I mean, sure it's that place in between levels, right? That's kind of open ended, I think. No problem with that if that's intended. Just wanna make sure I'm not missing something.
Yeah it's meant to be open ended, so go crazy!

The Rules: -I (the host) will provide a theme for the challenge. -You will be given TWO WEEKS to compose one song with said theme. -The song must be a new track made for this challenge. -You will post your song HERE, in the official challenge thread. -Other participants will listen to your song. You will listen to other participants' songs. Critique will be had. -A winner will be chosen by the host. -The winner will host the next challenge.
First of I want to say I'm really enjoying the community here. I've only been here a couple weeks and there's so much great stuff going on in every thread. Just about every morning I jump on and check out what's new on the front page of the forum. With it's access to many a sub-forum. Guess it's sort of like an Overworld....... (Apologies for the terrible sugue) -Overworld Theme- Peach's Castle in Mario 64, The House in Braid, the uh, Ocean in Wind Waker. These are just a tiny handful of overworlds with both awesome and fitting music. For this challenge, write a piece that represents your Overworld. Like the Character Theme challenge, the Overworld can be one that already exists in a game or one you create yourself. And it doesn't have to be a happy Overworld with rolling hills and blue skies, make it any overworld you can imagine. Hell*, your Overworld can be the Underworld! Make it something you can interpret in your personal style. Hope you enjoy the theme! Looking forward to hearing the entries, and Good Luck! Final Submissions due by Tuesday January the 1st at 11:59PM *probably the best joke ever.

A template is a project set up and filled with whatever tracks, instruments and effects you want or use on a regular basis. But instead of recording in the project, leave it blank and click "Save as template" (or something similar) and it'll now be accessible as a template for you to open when creating a new project. There's alot of info online if you want to know more or if I didn't do a great job of explaining.

Sounding awesome and watery so far guys! Moritz, are the Ondes and glass harmonic for soniccouture? They sound lovely! Here's my entry, Beneath the Surface, I was tempted to pay tribute all the awesome watery tracks mentioned above, but after a little while of nothing sounding very good, I pulled out a guitar, and "drenched" (water pun! ) it in reverb and delays. Hope you enjoy!

Hi there! Still new to the forum, and enjoying all the stuff going on here. I just finished fiddling around with my first proper little kontakt instrument, and I'd like to share it with you guys. Not sure how many people here use kontakt, but if you do, I hope you enjoy it. Download here, https://www.box.com/s/m88ziv30jv9t4z6hz7xiHave a listen here, http://soundcloud.com/8th-mode-music/portamental-badassAll the synths are created from a custom recording of a circular saw cutting into concrete. The recording was then looped, pitched and messed with until some fun sounds came out. There are three patches (the mono "Portamental" and Poly Shorts and Poly Pad) and four voices in each patch that you can use simultaneously or seperately. Anyway, if you are able to give it a try, tell me what you think, etc... Thanks! *Note that it only works in the full version of Kontakt 5

Yeah, find some tutorials for whatever synths/samples you're using. Maybe a little info on what you're using would help?
For writing, find music you like and analyze it. Either transcribe by ear, by using midis (ton of vgm midis can be found online), or from sheet music. Find out what you like about the piece (be it a chord progression, scale, etc..) And try to put it into practice yourself. It doesn't matter if this practice sounds like a copy, the more you learn/repeat the process, the more your ear will develop, along will your "own" sound. Of course some basic theory is needed, but nothing you can't find online.
