kitheif, that looks lovely. I like your choice of colors. Bass-Windu, those two birds looks like they would be gossiping about that armored dude just loud enough for him to hear. They look mischievous like that. Drew a hut a while ago and finally got around to putting in the game.

Hut, hut, hike! You can now upgrade your campsite to a hut given you have enough building materials and a skill ( construction) to do so. Huts keep you relatively safe during winters and enable quicker rest. Huts are permanent so you can always return to one if you wish on your travels. Without such a structure your first winter will most likely be your last but I'm considering other saving options too. Because, you know, not everyone knows how to build a shack this fine.

Having a database store all the dropped items in the world would not be too massive I think, even with millions of entries. Databases and queries are super fast and compact these days. The server would only have to send nearby items anyway. You could also also store, I don't know, daily/hourly diffs so the server would only go through certain datasets if it's a returning client.

Today I worked on the symbols and displaying / defnining them. In this screenshot I came across a Guardian Eye which is an indicator of a nearby temple. When examining the statue I discovered a new symbol and it appeared in my journal. For now the symbol displayed on the statue is always the direction to the temple. Later on it might show some other relevant information to solving a puzzle. So I travelled in all 4 directions and reached a temple when heading west. So I concluded it must mean "To west" or "Western direction" and updated the journal with that new information. Next time when examining another Guardian Eye with the same symbol its meaning will be displayed instead of the question mark. This sort of deduction and educated guesswork will be the basis. I might add auto-suggestions of some sorts to ease this. Here are most of the symbols I've drawn for now. Some are pretty funky, some not so much.

I made a text-game once. It got a bit of coverage, so yeah, there's still a market for these things if you spice them up a little. Although I admit it's a novelty and not really a long-lasting experience since only a few people play it these days. But there are many directions you could take this if you're willing to be silly. Like.. Text-based aerial combat / flight simText-based racing gameText-based RTS (I did that but it wasn't too much fun) Text-based platformerText-based online fighting gameText-based beat'em'upText-based tower defenceText-based 4Xetc. I even have an game engine for it if you want: http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=42377

For some reason the game keeps binging at me constantly at a steady interval. You know, that sound when you change system volume in Win 7. Rather annoying. Oh, and when I turn up the volume I hear the music, I guess that's what it is, glitching on a very short loop in the background.

Trying to animate a fire. It needs a few more frames or maybe using the existing frames in a different order to make it longer, the loop less noticable.

I've written to mods asking this to be stickied. I hope it happens before the year is over but we can always extend the deadline. Not that I've specified a date and I guess I won't, for now.
