Hmmm... isn't this thread emergent gameplay? The creators of the forum software never envisioned such an argument occurring, and I can only assume this is some sort of game to bvanevery, who seems to love provoking this sort of thing...

I tend not to use my real name in forums and games, though I've never really considered why, paranoia maybe... or maybe Praetor is my real name? Also, I just googled and I share my name with a "CSI" character... I go by my middle name. My first name is robert but it's some sort of weird tradition for the males in my family to go by their middle name. haha, my middle name is alan, definitely the cooler spelling EDIT: Oh woah, didn't know it was possible to just change your name in the profile settings; guess I'll go by my real name then!

Okay, I've got a very simple but very worthwhile suggestion.
When I type in the name of a multiplayer server and hit enter - can it please connect? Having to go and click connect seems a bit silly when it's an input field and I reflexively hit enter whenever I finish typing.
Hitting enter works for me (in Windows at least).

I'm pretty healthy I think, a bit out of shape these last few months (after months of neglecting my running routine, I went for two 5 mile runs in like 24 hours and my ankles are killing me now...)).
I am sort of prone to crashes, having totaled my car (hit by a big dump truck) and bike (faceplant into cement) in the last 6 months... luckily no severe injuries though ('cept maybe my car insurance rate...).

If I drank 2 cans on NOS in 2 hours I'm pretty sure I'd be dead. It's some powerfull stuff, it usually takes about 5 days for me to finish a single can. Chris: I've been thinking about going Vegan lately. Maybe I'll have to solicit some tips from you to make a smooth change over. Like how to get fake meats. My grocery store does not carry them, and we only have 1 grocery store. Yeah, it's strong stuff, I just went for a 5 mile run and I'm still super jittery... and I grabbed another free can on my way back, think I'd better save it for later though... I'm also from Seattle, so I'm just naturally a big coffee snob. Having just moved to Seattle for college I fear this'll be the case for me soon enough...

I'm pretty sure it's just caffeine.
I just don't understand all these energy drinks. Can't you kids just make a cup of coffee like a normal person? And get off my lawn!
But they come in bright colored/shiny bottles and cans! C'mon coffee is so boring... this reply totally has nothing to do with NOS handing out free bottles at my college this week, and me having had 2 in the past hour...

All that is on the way.
Notch previously outlined the problems with SMP and he's pretty much aware of all of them (he gets a million and one bug reports on the MC forums anyway.)
Also, I recall him saying that once the game hits Beta or RC he'll begin work on extensive modding tools.
Yeah, I remember him mentioning wanting to add moddability at some point. I can imagine all sorts of crazy stuff coming from that... a) biomes and b) the moment when Notch gets everything sorted and takes some time to tweak every sill bug out of the current release. :D Though I doubt that'd reduce the amount of whining. Yeah biomes would really add a lot and make exploring more interesting (like forests and snow-capped mountains and such would be sick...). And yeah, I swear I lose a few IQ points every time I look at the comments on Notch's blog... Also: 100th post!!1!

Both people who judge people for not doing drugs and people who judge people for doing drugs (especially when they group all drugs together) suck.
So you're judging people who judge people about drugs?

Random question: does anyone here actually play the game through the web applet?
That'd be a no here, with all the server issues, I imagine downloading it each time would be rather slow (or at least further contribute to the server issues...). I thought it was a nice touch for the free version though, since I'd probably have been too lazy to try it otherwise.....

has this been posted yet? this is just incredible, much more incredible than the reichstag.
this is a 1:1 scale model of the USS Enterprise. Kinda scary.
I read somewhere that he imported a sketchup model, rather than truly doing it brick by brick, still awesome though.

Hrm. Unfortunately, the only internet equipment I have is an ethernet bridge with only one port and a wireless router connectable by USB. Could I get some sort of connection set up through wireless? I've never really dealt with LAN or any real networking whatsoever... Actually yeah, I think wireless could work, it might depend on the router, but I was able to get something like that working a while back with a project of mine (I don't see why it wouldn't work, but I didn't pay enough attention in the one networking class I've taken, so I could be wrong...).

Hey, I heard there was a way to make an offline sort of server for local multiplayer? Exactly what equipment do you need? How do you do it?
I'd assume you just hook all the PC's up to a switch or router, run the server executable on one of the machines, and use it's local IP within the LAN to connect? (I dunno if you can allow only local machines to connect or anything like that though...).

Here's an idea: Maybe that "Play Tutorial Level" button that does nothing should be replaced with one of the numerous youtube tutorials for the time being.
That's a really good idea; and actually even just a couple screens of text and a labeled picture or two would probably be enough to get a newbie going.
