YAY!
NAYBE SONEDAY!
I finally got to the end. I like that third level (the one without the door at the top); really forced me to master the diagonal long jump.

I think that if the bunnies didn't talk, the bunny level would be the only tutorial one would need. Just a nice, peaceful world to play around in. I like the Wii. I have the benefit of adopting much, much later than most people, so I can be picky about the things I purchase. The disappointment factor is much lower that way, and I don't have to put up with weird, shitty abuses of the Wiimote. Still, one of my favorite games I have played is SUPER BUNGEE BUDDIES. CAKE!

Actually, let's turn this into a "why games suck these days" thread, shall we? :D
Oh, that wasn't my intent. I started this thread because I spent my whole morning feeding star bits to apparently latex-clad stars (aside: I wish my food looked like miniature versions of me), and I really enjoyed myself. I think that teaching the player how to play your game is a challenging thing, and I sometimes wish that Mario games relied more on environmental clues. The first little planet where you get to run around with the bunnies is great. I had given the game to a friend to play and he was figuring things out while we were talking. Being that we were having one of those conversations about the Kindle, he didn't have time to read any text and was just skipping it. It's a testament to the game that it remains fun while the player blithely ignores everything he is being told. More bunny planets, please.

I'm a big fan of Daniel Johnston, but making an iPhone game with his stuff? I don't know..
I would play a game based in Daniel Johnston's proposed Mountain Dew commercials. It would basically be like Geist.

I do expect a certain degree of camera silliness when playing a third-person 3D thing. Unless it's God Hand.
Which doesn't forgive camera silliness.
Actually, tutorial-style explanations of game mechanics bug me more than camera issues. It is a regrettable feature in most contemporary games. It makes me not want to talk to most of the little Crest mascots in the game, because I am afraid they will tell me something like, "Did you know you can SHAKE THE WIIMOTE to SPIN???"
I thought Messhof did a funny song on that theme with YOU FOUND THE GRAPPLING HOOK. "Near the beginning, there is a rock. You can jump over it with 'x.'"

But I can't stop playing Super Mario Galaxy, even with all the "WAHOOOOO."

[...]Edmund needs to do a remake or something of "The Maxx"
Jesus I loved that comic/show.
I would like a giggling rendition of the whole "my mom totally killed my cat" monologue.

As for the enemies, I'm hoping to have different artistic styles for some of the levels, with enemies that match the personality of the dreamer. So there might be some cute ones in some levels, and some hideous ones in others, to maintain the theme that each dreamworld matches the personality of the entity dreaming it.
I love this idea, because I think you'll get some really good level variation out of it (rather than, "oh, the snow world! the jungle world!" which - don't get me wrong - I also enjoy). I do think it will be a challenge to keep the game looking consistent with different styles coming and going, but that might just be me revealing a desire to see a cute-em-up Yog-Sothoth sprite.

Pop'n'Twinbee
Hooray! I like Wibblin. I'm getting kind of a Coryoon vibe from him. Are your enemies going to be cute-em-up types, too? At first I thought about The Guardian Legend when I read "branching level paths" and I was thinking "aiee!" First games are exciting!

Oh, I should have put something about how I liked the time crunch, and how it was productive for me.
Who else is in right now? I have a prototype up and running, so I am kind of excited. I've never done anything on a theme before.
The working title for my project is MAGIC PLANET SNACK.

Shin Megami Tensei 1 and 2. Although it's actually chaos/order instead of good/evil. But that's a lot more interesting dichotomy. In good part because neither option is morally wrong, so it just boils down to what you think should happen, in part because they are less subjective terms and because absolute chaos/order are less ridiculous ideas than absolute good/evil.
I'm playing Devil Survivor right now; I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Even though it has The World Ends With You -style monologues disguised as conversation. I liked The World Ends With You, too, I just have a hard time with most RPG between-character cutscenes.
