I'm sure this game will be a huge indie success. Very cool execution.

You might need some feedback when the player manages to fulfill the bonus requirements. This'll make it cleared and encourage the player to get those every time.

Just messing around:

Yeah that'd be great, I'll look into that!

New island layout.

Warning: bad english, it's friday, I'm tired.

I played a bunch with a friend in coop. It's great fun for lots of reason but its flaws appear when the initial wow factor fades out. It gave me the same feeling I had with Diablo; I kept being excited about the loot and the skills, but I kept wondering "why am I doing this again?" as the game gets into a cycle of kill/upgrade/kill. The new weapons and equipment aren't that exciting after a while. There's very little variety in the enemies and their spawn zones, too. The world itself is gorgeous, but like in most MMOs you spend so much time in a zone that you get tired of it after a while.

The thing is, despite the hidden flaws, I'll keep playing it with that friend, simply because the game works well in coop. A few mechanics create interactions between us, plus we talk and shout and laugh as we kill a bunch of Skags or ride around in the car blasting bandits with the rocket launcher. It nears Left4Dead in creating lots of fun to be had between players. The loot and the quests are just motivation to keep us having fun.

I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone who plans on playing alone; then it can be a lame FPS. I don't think you'll get the excitement of the Single player of Call of Duty 4 or Valve games in Borderlands.

Since I've started working on Move Out of Skull Island again, it's slowing Anything Beats Everything down a bit. But I'm still practicing my Actionscript every night or so, and the code for the game is starting to look like something I can do. I wouldn't get my hopes up for a 2009 release though ...  Concerned But Skull Island should be worth the wait.

I'll be watching this.

It's not indie, but it's not a AAA title either: Try Sniper Elite. It's really hardcore, hide, sneak, take your time (forever) to kill a bunch of dudes, keep your calm, find good nests, etc.
It has flaws but it's the closest I've been to a cool sniper experience.

Oh and it's got a bullet cam.

Not sure, but I think it'd be cool to have a background.  Kiss

What level do you want?
470  Community / DevLogs / Re: Anything Beats Everything on: October 29, 2009, 08:58:16 PM
A medium one:

I am fighting the urge to just show you all the levels I have made so far. I'm at about 30 levels for now, I'm aiming for... a LOT more.

I'll try to limit myself to posting only one level per week or something.

Circuit Soup is pretty original! I like it!

The game plays great except one thing: the three-tile long jump. The engine is not efficient enough to time the jumps perfectly enough to get to three tiles away every time, no matter how careful you are. On high-end machines maybe, but on low-end machines I believe it'll be frustrating.

Other than that I enjoyed it a lot, it's cool to see the next level in the background.

Wow looks amazing. Shocked
Is this going to be a game anytime soon?

I enjoy drawing maps.

I enjoy looking at them. I wish I could explore the colored one Smiley

Noooo to the graphics. I think it looks charming.
Yes to the AI though, the game is really haaaard. I had to put all my ninja skills in completing the levels!  Ninja
476  Player / General / Re: Torchlight - shameless Diablo ripoff by Diablo devs on: October 29, 2009, 09:24:50 AM

I don't see anybody 'bashing' Torchlight here. They're all giving honest commentaries on their experiences with the game. Don't be so defensive, makes you look like a fanboy.

I know it sounded fanboyish Tongue  I'm easily offended by threads that start off with a negative comment instead of "Torchlight - Commentaries and experiences" or something.
Sorry about that  Smiley

Is the full game released now?

- In Scribblenauts, I attached a rod to my horse, glued a carrot to the rod, in front of the horse's face. Horse started running.
- In Super Mario Bros., I managed to get to the Minus World on the first try.
- In Katamari Damacy, I got 100% in the Cancer level, gathering all crabs in the level.
- Got all achievements in Achievement Unlocked. That was silly.
478  Player / General / Re: Torchlight - shameless Diablo ripoff by Diablo devs on: October 29, 2009, 07:40:22 AM
Why the bashing on Torchlight? I think it's a fine-looking game, with a fresh visual style. Yes it looks simple, like a Diablo for noobies, but what's wrong with that?
479  Developer / Playtesting / Re: GunFu Deadlands V0.90 on: October 29, 2009, 06:04:47 AM
I'll also rework the graphics (make the buildings a bit more lo-fi in order to match the characters' graphics better, as cactus suggested), and try to improve the AI (enemies looking for cover and non-instantaneous turns).

Oh noooooo Sad

I would highly recommend not using Bob came in Piece. It sounds like a cheap homebrew game, while your visuals and gameplay have a professional, thought-out feel to them. There's a disconnect between "Bob" and the really great game you made.
