I almost didn't survive. I passed out in union square last night.
Glad you made it out alive (and that someone apparently got even drunker than me)! You still up for no more Sweden?

I'm going to try and take (force) cactus and the crew that's staying with me to go see a midnight showing of Terminator 2 on Saturday night, if anyone's interested.
I love Arnold, especially if we can have a few beers before. I can force Blueberry Garden and You Have to Burn the Rope to come along, and I'm sure Petri and Where is my Heart will be up for it. Man, I'm so looking forward to meeting up with you guys again

Sure, the article sounds a bit ridiculous, but it's meant to be read by snobby art folks (or wannabe snobby art folks), not game developers or gamers.
I think it's awesome that Mark's games are being recognized as art. I hope I can have a similar article written about me some day.
Games should be taken more seriously, and even if it means some people take it to the extreme, that's not a problem with me. I'm surprised you guys aren't congratulating him instead of bitching about the article itself.

I did two designs, but I went with the latter. I guess my title is Independent Game Developer. Also, my brother helped designing the last one. Photoshop doesn't work on my computer

I just ordered a hundred from overnightprints last night. I got asked for business cards about 20 times last year, so I'm hoping I'll have a few to spare so I can use them to impress people when I get back home (the design turned out really nice, let's hope they look good in print). I've never had business cards before, I'm pretty excited about it

Wow, I love Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Watched all 110 episodes + 30 of the other episodes and three of the four movies. Good times. The game looks like it will be quite sweet so far. I think it would feel quite awesome if you manage to get the sense of large scale battle down right. As for the graphics I have a few things that bother me slightly. The fire from the ships' tails annoy me a bit. Maybe that could be toned down a bit, I don't remember the ships actually using their main engines unless they were trying to retreat or whatever. Also, the trails from the gunfire could look more interesting. The transparent green and purple lines look a bit dull, and the colors aren't very striking. I'd suggest you use nontransparent whites with a hint of yellow or red depending on which side is firing maybe, and also thin the lines a bit perhaps. Anyway, graphics aren't that important, and I'm really looking forward to trying this out. I am excited about seeing how you will do the gameplay <semi-OT>You've made me want to see the series too, is it worth grabbing?</> Definitely worth it! Give it at least five or ten episodes to build up, though. The first two episodes feel a bit bland because they throw you straight into things that don't feel very important because you haven't gotten to know the characters involved.

Player / Games / Re: NIGHT GAME TRAILER OUT OH YEAH!!!
|

Anyway, back to the trailer, for a reason I can't put my finger on I don't really like it. Perhaps it's just that it feels too depersonalized to play as a bouncing ball going through physics puzzles. The areas look too pat and artificial, rather than the natural atmospheric areas in his other games. I saw the game when Hideous did and was really impressed. Compared to what we were shown the teaser is actually quite bad. If you read the comments here you'll see that Nifflas himself says that he wished they had shown more content. The problem with the teaser is that they are avoiding spoilers and move so fast that you probably miss a lot details that aren't evident unless you stay in the screen for more than a second.

I really like the look of the game, the colours are crisp and the dotted lines create a nice style. The concept is quite cool too, I don't think I've seen a game that uses the same mechanics before. I hope you do well in the competition That said, I'm not that big a fan of puzzle games, so once I lost I kind of quit playing. I would've probably enjoyed the game more if it had been modified to be a little bit more action oriented. For instance, it would've been cool to use the goo mechanics to do a The Blob-like game, where you have to trap tiny people running around and absorb them to become bigger. And at the same time maybe there'd be stuff that hurt the goo, like exploding trucks, things that caught fire or whatever. I'm sure a lot of casual / puzzle gamers will love it the way it is though

Now, to not suck at it...
I think that took me about 15-20 minutes of frustration; but man, when you get good it's so satisfying! Yeah cactus, the learning curve isn't great, but I don't think you should try and tweak it at all, because once you've picked it up that game is an absolute blast to play! Yeah, that's exactly how I felt. When I first implented the scoring system I got my ass handed to me, but then I started winning and it felt really good. I should've probably made the graphics more attractive to keep people playing until they started getting a good grasp on the gameplay. Maybe added some humorous effects when you lost so it wouldn't be as frustrating
