The deadline extension gave us time to reevaluate some of the art assets, and this is the result:

I spent last night and this morning re-doing all of the sprites for the beat em up parts, and it was definitely worth it.

Nick has also gotten the cars in, and working great along with the player driving about amongst them.

That's me on the far right, causing the huge traffic jam! :D

The game is really taking shape now. We have a pile of sound effects, all bitcrushed to the quality of NES sounds. New release date is next Sunday now. We're going to make the most of this extra week. Smiley

Great work man. Your sprites are fantastic.

Just a quick progress report so you don't think this is dead, despite Castle Crashers sucking away many hours form my life.

* Most of the map is created, this will be finished tomorrow.
* People are in fully now
* Missions are in, along with the text for them and the arrow telling you where to go
* HUD Font is created, just needs to be implemented
* Other vehicles are almost in
* Mugging mini game is almost done
* Work on the sound will commence tomorrow
* Work on police system will commence tomorrow or Saturday
* Some secret stuff that you'll have to wait until you play to discover will be done this weekend too Wink
* Polishing will take place then if there is time

There's a few features we wanted to get in but may not make the cut. If there's time we'll put them in.

That's probably all you'll hear until Saturday, or Sunday when we release this for you lot.

Here's a quick screenshot to whet your appetite...

I've got all the tools for creating XNA games installed here and it won't run, but the title I'm working on runs fine compiled. There must be something else causing the crash.
85  Community / Bootleg Demakes / Re: SHADE: Ghost Academy ("FINISHED") on: August 25, 2008, 11:18:25 AM
Still crashes. XNA Dev Framework installed here and everything. Sad

I meant the XNA checker program.
87  Community / Bootleg Demakes / Re: SHADE: Ghost Academy ("FINISHED") on: August 25, 2008, 04:18:23 AM
That application just plain doesn't work.
88  Community / Bootleg Demakes / Re: [FINISHED] Thieving Raccoon on: August 23, 2008, 01:23:56 AM
That's pretty cool.

Any 80s Cell I've ever seen was grey, and they did have small screens on them to display the number you are dialing.

Anyway it's irrelevant since the HUD isn't even finished yet.
90  Community / Bootleg Demakes / Re: Large-Scale Vehicular Stealing on: August 16, 2008, 06:45:48 AM
That's just a default font, haven't created a proper one yet. It's on the list, this is still WIP.
91  Community / Bootleg Demakes / Re: Large-Scale Vehicular Stealing on: August 16, 2008, 04:34:07 AM
Gosh.  Looking better still.

How're you getting along with mission-related coding?

Working on it now. Missions will essentially be a case of getting some randomly generated text telling you to kill someone, and the reason you have to. From there and arrow will point to the screen you have to go to to get there. Once you get to him there'll be a mini game where you have a shoot out with him.

That map is looking absolutely amazing, keep up the great work.

Runs fine on my Vista machine. Collision with objects was really annoying, for instance getting past the area between the lamp and bin is really awkward.

Progress is a bit slow, but will pick up at the weekend.

A in game screen to whet your appetite.
Resolution is set at 640*480 so you can make things out in windowed mode but all sprites stick to 8*8 and 16*16 and we're using a NES palette ensure authenticity. Hell, the car even flickers when you scroll to a new screen.

Haha, her winking makes that second screen perfect.

A screenshot of the map editor I made for it. I'll probably release it along with the game so you can create your own maps. Smiley

This is a joint effort by myself and some other guys from the Zombie Cow forums. So far Nickenstein(also of CGEmpire) is helping with the code, and marshmonkey(of Nimble Bit) has contributed a spiffy car sprite. Beer!

Progress Report:
Map - Done
Map Editor - Done(but not that good
Car Controls - Done(need some tweaking though)
Player Controls - Movement done, shooting to be done, interaction with people/cars to be done

Car Stealing Minigame - Possibly done, I'm not coding that

This app looks like a God send if it works well.

99  Community / Bootleg Demakes / Large-Scale Vehicular Stealing[FINISHED] **Proper Installer** on: August 01, 2008, 06:16:32 AM

Sorry for the long wait, we really needed all the time we could get, and not everything made the cut! There was so much more to include, but here's what we got done, we think it's more than enough.
**REQUIRES XNA**
If it doesn't run after installing XNA, then I don't know what's wrong, Microsoft have totally messed up XNA. It's probably the last time I'll use XNA for this competition due to this. Really sorry if it doesn't run for you. Sad
Original Large Scale Vehicular Stealing ZIP**OLD VERSION**

Due to the number of people having issues running the game we've finally gotten an installer put together. This version can be downloaded from here:
LSVS Game Page
It also contains a few bug fixes related to playing the game again after losing/winning, and adds in some of the art that was originally missing. I'll keep the link to the original here since it's the Compo one and I don't know the rules on updates after the deadline...

Do let us know if there's a problem with the installer. Smiley
100  Developer / Playtesting / Ben There, Dan That! on: July 15, 2008, 10:29:06 AM
From the creator and co-creator of Gibbage comes Ben There, Dan That!, an adventure game following the story of the two titular characters.

Very much in the vein of old Lucas Arts adventures you'll be barraged with witty dialogue from the off and right up until the end. The graphical style works great, all scribbles and out of the lines colouring in, fitting perfectly with the game's laid back, non-serious tone.

One thing it doesn't share in common with the Lucas Arts adventure of yore is the mind numbingly difficult and obscure puzzles. Every puzzle in the game will be solved without the need of trying everything with and on everything, it's all very logical. So even if you're rubbish at Adventure games you should be able to get through this one easily enough.

Best of all, this title is completely free and can be downloaded from Dan's newly launched Zombie Cow website right here.

Happy Adventuring. Gentleman
