There's someone out there that really liked Umineko? It's the most infuriatingly shitty anime series I have seen. Read the Bokurano manga and skip the anime.
Also: Kaiba, Casshern Sins, Princess Tutu, Lain, SaiKano, Now and Then, Here and There, Gunslinger Girl, Kino no Tabi

Gargantia is okay. Just okay. Nothing surprising ever really happens, but it doesn't have that everything-falls-fantastically-into-place thing going either. There's nothing particularly interesting about the characters, and the themes it's playing with aren't exactly challenging. The setting is interesting though, and the art style is nice, and it's not offensive at all (unless you find the near-naked teenage girls dancing thing as offensive, I guess). It's not bad, but it's not really that good either. I was expecting a great deal more.

What shows did you try and watch this season? I'm not finding 'moe' to be the main problem with them - most of them are pretty bad in other ways though.

Been catching up on the season.
Valvrave sure is awful. Devil Survivor is quite disappointing too - why such bland characters?
Enjoying Hataraku, SnK, Gargantia, and Red Data Girl. Majestic Prince is okay, I guess.

I'm not sure how it progressed, but everyone used to call Attack on Titan 'medieval Gantz' (presumably referring to when Gantz was good). It's not creepy - but superviolent in a horrifying sort of way.

Developer / Design / Re: Where does inspiration come from?

I suspect inspiration and motivation are only relevant once - at the beginning. And again when you fail and have to restart (which ideally shouldn't happen), but otherwise it's all about momentum and inertia - to keep making it just because you're making it, and not because you're inspired or motivated on any given day. Inspiration is too fickle to rely on to actually finish anything.
Unfortunately, I haven't gotten this suspicion into a working system of getting things done yet.

<stuff> Accel World <more stuff>
If you liked Accel World, you should consider trying Sword Art Online; both are based on light novels by the same author, and SAO is generally considered the better series. By who? I liked Accel World and thought SAO was shit.

"... so?"
I don't see any problem with playing all day so long as you're not being a burden on society.
Or I guess if you want people to think you're a hard working person you can stop telling them that you're making games and tell them that you're programming. Programming == work in the minds of most people, I think.

I just finished watching Noir. Good show - god-tier soundtrack. The middle was a bit repetitive, with the solution to every single problem being 'keep shooting it until it's dead', but overall very satisfying.

Kamichu! is really great. Lots of social commentary and insight in such an innocuous looking show. I might have said this before, but I think it's a show that could give you a real insight into Japanese culture and society.

Season 2 of Kaiji is killing me. The first game was good, but this pachinko shit is going on forever and no one has actually done anything significant or clever for several episodes.

Developer / Business / Re: How do I market a consulting service?
|

Well, I guess you'd market either by networking with game developers or advertising on developer websites like gamasutra. Post insightful things on gamedev.net with a link in your signature, or such?
But I suspect that there isn't a market for what you're selling. Or perhaps there is, but it's already filled by industry professionals who have been designing games professionally for thirty years or whatever. The idea of consulting is that you're selling your deep and profound experience in something that the other person doesn't have, yeah?
In any case, your pricing is nuts. Not that it's necessarily too high for 8 hours of work, but why on earth are you only selling in 8 hour intervals? Who wants to buy a block of 8 hours? If it were 8 hours spread out over the life of the project that might make more sense. But why 8 hours? Paying for a critique the game/certain systems would be much more cost-effective and useful.

I'm not sure what the advantage is, or even that it's doing anything significantly different.
Reinventing the forum is an interesting idea (although 90s style forums are perfectly functional as-is), but this doesn't look like a reinvention - just the same basic thing but now you can 'like' things.

I was tricked! I thought this was going to be a musical about girls driving tanks. It's not, and apparently it'd very bad. Who told you it's bad? It was one of the most popular and highest selling shows last season. "Top selling" =/= good My local otaku told me it wasn't what I thought it was. Of course top selling isn't the same as good, but when a low-budget unknown show made by no one special comes out of nowhere and dominates the season charts I think it's worth paying more attention to than normal rather than writing it off as apparently bad. But, well, no - it's not what you thought it was. An anime musical is a bit of an unrealistic thought though, you must admit.

I bought some nutella the other day after having a sudden craving. It's quite nice, but I'm enjoying the apricot jam I bought during the same whim more.
I was really quite surprised to find that they have Nutella in Japan though. There's no fucking beetroot, but there's Nutella?

I really hope that Vividred Operation is going to do something else soon. I'm sure it's being ironically cliche, but it's starting to shit me. I find the arse-shots and underwear-school-uniform a bit creepy (I realise they're wearing underwear under their underwear, but it doesn't feel right to call them 'shorts'). Fanservice doesn't usually feel creepy to me - just lame - but there's something unsettling about a school that has their female students walking around like that.
They tell me things will drastically change around episode 5, so I'll hang around that long, I guess. The sword fight last episode was pretty cool.
