Chrono Trigger, Disgaea, FF6 + FF8
I get how a lot of people think FF7 is overrated, and while I personally love it, I would never put it on a best of RPG list. I agree with FF6, though. What puzzles me is you mentioning FF8. I've only just started it, but am bored because it's just spamming summons over and over. My PSP keeps dimming the screen due to watching summons for 75% of the gameplay. What's so great about FF8?

Halloween sucks anymore. And not just because I'm in my twenties now. My area keeps bumping the curfew up every year, and now kids can't even trick or treat past eight o' clock. Eight. I feel sorry for this generation, as they'll have no idea how fun Halloween used to be.

And the games with a play online link will work on an Iphone! Although the command line is so close to the bottom of the screen that I've accidentally pushed back on the browser, losing my place. But the games have otherwise been really cool!
My favorite so far has been PataNoir. It's a Noir setting with a twist, in that your character hasn't taken his pills, and as a result can interact with the figurative as well as the literal objects in the room. It has to be played to be believed.

However, the gradual unlocking of content severely undermines the replayability aspect of the random generation. If you're gonna make a game about replayability, it's absolutely counterproductive to then proceed to lock most of its content.
I hadn't thought of that before, seeing as I've unlocked so little of it to this point. If a real roguelike I had played pulled that kind of stunt, I'd be a bit disappointed.

This game has been closing itself on me if I alt+tab away for more than 30 seconds. That's got to be the worst piece of design here. Which is a shame, because I do like it, wonky projectiles and all.
When I'm in the mindset that this is an arcade game, those little niggles don't bother me, but when I can't alt+tab out to chat on IRC I have to draw the line.
I'm.....going to play some Spelunky to clear my mind.

I play SNES games on my hacked PSP.
I actually do this as well on my PSPGo. Don't laugh, the large internal storage makes a hacked PSPGo my go to for gaming, even over my new 3DS. But when it comes to the games I own, I can't help but want to play it off the original cartridge. Besides, it's the only way to get a decent multiplayer game of Kirby Super Star going (This will never run on a PSP, and that wouldn't be multiplayer anyway.) But if I go with allen's idea, MAME will be an option. I'm going to stick "emulation box" idea in the back of my head, but in the meantime I'll softmod my Wii, because I should really do that anyway. As long as I have enough gamepads/classic controllers. Whether or not I'll buy someone else's SNES, or sell off my cartridges is going to be a tough decision I won't make for a while. The console clone idea is out, anyway. Thanks for all the suggestions!

The FC3 Plus controllers are definitely a deal breaker for me. Having the buttons on SNES backwards alone would drive me mad.
It's good to see that there's potential in these console clones at least.

Hi Tigsource. Longtime lurker, infrequent poster here. So hurricane Irene claimed both my Snes and Dreamcast. I've already worked out a trade situation with a friend for his dreamcast + vmu's but that still leaves the SNES. I just wanted to ask if anyone's ever messed with the 3 consoles in one Retron 3.I've never owned a Genesis, and my NES is a constant struggle with the blinking grey screen, so this is sort of attractive to me. Anyone know if this thing is worth my time? Or should I just order a new SNES?

After seeing Battles mentioned, I had to put on Atlas. Hearing it for the first time quite a while ago was quite the WTF moment, but I quickly grew into loving Mirrored.
Been listening to a lot of Cake and Johnny Cash lately, I'm just a sucker for both of their lyrics. And Cake has a fairly unique sound.

Meeting teachers outside of school. Who knew that they had lives outside of teaching?
This happened lately while I was grocery shopping. She was one of the nicest teachers I've ever had, but I couldn't remember who she was! She remembered me of course, and even came in for a hug. "Oh, hey.....you. Long time no see(?)"

The "turret" section in act 4-1 is frustrating me to no end.
Garcia repeating the same dick joke every 3 seconds doesn't help either, especially not after 5 failed attempts.
I like the rest of the game too much to give up, but damn.
Are there any other instant death segments beyond this one? please say no

Currently playing Lemmingball Z (first time it's ever worked on any PC I've owned,) Just Cause 2, Shadows of the Damned, and if I can get back to it, The Witcher.
Had to pick up Just Cause 2, as Gamersgate had it available for $5 over the weekend.
Just out of the dungeon in chapter 2 of the Witcher, but haven't played it for a week. Gotta finish SotD before my free time opens up enough.

Hello. Yougiedeggs here. I remember becoming jaded with commercial games not too long after playing Oblivion. Then I happened to find Tigsource by accident, which opened my world up to a whole new side of gaming I quickly fell in love with. That was about 3 years ago, and I've been following TIGS since. My favorites have been Cave Story, Dwarf Fortress, Spelunky, other roguelikes, and anything by Ikiki, cactus, Messhoff, or Konjak, (still hoping he'll continue on Iconoclasts.)

Kinda like a casual RTS mixed with Lemmings.
Seconded. If the lemmings did everything they could to kill all the other lemmings, that is.

Did you give Dungeon Monkey Unlimited a try? It's pretty much exactly what you described.
Peleron's Brilliant Rebirth is another party based roguelike, but I don't know how customizable it is, as I've never gotten it to run on my Vista 64 bit machine.
