In a way you can if you have a damage over time on you (I know I have killed myself like that before u.u) but that's not the point.

Hm I don't see the point of sacrificing a character for another (at least in an RPG scenario) unless the power difference between them would justify keeping an extremely powerful character alive over a weaker one. But I can't imagine designing characters to have that much of a power gap

In League of Legends, the champion Soraka does exactly that. She can heal allies really fast but it takes a decent chunk of her hp. She then has an ability that heals herself if she hits enemies with it, so there's this gameplay mechanic of having to hit enemies in order to heal allies and survive

This looks familiar...

Anyway, the art looks sick! Can't wait to see more. But why does the screenshots look blurry? Even the ones on moddb look like they were resized

Fanon canon confirm by the dev itself
Plot twist, they were humans all along. So all this time you thought you were just killing robots... yeah

I love Copy Girl's idol animation where she moves her visor. Is Copy Girl an android? Wearing an Iron Man type machine suit?

The truth is out there

Well it's like... story-wise everything are robots, but I don't really care to make them look or act like robots

Music based enemy with octopus themes.

How about "Octave"?
You... are... hired!

Disclaimer: you're not actually hired

Holy shit. Now THAT is a fucking boss fight. Man that got me so pumped.

Question + small concern however. Are you guys adopting a similar life + continue system similar to Mega Man? These stages seem rather intense, and having to restart the stage may be really frustrating. Just a thought.

We have a pretty forgiving checkpoint system with infinite lives and continues. It's all about short challenges and not about mastering the entire stage

When 'Relativity' changed its name to 'Manifold Garden' i had the impression that 'Copy Girl' sounds like a working title, too. Do (or did) you plan to change the name? Or did you decide to stick with it?

In my opinion, you don't need to convey the Megaman "copy" inspiration in the title AND the slogan. You put in many great own ideas, it's clearly more than a simple copy. Everybody will immediately get the Megaman inspiration seeing the graphics, anyway.

The name Copy comes from her "copying" of the bosses weapons. I chose the name basically on the day I thought of making this game, and for a long time we considered it a working title, but we realized we'd never be able to go with a different name

The slogan is just there to give a little description that fits in the title box of the forum. I found these usually make me more interested on checking a devlog, instead of just having a title

Weapon Design Overview - Penta Pearl

Our next weapon is the water-themed Penta Pearl

It creates a shield of 5 pearls around you, each doing damage to enemies on contact.

By default this weapon isn’t too effective. It has a low range and will only really get rid of the weaker enemies

But wait! This weapon has a secondary effect. Press the fire button one more time and…

It expands and reaches high rotation speeds, damaging everything around you. The main strength of this weapon is reaching targets above and below

This increased range only lasts a second, so you have to time it well

Remember our list from before? Let’s see how this weapon fares

- Must fill a role that no other weapon does

You can hit enemies directly below and above you, something no other weapon does. It is also the only weapon that goes through walls

- Must have a unique purpose

It has a short range, and a second activation mode. Each pearl can hit enemies 3 times, so it thins out as you hit stuff

- Must not fall under the “dominant strategy” category

Enemies with invulnerable parts will wear out your pearls, while you deal no damage. This weapon also doesn’t deal as much damage as others. it’s power lies in it’s other properties

- The boss you get this weapon from will use it against you

Keep your distance while this weapon is active!

This is a good opportunity to mention another weapon that existed in the early stages of development. It was called 4-Sided Beam, and it would hit enemies in 4 directions near you

Didn’t take long for us to notice it was kinda redundant… Remember the first item on our list?
