Player / General / Re: Racism in Gaming - Lichtspeer

Racism isn't a cute, speculative or figurative idea, it is an abrupt disruption in dignity and destiny on the basis of superficial physical traits and appearances. I guess it's not valid. I'm over it. This discussion is getting mad pretentious now anyway and I'm not going to take the brunt of any hurt feelings. No, see, that's the whole thing my post was about: Racism is the things you say it isn't. That's what the word means, and that's how the word is used, and that's what the conversation was about. By coming in and saying 'racism doesn't mean that, you are all wrong' you're both incorrect and not contributing. However you're one of the I'm assuming few people in this thread with a personal experience with racist oppression, and that's a totally valid perspective. Saying what racism is like to you is useful, interesting, and probably something we all could learn from. Saying that means nobody but you in the whole world knows what the word means is trampling the conversation and derailing it.

Dude, I respect your experiences and perspective but you've spent this whole thread trampling a totally valid lit crit thread lawyering over the meaning of the word racism, which btw by definition actually includes such concepts as discrimination, negative stereotyping.

I guess I just don't see how you can 'prove' one version of a fictional text right or wrong, or why catholicism (an organization that's had constant ideological battles over how to interpret their own texts, the declarations of antipopes, etc) would be shaken by the revelation that they've changed how they read this text here and there. If you want to call out flawed parts of the institution there are much more damning things in catholicism's history than one they acknowledge, and is shared with all other religions (and all other subjects which involve analyzing history, or a text.) It may be unfair to call you smug, I just feel like you're rejecting this out of hand with a closed-mindedness (to the history, of course, not to believing the bs) that I haven't perceived from you in other subjects. ps: you may know this already, but their preferred term for change in their belief is 'development', and you can read modern catholics stances on it all over: http://www.catholic.com/tracts/can-dogma-develop

Hey man - I don't want to come off as overcritical here, but:
do you think your game is marketable and exciting enough that if it gets in front of reviewers and players: they're going to click on ads and articles, and then click thru to your steam page, and THEN click on buy? What kind of games get your attention like that? Do you think enough buyers to make over 7000 of profit will?
It's probably best to keep marketing costs very low until you have a known game, or at least a game that can blow up and generate buzz. I don't think your game looks like either of those. Market it yourself, make a name for yourself as someone who makes fun games, get to know other devs, etc, before you start sinking money into a product that likely doesn't have the legs to make you money.

This seems to me like a silly and smug diversion. There are a lot of ways of looking at christian theology for a believer, just the same as there are lots of ways of reading or understanding any other story. Gonna use two as an example, since they're what you're discussing.
1- The garden of eden is true, because it literally happened and was transcriped as a stenographer would. Then, jesus died for the sins of man.
2- The garden of eden is true, because deploying metaphor it describes a godly unkowable reality in simple human terms. Then, jesus died for the sins of man.
Whether or not the believer is empowered to or can think on their feet enough to describe their particular understanding of the text enough to appease you when questioned hardly creates some huge gaping fallacy in their faith.

well, it also draws its political inspiration from american 80s movies, but thats a general fiction problem. i also have not really played main mgs games myself i operate from looking at some part and extensive spoilers It's honeslty super worth playing them if u care about games at all, whether you like them or not. They are a lot more interesting in context than they are spoiled or watched. V good art and 'gamefeel' too.

Do not use pixel fonts.
And imo simpler cards (plane light color, clear text) are a lot more likely to get kept and read by me, but i'm just an art freelancer so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ how it will work for you in the kind of situation you need your card

Again, I think it's reasonable to expect that this will have absolutely no positive impact. Marketing & promoting is about having press contacts/relationships, hustling hard to push trailers and press releases, keeping you on message, etc. None of those are likely to be achieves by a 'platform' like they would by an individual, and esp not one with no proven successes.
Maybe it's on the way up, and you'll get to ride that, but there's no reason to expect that. As long as you aren't giving away any money or % it's probably harmless, but don't forget to market yourself too.

i love the trashiness in mgs and trashiness in general because i am trash.
ya same just saying a lot of ppl think its dum anime garbage (instead of the reality: really good anime garbage) cause of some titty bullshit that kojima is prepared to die for. gimmy: well put, although my impression from my perspective would be that it probably has more harm than good for players (at least here in the west)

if anything i think the trashiness makes ppl who would otherwise like it (esp in the indie community) turned off to mgs.
