Man, if Obama wins, will our opinions still be indie enough? Shocked

:D I'd like to think so.

--Unrelated rant;

Politics( or activism, religion) and games should never be mixed unless it's a parody or satire on something imho... Mixing the two on a serious basis just tends to not be good in the long run. By the time people start doing that, we will soon see things pop up in games like those crappy movies with their nonobjective-activism propaganda. Imagine a Micheal Moore or Al Gore propaganda game. Regardless of good intentions and (half-?)truths, that's not something I'd like to see, let alone real shameless ingame propaganda. Perhaps it's inevitable eventually by the time games are being taken more seriously, perhaps not, but I really believe 'meaningful games' should mean deeper things than just brainwashing people with a certain ideology based on certain (false?) claims. I think I'm going a bit off topic now though, sorry about that.

By the way, when I'm honest, I don't think the game about the middle-east really teaches us a lot, because don't we all know what's wrong there, what went wrong and what's still going wrong??? Needless to say the conflict could have been avoided all together if it weren't for a few things that happened in the past. Obviously regardless of all that though the game is indeed fairly meaningful in a conceptual sense as was said.

Sounds like a cool job. Does this involve multiplayer?
164  Community / DevLogs / Re: puit wars - cute pixel graphics with weapons on: February 19, 2008, 02:34:50 PM
Seems rather politically incorrect... ahum, nevermind my bad jokes. It's looking cool, I love the style.  Smiley

Game of the Day 2/14/08:
#1: Cellfactor Revolution

Pure. Awesomeness. That's it.

It's not commercial?

>faints from the awesome<

Be advised, it won't be very playable without an AGEIA physX card...

I escape! But seriously, all this labeling is getting really amateurish.  Huh?

Very professional statement.  Grin

I definitely agree with both Camdag and siiseli. Smiley

Totally right, this game developing world of ours needs a lot more exaggeration in it's art or whatever you would call not going for realism.

We should totally have a thread about this. I'd love to know the significance behind some of the stranger ones on the forum.

Aye sir, but there you are assuming that there's actually some sense behind every name, or? :D

It's not so much that it was offensive, it's just that I didn't recognize either of those types among the independent developers I know, so it felt like it was talking about something that didn't exist.

I was thinking about posting a reply to someone else here about value, money and professionalism, but I soon realized that exactly what rinkuhero posted is true for me too. I don't recognize either of those types either when looking around. In fact, most amateurs and/or indies I know of have had (proper) websites way before they even had their first few finished games.

Technically hating something and being that same thing aren't mutually exclusive ...

Definitely true, but very often people hate the most what they've turned into themselves. I still remember all those fierce anti-gay speeches of that TV evangelist guy Haggard and later his confessions of having had sex with a male prostitute who also was his meth dealer. Since the guy from the article has a IT Manager background if I've understood correctly, it doesn't seem too odd to think that he either failed at what he once wanted to be ....or he just simply doesn't know what he's talking about.  Undecided

Lol, speaking of physics glitches, that game was full of it. Grin You could stack some crates, throw you weapon against it and sky-rocket the lowest crate high into the air, stuff like that.

In my opinion it didn't make it less awesome either, just a bit weird and funny at times.

so I don't get why the author is so angry at silly games with flashing geocities pages.

Perhaps he's simply frustrated because he never could get his geocities page to work? Smiley

Although at some point even "hobby companies" (amateurs? I don't know, some games are really goooood) should show sóme professionalism, there are plenty of minimalistic site with AWESOME games... so really in my opinion anything goes as long as the games are good.

Well, I had to laugh too... so uhm I wouldn't know.
173  Player / Games / Re: Card Sagas Wars on: February 11, 2008, 03:17:31 PM
I probably would commit a 'mass-offense' by asking who Carl Sagas is, so I think I rather pass that and Google some.  :D

Pixels are amateur. Polys are indie. Or is that the other way round?

:D Yeah, and those two combined makes him an amateur indie? Huh?  Shocked

No, wait that can't be right, his modeling and pixeling skills are sick!
175  Player / General / Re: What are you listening to at the moment? on: February 06, 2008, 10:11:11 AM
Yeah, Pendulum is really awesome!  Grin

Edit: I've just downloaded that free Flashbulb album, it's really really good. (And coolest thing is it has that 'Forbidden Tracks' song on it, definitely my favorite so far. )
176  Player / General / Re: Warning: U.S. Politics on: February 06, 2008, 09:31:49 AM
That's my big reason for supporting RP over Obama -- there really are only three anti-war candidates (two, now that Kucinich is out), Gravel and Paul.
Realistically, Paul has zero chance to win the Republican nomination.

I'd probably vote for Ron Paul to, either him or Obama, but that's for foreign policy reasons only as I'm not an American and obviously can not vote. I'm pretty excited to see who will win, but I think Obama won't stand a chance against Clinton and I doubt Ron Paul will win from McCain. No way that is going to happen.

I also think, but this is more a gut feeling, that America isn't ready for the first black president yet, so even if he would win from Clinton, would he be able to win from McCain? (technically Obama isn't looking very 'black' to me, I know Spanish people with more color, but he has this whole image of a 'black' person running for president).
177  Developer / Art / Re: Flashbang needs your feedback! on: February 06, 2008, 08:54:25 AM
The top-right one definitely has the image in the correct place, the others are either to low or not well centered. I think you should go easy on texts on T-shirts, but the top left isn't bad either. (The one deadline made looks also very good to me)
I definitely agree on the pipe, it's a tad too big, but it isn't disturbing me thát much.
178  Player / Games / Re: "What Indie Games Can Learn From Little Miss Sunshine" on: February 06, 2008, 08:05:09 AM
I think the actual attitude towards Indie games is still pretty mellow, but on the other hand a lot of people seem to fear what they aren't familiar with so yeah there's hesitation from the big public and off course some indie games aren't exactly suited for the mass market anyways.

The big media have only very recently showed some more interest in the indie side of game developing, so perhaps the attitude will change a lot more in the not so distant future?
179  Player / Games / Re: You are a bunch of FREAKING AMATEURS on: February 06, 2008, 07:55:07 AM
Lol, one of those frustrated and lonely IT managers again or what? Wink He tried really hard to label everything indeed, which is exactly where he fails. A shame because he's really spreading some misinformation there.  Tongue Roll Eyes

"Indies try to create buzz by launching a Flash-based website with game media releases; Amateurs try to create buzz by launching a Geocities site with lots of flashing blink tags"

That's só 1998-ish.... everybody knows you should go with Freewebs instead now. Wink  :D
180  Developer / Design / Re: 10 Principles For Good Design on: February 04, 2008, 05:31:19 PM
• Good design is as little design as possible.

This is actually a pretty interesting point, but I wonder how that would translate to actual games (or game designs)? I guess I do not really understand what's meant with it.
