In regard to your desire to study game development over the year, all I have to say about that is that not all learning for computers should be done at the computer. To this day I still find books the best way to learn - however I find it hard to sit down and just read. So if you end up going on a long car journey holiday or something where you're not driving, make sure to get yourself coding book and read that. And then as soon as you get home, just take what you've learnt and put it into practice to reassure your new found skills. Really want to get comfortable 3D game development, too. Any suggestions on areas/projects to start/focus on?
Mine, and most people's, recommendation will be Unity. But I don't suggest you jump into a 3D project. Build a 2D one in Unity 3D (in terms of professionalism this isn't the best thing to do but it takes out the extra complexity from the software you're planning to use - which is really important as you're starting out with it). Once you've got the software down fine, look to the extra dimension.

Jobs / Collaborations / Programmer looking for a project (unity/c#)
|

Hey TIG. I'm looking for a programming project for this summer. I'm looking for one because I haven't yet fully defined my own game and want to see what my options are.
I'm very competent in C#, and have some good experience Unity (have been working on a year long vector program in OpenGL / C#, and spent last summer creating an artless simple game just to ensure my Unity knowledge).
I'm open to any offer. The more you can show me, or the plan you have, the more I'll be convinced.
I don't have any of my softwares online (except for some websites of mine), but I can provide 'em for you if you want.

I would just mention it, keep it all civil. Maybe he'll want to make a decision there, maybe he'll get offensive about it, just play it as it comes and think about what you say before you say it

Maybe it'd worth messaging him to give him a heads up that you both happen to be going for the same name or something?
I wouldn't worry about it, neon grey suits your game way more than it suits his.

Jobs / Collaborations / CandyJam programmer seeks artist and musician

Hey guys so following the recent events with King (of Candy Crush) and their trying to trademark the word 'Saga' (and getting in others ways at the same time) the CandyJam has been set up. I've got an idea for a game (titled "The Saga Saga"). I'll be creating it in Unity (have created games in Unity3D before) but think I'll use this opportunity to try out Unity2D (it will be a 2D game). I'm open to all art and music styles. The game itself won't be long - probably 1 level plus a boss level. Design is still open to collaboration, of course. The more satire the better (I've yet to get Apple into my design). I'll also be streaming development of the game. There is no profit in this game, nor will I try monetize it in any way.

I had an idea for a game based on the whole thing, so I came on here to see if people were talking about it and sure enough.
When's it going on? Prospectus title is The Saga Saga (steal the name it'd be appropriate)
Edit: Saw deadline when i went on the site not on my phone. Count me in

Howdy, I've decided to try this game out. I'll go for these normal matches, but what should I learn first? Are there any solid tutorials or video series for newbies?
I learnt without any tutorials, just on my journey from lvl 1 to 30, and it's probably going to be most enjoyable like that. If you know how to play to game or how it's meant to be played you're gonna get frustrated with the weird stuff that gets pulled out in the lower levels. Just try stuff out, learn any old champion that's free, you'll soon find a favourite. If thats not enough for you then watch streams on twitch.tv.

is this readable/decipherable?
hard on the eyes... first though it said 'wader' but i assume it's 'wander'. also creates some graphical glitches if you click and draw it around the grey on the side of this webpage.
