No, not yet, though there will be shooter mechanics, inventory, useable items / environment. Gonna get the engine + content up and running and then start to get a feel for what's fun.

I'm getting the feeling that Roguelikemashup is the new beaten dead horse of gaming right now. I personally like the genre. I guess I was curious if people would push back on the idea as too played out. But frankly a random beat em up with rpg elements sounds kind of fun to me. Just wish I had art skills Sad

By the way, are you doing the pixeling for Witch Princess? Very very nice!

I think you're on to something there... there's going to be RULES, and GOALS...

I'm going to make something.

I don't know what it is. I've made stuff in the past (http://newobj.tumblr.com/games), and I guess I'm good at AI, networking, game systems/simulations, emergent behavior, etc. Graphics programming, not so much. Graphics content, definitely not so much.

I think I want to make a Roguelike meets (River City Ransom/Double Dragon) type mashup. But I don't know, there are a lot of Roguelike meets ... mashups these days.

I don't know.

What should I make? Roll Eyes

30  Jobs / Collaborations / Developer (former pro) looking for creative partner on: August 12, 2013, 07:50:01 AM
 Gentleman

Hi, I'm Brian. I'm a developer who left the game industry 9-10 years ago. I found game development to be much more fun as a hobby rather than a job. You can see my output here: http://newobj.tumblr.com/games -- probably my claim to fame was doing the AI for No One Lives Forever. These days I work on backendy/server-side things. I've done mobile too. So I've got a pretty good range of experience and I know how to build a full stack, game client, server, web, mobile side, all that jazz, whatever is required. I've worked on MMO's, done AI, networking, game systems, yada yada.

I have no artistic abilities and frankly I'm not a very good game designer either. So I'm looking for a creative partner. I'm not looking to make money or anything. I simply want to undertake a fun creative endeavor and try to build something that people may like. Something my son might like to play one day. I'm looking for a partner because frankly two heads are better than one, and I find the odds of a project finishing go up when you can get a second person to maintain momentum when you go through lulls yourself.

Right now I don't have any particular kinds of games in mind. I like innovative games, or more traditional games that are seriously polished (Rogue Legacy being something recent that comes to mind.) I'd prefer to work in 2d, as I think it just simplifies a lot of things. But that's all up for debate. If you can only do digital painting, that would work because we might be able to do a strategy game or something. Pixel art, awesome. If you can only model, that might be okay, because we could do something with a flat/minimal/procedural look. Just please have more skills than merely having game ideas. I do need someone that can produce content.

I just want to have fun and create something, care to join me? Msg me here or at newobj AT gmail.com

tl;dr: Seasoned developer seeks creative partner for low commitment hobby gamedev collaboration.

Any interest in porting it to XBLIG? (I'd rather play it on an Xbox, personally...)

Howdy,

Sorry if this not the right forum for such a post... mod me if not, and apologies in advance.

I'm a solo spare-time developer seeking a creative (design + art) partner to collaborate on game projects. I'm especially interested in browser based MMO's, like Domain of Heroes, Kingdom of Loathing, etc (not so much Mafia Wars and the like...)

I'm a good developer but have zero art skills and not the best game designer. I'm tired of being limited by a deficit of these skills, so I'm looking for a partner, perhaps someone on the flip side of this coin: good art and design skills, but without the technical capacity to put their ideas in motion.

About me: I spent about 6 years working in the triple-A PC game industry, largely doing AI for first person shooters. Good times but not the kind of games I like to play, or therefore, make. After that I switched gears and worked on the web/ecommerce for about 4 year at Amazon. So I definitely have a good mix of the game+web development background you'll need for a browser-based online game. I largely work in Java, Ruby, C++, and JavaScript.

I'm looking for someone who can get involved in game design, writing, and most imporantly, artwork. Preferably strong with concept art and illustration since a browser based MMOG will feature mostly static images.

This is kind of "blind date" request for collaboration, but my friends who fit the bill do this stuff for more-than-full-time, and so they have no cycles left over at night to join me. I'm tired of being hampered by having no art, and of course, two people motivating each other work a lot better than one person.

If you're interested, drop me a message at newobj at gmail.com and let's chat casually...

Thanks,
Brian
