- Short game, from a few years back
- Black and white (1-bit, I guess?), pixels, tiny resolution
- Start as a pixel or a square
- Gain new abilities and change shape as you collect pixels or something
- At the end you're some kind of dragon or gargoyle and you breathe fire ?

Thanks!

edit: Maybe it was gameboy-tones instead of black and white?

Move to Finished or Feedback?

Like the idea though.

Looks cool, but The Room might be a bit misleading as a title, as it's also the name of a very popular horror myst-like on iOS...

I can answer the color vs b&w question for you...

black and white is faster.

Exactly! Plus it kinda makes sense in our gameplay... More on that later.

Thanks for the ideas guys. We'll probably end up having some color in the game, I've been working on a super limited palette and it might just work!

Having no time to keep doing those at the moment, I instead launched a blog with a very similar goal - check out GameSquares!

I'll be covering games from TigSource mostly, but also IndieDB, Tumblr, Twitter, and a variety of sources. Hope you guys enjoy it, and I hope it grows enough to give your devlog games more visibility. Cheers!

What tech are you using? When you have a big set of sprites like that do you map it out as a texture atlas? Using anything to speed that up or do you have to select each sprite and mark them out?

What about animations? Particularly for the animals..

We're working on all that! So many options.

Over the week-end we released Museum of Parallel Art, an experiment for 2 players! Grab a friend, a loved one, your grandmother, a stranger, and play our simple game about conversation and perception! (•⊙ω⊙•)

Blink Blink PLAY HERE! Blink Blink

I recommend using a controller for better controls, and if you'd like to play with Mouse and Keyboard make sure to go full screen by right clicking in the game.

Have fun!

Trailer

Visiting the virtual Museum of Parallel Art is a very special experience you'll share with someone. You'll express your thoughts and feelings towards art with cards, or try to view the world as your peer and guess the cards he or she has played. Comparing cards will prompt conversation and is sure to connect you two.

This game was originally made in 48 hours by Neverpants (Dom2D, technobeanie & seventysevian), featuring art both classic and new, with contributions by many amazing artists like Anthony Clark, Justin Chan, Nic ter Horst, Tom Eccles, Aliceffekt and way more! Randomly generated from a database of over 200 "paintings" and a multitude of cards, the Museum of Parallel Art is different every time you visit.

Contributing artists: 0x0961h, Alec Faulkner, Anthony Clark, Ben Weatherall, Boum, Cab, Caitlin Peters, Cale Bradbury, Chris Cox, Cristian Ortiz, Devine Lu Linvega, Dom2D, Emi Spicer, EnemySpeak, Eric Angelillo, Ewan Brock, Fellipe Martins, Foletto, Gabriel Verdo,n Garrett Medina, Hanne Maes, Ian Girard, Imploding Oracle, Jackie Williams, James McDonald, Jank Hambrams, Jessica Mao, Johan Vinet, John Ariosa, Jon Kristinsson, Josh Grill, Josh PM, Justin Chan, Kent Sheely, Korigame, Lady Noremon, LazyShapes, LizDrake, Loren Bednar, Lorenzo Maierù, Maike Vierkant, Mike Horowitz, Myriame Lachapelle, Nathan Galbraith, Nic ter Horst, Noreen Rana, Northway Games, Ray Chen, Rekka Bellum, Renee P., Richy486, Rob Chandler, Rodrigo Lira, Scott Gamble, Shaylene Brooks, SolarVagrant, Sven Bergstrom, Taylor Anderson, Toby Allen, Tom Eccles, Trudi Castle, Yan Ben Alluch

Museum of Parallel Art will soon be available to play for free! We're still fixing a few things - controller issues, lighting fixes, adding more art pieces... But soon!

You guys and gals are all amazing. I wanna play all these games.

Thanks for the comments everyone. We are going for a nostalgic, melancholy feeling in this game's world, so we're probably going to go for something a little less saturation, and I'm still wondering if the little bit of sepia tone would help with the nostalgia feeling.

Anyway. We spent a bit of time yesterday wondering about layering and z-ordering for the top down, 2D graphics. We started thinking about complex stuff like bridges the player could go under and over, and it gave us quite a headache! We really hope to find a good solution to be able to create the world with total freedom, rapidly, without hacks.

And here's another doodle. I kinda botched it with the grey copic though.

And one more, just for kicks. I do these for fun late at night.
