- The levelling curve, every level from 30 to 80 should take you equally long to complete.
This is not really a thing, imho. I feel like in WoW, GW, and SWToR, all the levels felt like they generally took the same amount of time to get through (assumign I was actually trying to level and not dicking around) and even then, that's still 50 levels.
You know what was unique and different? Having a low level cap so that people could get to max over a single weekend, if they so desired, or could play an hour a week and get there in half a year. Unless each level lasts like 15 minutes, it's still going to be useless grind. The FAQ says each level will take around 90 minutes. 30-80 alone will take about 3 days real time. That is almost as long as it takes to get from 0-max in SWToR! So, what's the point of the linear leveling requirements if it still takes the same amount of time.

- There supposed to be no parties in PvE, you just see a guy bashing monsters so you run over there and help him and you both get rewards.
What does this even do for the experience? Encourage people to form ad hoc groups to complete tough missions? You mean...what already happens... but now it's unofficial? If all participating players get full rewards, what is stopping botters and gold sellers from just getting 5 guys together and all hitting the same target, getting 5x the rewards for free?

- You have a personal, branching storyline which is affected by your race, starting character choices and the choices you later make during the quests that are included in your storyline. Basically much more RPG in an MMORPG.
SWToR had the personal storyline thing, it was really dumb. Also, I'm pretty sure every game since Fable 1 has offered personal, branching storylines with choices that matter but none have really delivered. Plus all my friends get bored when I watch the cutscenes all the way through Sad

- The dynamic events, those are randomly appearing quest best explained by an example:
Yes, cool, now instead of talking to a dude with a yellow exclamation mark above his head I get to wander around until stuff begins happening.
Granted, this stuff does sound cool, but then again Rifts and Warhammer: Age of Reckoning had these things, or at least the proto-version, and they were dumb. I'm not sure if it really matters whether I save that village or not, I level up in 90 minutes and then I'm going to the next zone!
And anyways, what's the difference between taking a quest which spawns 10 bandits that run at you and try to kill villagers in WoW, and randomly stumbling upon a quest that spawns 10 bandits that run at you and try to kill villagers in GW2? On their website they say they are fixing a flawed design, but they are really just making it random. You do what they want you to do when they want you to do it!

Really, though, none of the PvE stuff interests me in the slightest, and that's where they're making most of their "changes" from the MMO formula. As far as PvP goes it looks like they're doing the same old boring crap. And also they took away my p...precious world pvp... Beg why would I play a game without world pvp. Screw WvWvW junk, I don't care about The Ultimate BattleGround, I want to see a guy trying to kill a snake man and I want to ruin his day, and I want people to see me killing polar bears and they try to ruin my day. But it won't work, because I love every second of it.

I wouldn't say it was better because I got attached to my character more. I would say I prefer Diablo 2's systems because the choices I made were mine. Who cares if maxing out Find Potion or whatever that barbarian skill was and intelligence wasn't a viable build - at least I could do it, and have a hell of a fun time struggling against impossible odds with my shitty goofball build.

I guess it is a shitty reason to prefer something, but it still irks me that

agreed. when i have all the options available at all times it doesn't feel like i'm making my own character (not to mention the progression is completely linear from what i know). might as well call assigning items to buttons in zelda "customization."

As a sequel to GW2, it's shit. But as an MMO trying to do things a bit differently than other MMO's it looks pretty good.

Will finally get to see how well everything works this weekend

what is it doing differently?

To be fair, Diablo 2 was also terribly easy until late Nightmare, even played on #players8. I remember running through Normal without even stopping to kill monsters, just to get through it ASAP.
This is sorta true, and I guess kind of redeems that aspect of Diablo 3 in my mind. At least in Diablo 2, though, there were some huge threats even in Normal. Lightning enchanted monsters and a couple of champion/unique/super uniques (Duriel!) were always really hard fights for me.

Eh. It's not a terrible game. Not unless you're a high maintenance indie who only likes works of art.
Ook, ouch. I wish I could argue against you on that, but it might be true.
105  Player / Games / Re: Diablo 3 O_o !! on: April 22, 2012, 11:52:33 PM
everybody who says it is not a bad game, just a bad diablo game, is objectively wrong.

Well maybe that is a little harsh, but I seriously could not find anything enjoyable about the game from any perspective. It was a facebook game, plain and simple. I was playing farmville. Click the skeleton to kill it, get 2 gold, buy a new club, now tell all your friends! Now you can super click to kill skeletons faster to get more gold faster! Buy from our store with real money!

Is it even possible to take damage in this game? Like, does the health bar serve any purpose? Why can I walk through a group of 20 enemies and not get hit a single time. Why do teleporter enemies teleport directly behind me and then walk away instead of backstabbing me. What use is the wizard's second primary ability, the one that shoots sparks randomly on the ground for a tiny tiny range. Why do I get one skill or rune every several levels and why can't I allocate attribute points?
In diablo 2 I put all my attributes into vitality and maxed out werebear. I was the druid with the most life. I can't do that in diablo 3, all I can do is be the wizard who uses the knockback rune instead of the +20 damage rune or whatever.
Apparently crafted loot is better than looted loot in this one? What's the point of sweet sweet loots if I'm just buying crafted armor from the auction house with my allowance money? Enemies should just drop tokens inscribed with fun words like "disappointment".
Are any of these things just issues with the beta? Is the full game going to be better? Am I gonna need to play through normal and nightmare to get to the fun/challenging difficulty? Will they offer more customizability (seriously, at least let me change the face. I know you can do it, Blizzard. I know you can let me customize my face)

Oh, and let me play without an internet connection.

The dialogue, at least for the female Wizard, is awful. It's like they didn't even try to make it mesh with what the NPC's are saying

Also, I love how I'm playing a single player game, but still face severe lag issues. That was definitely my favorite part.
107  Player / Games / Re: League of Legends on: April 09, 2012, 01:00:05 PM
Watching people play this at PAX was funny.

Morello is commentating a game of dominion. A low hp Ezreal grabs the healing rune things as he gets ignited and dies.

Morello: "I think the reason Ezreal died is because the ignite debuff stopped him from healing enough."

thx morello, thx for the info

There was also a Yi with Boots of Speed, Prospector's Blade, 2 Phantom Dancers and 2 Zeals. Pro gamezzz

I was recently thinking about a fighting game that resolves around the inner 'energy' as a main power of all characters. I take this concept from many japanese animes where the energy is a main indicator of person's power. The characters can both (depending on their skill of course) sense the energy and control how much they 'release' when being idle. Approaching a really powerful character would make the whole screen shake, distort and tear, rendering your character useless and stunned by fear, while showing your power to weaklings would make them drop on their knees. I see this game as an open-world free-roaming  where you have to carefully pick your fights basing on the visual feedback you get while sensing the energy.

Oh gosh, this is a game that I am making.
Get out of my head!  No No NO

edit: Except mine is more about 'normal' samurai and less about power levels and shaky screens.

His hands are a little weird, but other than that, it's real good!

I have to say, I kinda liked the flat, cartoon-y old-style from the very earliest versions of the game, but the new pixel art is really, really good!

A worthy trade-off, I say.

If I remember correctly, the pot next to the store with the save cart has 10 coins in it, which is exactly how much the cart costs.

A lot of areas will have pots that correspond to what you'll need.
At least one of the pots on the Surface should contain all the coins you need to buy the Game Master ROM. If you're having trouble doing that, you just need to practice the timing needed for the whip.

Oh wow. The manual says the 10x Cartridge is what saves the game. I avoided buying the Game Master entirely because I wanted to buy the game saving ROM...

And now, after playing the game for 30 seconds, I have saved for the very first time.  Embarrassed

I keep dying before I can get the item that lets me save  Sad
112  Hidden / Game Club / Re: TIGS Game Club: La Mulana on: March 28, 2012, 10:39:51 AM
Well, I'm stuck! I can't find any coins, there are no coins! I've killed every snake and every chicken and busted every pot, 1 coin. I will never buy any of the equipment I need to progress.

Slowpoke will most certainly never not be the best pokemon

114  Player / Games / Re: DotA 2 Thread on: March 25, 2012, 05:24:55 PM
Just had 3 people leave a bot game after I died like 3 times. This game rules
115  Player / Games / Re: DotA 2 Thread on: March 25, 2012, 09:22:50 AM
My first game. I randomed Sand King, ended up mid vs Zeus. Did well until about 30 minutes in, and then all the bots clumped up and slaughtered me. I'd be like, way back behind my turret and suddenly I would be killed to death Sad That happened like 5 times.

By the way, the name I show up as is THE DARK CARNIVAL, JUGGABRO. I think that's what I'm supposed to give? Or do I give the login name for Steam?
116  Player / Games / Re: DotA 2 Thread on: March 24, 2012, 10:38:29 PM
Well, I know the theory behind these kinds of games (my brother is like ultra-pro and one of my roommates plays all day every day), it's just in practice I am really bad.

I'm, I'm gonna try it out, and we'll see how this goes  Noir
117  Player / Games / Re: DotA 2 Thread on: March 24, 2012, 06:43:55 PM
so I am really bad at these kinds of games, but I have a cd key for it?

Is it worth it to play this if you are REALLY, REALLY bad? I can't imagine any friends wanting to play with somebody as bad as me.
118  Player / Games / Re: Legend of Grimrock on: March 24, 2012, 10:06:40 AM
The backgrounds look really flat to me. I know they're not, but I feel like they are just a wooden backdrop that the monsters stand in front of.

It's a really offputting effect

I still wish Twitch could still lane like normal

I mid AP Twitch very successfully
120  Community / DevLogs / Re: Temple of the Spear on: March 20, 2012, 10:07:31 PM
Did not play it all the way through yet, but thought I'd let you know:

Overall, I enjoyed what I played. The graphics were a little weird, but I understand what you were trying to do. The only real issue I had was sometimes the combat felt clunky, especially when dealing with the ninjas that shoot at you.

I almost never threw spears, except to flip switches behind fences. It never felt necessary. Stabbing people was always more efficient.

I will say, I am glad I played this game. To be honest, I looked at this thread a few times and passed it over, but I finally decided to give it a try and  Beer!
