Nice style and unique animations! That laser mechanic will make for some fun puzzles I'm sure, great stuff.

New Animations

When clearing a lot of pieces from the board, I felt the current animation was a bit heavy and tends to make the process a bit tedious. Here it is below.

I wanted something a bit quicker, something that flows better and isn't distracting. To me it seemed like a cool idea to have the piece consumed with fire. So I painted this image sequence of a consuming flame (slowed down).

I took this animation into After Effects to composite a final effect. Here it is consuming a rook!

Chesster for Mac

In other news we are also developing Chesster for Mac! So yay!

That's all for now!

Been working on menu design.

Puzzle Screen

There are eight rows of puzzles to solve and there are eight levels to play. Sooooo, each level will unlock a row of eight puzzles! Here's the puzzle board with all rows locked except the first one. Gold stars will mark solved puzzles.

Treasure collection

Players will come here to keep track of captured treasure and see which collection it fits into. I still need to fit one more treasure collection in here, just not sure on the layout just yet...

24  Community / DevLogs / Chesster: Match 3 Adventure tonight on Mobcrush! on: December 14, 2013, 09:22:26 PM

Available on Steam and iOS March 17th!

Chesster is a new match 3 game, but it's not some mindless swapper! Built from the ground up, Chesster is a game that features levels that will actually challenge you, vibrant visuals, gorgeous music and mechanics that add innovation to the genre!

*FEATURES*

Chesster is still a match 3 at its core, but I've changed things up a bit to keep things new:

*Piece Movement- Chesster is match 3 meets chess! Each piece moves like its counterpart in chess, so while a king can move one space in any direction, a queen can move the WHOLE board in any direction!

*More Moves- Each turn allows for 3 moves before points are totaled, this lets the player have a lot of control in setting up combos, which are absolutely necessary as the game progresses.

*Advanced Combos- Combining a queen in special layouts on the grid results in bonus points and adds even more strategy.

*Treasure Hunt- For you completionists, there's the additional challenge of collecting treasure from around the castle grounds, but it might be one of the hardest parts of the game.

*Gorgeously rendered level environments, take a look!

*Chesster has music that will take you back in time and even features live recorded instruments. Over the top for a puzzle game maybe, but it only enhances the experience. Check out the soundtrack here!

Chesster OST

PUZZLE AND CHALLENGE MODE
In puzzle mode, you have to clear all specified pieces with a limited number of moves. Here's an easy one! Can you clear them all with 1 move?

While in challenge mode, you have a goal to achieve with limited turns.

Noyb:

Thank you for the time you put into both playing the game and responding here. Your critique is informative and clear!

The confusion about multiple moves seems to be the big one for us right now so we are working on making this a lot more obvious.

Great comments about the special combos and unlocking multiple puzzles.

eigenbom:

If you have time to play the first level and some puzzles, I'd love some feedback. Thanks for the comment though!

Hi guys,

Letting everyone know about the alpha demo for my game Chesster. Been working on this for a while during spare time at night. It's nowhere near final yet but its time to let everyone look n' see!

Here's a gameplay video:

Some level art.

You can find a download link from the blog: ALPHA DEMO

Let me know your thoughts, good and bad, but mainly how easy it is to jump into. A lot of people think "match 3" and begin playing with assumptions that get them stuck, but ultimately, that's unclear design.

Nonetheless, I think its pretty fun and challenging, hope you do as well.

28  Jobs / Portfolios / I'll make that trailer! on: April 23, 2013, 07:23:05 PM
Greetings,

If you're needing a trailer for that game of yours, I'd be happy to offer my services!

I work in the field of motion graphics, compositing 2d and 3d animation. Creating trailers is a fun change of pace. I also like the challenge of narrative in such a short time (whatever it may be).

Here's a trailer I did up for Zelda: A Link to the Past. Something simple like this I could do for about $50!

Here's something I did for my own game. This would be more expensive.

I don't do music, just the graphics and editing.

Well there it is,

BMT Micro and Fastspring look like excellent ways for doing this on a game site. However, I was thinking of a more encompassing solution, something that would be a catch all from all stores and portals.

Doing a bit more digging, paypal actually makes this pretty easy as long as your members also have a paypal account. Profits can go into a "game" or "developer" account from which paypal lets you split the total into any number of other paypal accounts each month.

See this for more. The "developer" account does have to be a business account and they take up to $1 for payments within the US and $20 for payments made outside the US.

Chesster is my puzzle game in development. It's match 3 meets chess.

Anyway I've recently finished some level art and Kevon (the composer) has finished the theme song. Check it out!

This is the library, level 7 out of 8 total in the game. Currently working on level 8

Theme Music over on indieDB.

Thanks!

What is the best way some of you have found to share profits with your development team? For example, a game makes $1000 USD and you want to split the profit 50/50 between you and your other teammate. Is there a way to do this though paypal? Can online stores do this?

Thanks everyone.

I think it's a great way for Valve to take the pulse of the community. However, there could be a few problems like votedown trolls or over crowding.

Still exciting though!

What I've heard helps is getting some positive reviews on your game. Be it a metacritic approved site or popular designer/developer.

You might consider releasing it on Desura first and get that community's input and go from there.

Good luck!

Hello.

*raises pipe to mouth, takes a puff*

My name is Sean Kaaaahhhh *COUGH COUGH WHEEEEEZEEEE*...*HACK HACK COUGH*

Ehem.. *eyes water*

My name is Sean Kiley. I am a designer and animator for television motion graphics. But my heart has always been in video games.

*closes large book on lap*

You see, I have been lucky enough be to born into a world where video games have always been a reality. My first game took me 9 months to beat. It was a "find the exit" game. After that I was born. But my first REAL game was Frogger. I was the popular kid on the block for having this sucker in the house!

Well I know a lot of you kids have the ADD so I'll wrap it up with these comments.

FF6 is the best FF. Fact.
Some of the best games are not "video".
We are in the beginnings of a game renaissance.
Make games YOU want.

Good evening.
