Just in the nick of time, tao-tao. Calum, do you read me? If you need, I can give you some extra time for you to finish up your work; I don't think I'll have enough time to announce the winner before tomorrow anyway, if you respond until then, I'll still accept your entry since you signaled so early, but whatever happens, the results will be up tomorrow the latest! Until then, thanks for everyone's patience in advance! At any rate thank you for all the great music, this'll be a hard one for me to judge!

Great entries so far! Keep 'em comin!
How much more time would you exactly need? We can negotiate it.

Sounds amazing this far, I always preferred generated or adaptive solutions over pre-scripted ones. Gonna keep an eye on your project as I'm rather curious to see where it gets! On a sidenote, have you ever read Growing up with Lucy by Steve Grand? I believe you might find it somewhat intriguing. In a nutshell it's about building a robot with an adaptive AI that learns everything from scratch, rather than having scripts telling it how to behave under certain conditions. Even if it is not necessarily correlating with everything you're doing, you might find its philosophy sympathetic.

You forgot Bioshock! I'll try to participate, nice theme. Very much true, now that I read at what I wrote, I realized that I have mostly given older games as examples, whereas many newer ones include amazing underwater themes too. Bioshock is a great example and it's certainly a good thing you brought it up, because it features a nice orchestral approach to the whole theme and shows that the same effect or atmosphere can be achieved regardless of instrumentation.

The Rules: -I (the host) will provide a theme for the challenge. -You will be given TWO WEEKS to compose one song with said theme. -The song must be a new track made for this challenge. -You will post your song HERE, in the official challenge thread. -Other participants will listen to your song. You will listen to other participants' songs. Critique will be had. -A winner will be chosen by the host. -The winner will host the next challenge.
Hello everyone, hope you are all ready for the next musical challenge! We all know what an important role music plays in indie games, and it is certainly nice to see how many talented artists represent themselves on the TIGSource forums. There were tons of high-quality and creative entries for the former challenges, and I hope that the current challenge will also provide a good opportunity for many of you to show off your skills and talents! Without further ado, let me introduce the theme of the XVII. TIGSource Musical Challenge:
Underwater Theme
Underwater levels. Love them or hate them, we can't deny that some of them have an incredibly immersive musical atmosphere (just think of the Metroid Fusion AQA Underwater Area theme, the Under Water track from the Donkey Kong Country I soundtrack, or the whole OST of Ecco the Dolphin, just to give a few examples). What I want you is to try and create a track that reflects and recreates that certain oceanic atmosphere, something that makes you think of the deep seas, floating, submersion and isolation.
Hopefully this topic will be one that allows most of you to relate to or at least to try to create something you haven't before. At any rate, I'm eagerly looking forward to the entries, and am wishing you the best of luck!
Final Submissions due by Monday December 10th at 11:59PM CST.

Wow, I have to say, this took me somewhat as a suprise! At any rate I'm really grateful, your decision made me incredibly happy! There were many amazing tunes entered for contest, and I definitely feel like congratulating everyone, one by one! Keep rocking guys, I'm really looking forward to listen to the entries for the new challenge - which I will post either today or tomorrow depending on my free time. Now that it's over, I can also confess that my personal favourite was Golemon's Theme from Bert Like Sounds - for me that was the one that sounded the most as a proper video game tune, and its complexity and style really brought its place in my heart. Bert, if you read me, there will be no excuse for you for not bringing a new track for the next challenge! Thank you once again, it was a pleasure both to take a part in the contest and to hear all the creative tracks that were entered! See you all in the TIGSource Musical Challenge XVII!

I've made a new set on Soundcloud to present some of my older, requested works. This far it only features one full track and two short tunes, but I might expand it later, although other requests forced me to make music that I don't really connect to, so I'm not quite sure if I want to upload them or not. At any rate, any sort of criticism or insightful observation is highly appreciated! I can listen to these tracks with my ears only, and it's not really what I need to be completely objective. Keep rocking guys! http://soundcloud.com/maverick-denizen/sets/other-works-8/

Haha, loving it this far, the gameplay looks quite interesting, and the visual style is adorable! My only complaints would be about the sound design, during melee those grunts get quite annoying pretty quickly, maybe add some new pain noises or just replace them completely. Apart from that it looks really cool!

Calum, I have to say, that having listened to some of your tracks (I'll keep listening to more and more as my time allows me), I irrevocably became a massive fan of your music. So diverse and yet so high-quality and distinct sound, your music just reeks of style and originality, just keep it up, I'm really looking forward to your future tracks!
