Hi and thank you omgnoseat and Velvety!

First, about the static look of the video, I plan on adding some animations in the background (like clouds passing through the sky, plants moving in the wind, that kind of stuff) and of course a paralax effect.

About the puzzle mecanics, it will be more like what we can find in Braid. The gameplay is essentially based on the powers confered by the shield, how the player will discover them, and use them to get through the obstacles. That means we can have a power since a long time and then use it in a way we didn't think about at first. For example, Bou will get the power to dash right in front of him. This is useful to kill enemies or destroy blocks, but you can also use it during a jump to gain a bonus distance! Some puzzles will use physics too, but that kind won't be the main type of obstacle.

I hope I could make it clear ^^

Thanks for your feedback Quicksand-S!
There is some things I need to clarify apparently ^^'

First of all, yes the music for the prototype comes from Chrono Cross OST. It is actually written in the description of the video on YouTube, but I forgot to tell it there. And I know that even if I say it, I should not use a music I don't own. Currently I did not work on the sound design, but it is a point that will be corrected in the next version.

About the camera, it is absolutly not the way it is in the true video. When I uploaded it on YouTube, it said that the video was broke in some way and that they will correct it. The result is that strange camera ^^' I have the exactly same video on Vimeo with the correct camera  movement, so I will change immediately the link to avoid confusing people.

And finally the demo. Actually I don't have a correct prototype to show, but it is one of my next aim. I plan to release one before the new year. Of course there will be an announcement here ^^

Hello everyone!

First of all, a short introduction to myself. I am Cerulean, a 26 year old french (which explains the mistakes I could make, but I will try to avoid it) graphic designer trying to work in the video games industry, my passion for many years. I am opening this topic in order to show you my current projet named:

The quest of Bou -the magical shield- is a 2D game project inspired by renowed titles such as Braid, Rayman or Limbo. Therefore it is a mixture between platform and puzzle games, all served in a 2D side scrolling package with thorough graphics.
You play as Bou, a small and chubby creature, and you will have to go to the rescue of your kidnapped friends! To fulfill this quest, a spirit gave you an orb containing a mysterious power: the shield orb. The numerous capabilities of the orb will help you to get through all the obstacles on your way! Are you ready to try this adventure?

You can already see the first official trailer for The quest of Bou - the magical shield-! In the video, you will get more details on the scenario, as well as some gameplay footage! Oh, and even if the trailer is in french, I did an english translation so don't forget to activate the subtitles  Wink

Also the game is in production since a little while, thus you can see the prototype of the first level in this video too!

If you are interested in this project, I invite you to follow the news to come here, but also to join the Facebook official page for the game at: http://www.facebook.com/LaQueteDeBou
I am currently working on a development blog, which is empty for now, but you can save the link for later: http://thequestofbou.blogspot.fr/

And one last word, the game is actually competing in a contest organized by the Ganuta website. The winning proposal will be sponsored during 6 to 9 months by a professionnal from the game industry. If you want to give your support to Bou, do not hesitate to go to his page and vote for him: http://concours.ganuta.com/galerie/177/la-quete-de-bou-le-bouclier-magique

I thank you all for your attention, and I am available for all your questions and feedbacks! See you soon!

Sorry, actually I tried it one more time and now it works fine! I think that it came from my wifi connection the first time ^^'

The concept reminds me an old game I used to play when I was young called La chasse aux monstres (Monster Hunt once translated I think). There was a slot machine with parts of monsters too, plus some cards which represented all the monsters the machine would create. Each player had a blue hand with a suction, and the aim was to be the first to get the good monster with that blue hand. That was very fun ^^
This is the only picture I could find about it:

But back to your application, I like the old fashioned style of the illustrations, like if it comes from an ancient fairy tales book ^^ Some are really weird too! The combinations are fun to discover, but there is a lack of response when I try to change the parts. Maybe you should try to fix that and that be grat ^^

I discovered your game a few month ago on your website (I am a french graphic designer and did apply spontaneously for a job in your company back in January  Smiley).
I am always fan of the style of your game, I hope you will bring it out! I give it a vote on Greenlight, keep up the good work ^^
I'll check your demo later too  Wink
