound too jittery to me. Listening to some animal crossing gameplay right now it sounds as though they have specific samples which they randomise.

You are very close to this but it comes off as a bit too choppy in the garblevoices_8bit.ogg.

306  Developer / Technical / Re: GM N00B Question on: August 04, 2012, 01:49:36 PM
Thanks guys - that fixed it!

The bracket thing was my failure to copy the whole of the code - it's in there.

onwards and upwards until the next problem arises. : )
307  Developer / Technical / Re: GM N00B Question on: August 02, 2012, 12:12:15 PM
OK! Next problem:

When the slug gets hit with rain it goes red (separate sprite - sSlugScream) so i'm

Code:
if(place_meeting(x,y,oDrop))

{
sprite_index=sSlugScream;
}

if (sprite_index=sSlugScream)
{
if (timer<timer_max)
{
timer+=1;
}
else
{
sprite_index=sSlugR
}

For some reason, it only goes red once. The following times it gets hit it doesn't change to sSlugScream anymore just stays normal.
Does anyone know why it's doing this?

Nice Ray Mears style survival and beautiful art : )
Chris has done a great job on the music & sound too! Really fitting and atmospheric.
Will be trying the alpha out soon.

I wonder, (I haven't read the whole thread but...) how much will the story be pushing the gameplay? At the moment i'm lacking reasons why he's surviving or escaping or going anywhere? (I'm sure you can easily answer this question though).
309  Community / DevLogs / Re: Funny Monkey (tentative title) on: August 01, 2012, 09:14:08 AM
keep going!

All i can think of is a bowling game with all these different characters.
310  Community / DevLogs / Re: Entity 37 on: August 01, 2012, 07:33:45 AM
This was surprisingly joyous to play! It felt really cool discovering how i could throw everything about! I had the same issues as others that the enemy hit box was too small and i kept moving towards them instead of picking them up. Maybe separate mouse clicks for moving and interacting??? (While i say that, i'm using a trackpad so that definitely wouldn't work in my case)...

Looks neat.

Entity 37 looks a bit like parappa the rapper when he turns around - being a kinda paper person didn't make me feel as powerful as i wanted to feel.
311  Community / DevLogs / Re: Funny Monkey (tentative title) on: August 01, 2012, 04:38:05 AM
I want to play as all of these characters apart from the monkey (and maybe "a guy').

Perhaps this is to my folly but i'm not a huge fan of making licensed music... I would rather a portal for people to get in contact about seeking custom music but i suppose that is here... Although if i am ever in the market - it's good to see that devs are there seeking it. Thanks for the link.

@Ozoh - i like some of your harmonic choices and you've got some nice timbres going on as well! Night Watch seems to trail off a bit at the end for me - where there's no accompaniment to the melody/noodling. Some of the beats (particularly the second) seem a little out of place to me. I would favour something a little more sparse and experimental like the rest of the tracks.

I love the descriptions & art though!

real pretty : ) good job.

shiiiiit postpre - this is hot! There's something about the bass that isn't sitting exactly right with me. But that's a big issue i have with this genre. The kick is always so prevalent and there might be some low/mid stuff in the sample you're using and then having a huuuuge bass sometimes messes around with it. I can never decide whether I think the bass needs to be turned down or where it needs space via the other tracks or whether bass is needed at all! What do you think about this issue? It's kinda confused me quite a bit and i get to a stage where i can't decide whether something sounds good or not.

I've updated an earlier track from super ubi land quite a lot (more wub now  Shrug heh heh)
http://soundcloud.com/calumbowen/super-ubi-land-earth-level

It's one of those things where i get too excited and don't realise if it's like "YEAAAAH!" or like "that's inappropriate for a kids-style platformer game"

This is some beautiful work Josh. I hope you find a lot of work.   :  )
EDIT: Upon reviewing the situation, it appears he's a bit of a bad dude Cool. You can read for yourself below. I wouldn't work with him based on these testimonies. Still it's quite beautiful art :  )
317  Developer / Audio / Re: Show us some of your music! on: July 25, 2012, 09:02:05 AM
@mono - like it! It got my head bopping instantly. The melody at the start made me think of march of the dreadnoughts from FFXIII
Love the subtly extended chords at the end - it nearly sounds like the harmonic artefacts of the tone are producing complex chords but i think you played them - the F# in the second chord is a lovely dissonance. it's am7 right with the f#? I'm not too hot on chord names.

@woos - hahaha that sounds like a similar experience to mine with the same game and dev. After a little chasing up I was kindly rejected Cry hehe. I really like this track though. The timbres of the main instrument remind me of sigur ros. It's like a glock or a toy piano or something? What instrument is playing the main tune?

318  Developer / Audio / Re: Aspiring voice actor looking for a cool project. on: July 23, 2012, 06:12:08 PM
good job! You fit a character already! By which i mean, when i listen to your voice, i don't imagine a person in a room speaking into a microphone.

I wish you the best of luck!
319  Developer / Audio / Re: Show us some of your music! on: July 21, 2012, 05:27:16 AM
hmmm! I definitely agree on the weak snare of the first one.

I'm finding it hard to get a hang of making the drums JUST right in that style... so thank you. You think just one clap is the best bet?

Thank you Jackson - i worked a while on making some of those sounds (especially the bass sounds) while others were NI's massive presets!  Wink

Multi-band compressor - thank you! I'll give it a try!

Cool idea - it'd be great to talk in detail about our tracks. Really helpful for everyone involved!
Please fix the link so I can start asking questions!
