I second Punishment. And why not Punishment 2 that was released only a day ago. PUNISHMENT: THE PUNISHING Without spoiling too much, I can say that this game is down right evil. The gameplay revolves around tricky platforming, and flipping switches to open the door to the next level. Except there's one big twist that will make your mother cry. Everytime you get to a new level you have to flip all the switches in each and everyone of the earlier levels again. So you have to make it all the way down to the bottom level, and start flipping the switches over and over. And over. It also features a two player mode for added frustration, as well as a highscore table that keeps track on how many times you've died, and how long it took you to finish the game. http://eocommunity.co.uk/bloglink.php?id=14&blog=19368http://chevyray.com/eo/PUNISHMENT2.zip <- Use this download link!

I'm gonna try to join in on the fun. Sounds like a great theme that allows for lots of creativity. Got a pretty good concept in mind, just need to finish of all my other responsibillities first. Will be really interesting to see everyone's entries. I hope at least some of you are going for "Awfully good" (as seen in the poster), and not just awfully awful

Looking great from the screenshots, good sir! I wish I had time to try it, but I'm too busy with my entry at the moment. Will check it out as soon as I finish, though. Yeah, the deadline is August 13th at 6 pm, so almost 24 hrs to go

I second FlapFlapFlap. It hasn't got the best gameplay, but the storyline and graphics are to die for! Games I feel deserve to be on the list: NikujinAwesome Ninja action with many cool maneuvers and ingenious level design. Nifty graphics also a big plus. rRootageKenta Cho in action. Good variety, with four different gameplay modes and around twenty levels. Hot graphics as always, and very fitting sounds/music. PunishmentThe most frustrating game ever made? Makes you want to pull your hair out. The graphics are bizarre, music is like torture and the gameplay is twisted and downright evil. PoyoVery nice platformer. Inspired by Cave Story, but more of a puzzle platformer with short difficult levels that require a lot of skill to complete. Nice topic! I'm honored to find one of my own games in that list next to all the other big names

I'd have to go with NES/SNES tunes. Megaman 1-3 standing out especially. Also love Journey to Silius, and Cyborg009 for the SNES. One of the Captain Tsubasa games also has some great tunes, but I never actually played the game, just found the music somewhere. The StreetFighterII music also brings back fond memmories, but I'm not sure I'd like it if I hadn't played the game so much.
I really like the songs in Clean Asia too. But I feel a bit smug saying that since I was involved in making the game (although I had nothing to do with creating the music).

Don't forget the wonderfully trippy plot. I actually thought the plot was relatively uninteresting. It didn't do much for me. I couldn't find any symbolism or interpret whatever it was trying to say. Either it was too complex for me, or it was just pointless in a way that didn't really fascinate me. I'm probably just spoiled because I've managed to stumble upon a lot of other really interesting/bizarre plotlines and ideas by other Japanese people. However, the settings and characters are definitely up there with the graphics. The ghosts are ingenious.

A while back I discovered the personal site of Ikki, the creator of Nikujin. Some of his games are really messed up; one involves shooting your own poop out of a vacuum and spraying it all over a museum. Run it through Google Translate for the weird descriptions, all of the download links work: http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA018221/zensyo/game.htmDoes anyone know if there is a way to get a hold of the games that has been removed? They seem to have a different style from his other efforts, and I'd love to see it. Those screens leave a lot to the imagination. Man, I still haven't beaten Nikujin. And it's been years since I first started playing. Those damn bomb jumps are impossible

I didn't really like LA2, and neither have I enjoyed mr Cho's other online (java) based games as much as his more powerful ones. I recently got around to trying Tumiki Fighters, and was pleasantly surprised that it actually ran on my computer. It seemed pretty fun, but it lacks something all of his games seem to do. They all have style and gameplay, but nothing more. I don't know if it is story elements I miss, but I'd play his games more if they had something to get attached to at least. But I guess that such features might take away from the amazing audiovisual presentation all of his work carries. My favourite games of his are probably Noiz2sa and rRootage. But I haven't tried Taurus Trooper, Titanion, Gunroar or Mu-Cade yet. So I guess my opinions may not be as valid as I assume. While on that subject, I might as well go try 'em right now
