1. MASSIVE game that would probably be much more expensive to develop than ff13 and 15 were. imagine having to recreate all those prerendered backgrounds in realtime 3d, imagine having to voice all that dialog etc etc.
2. demand is probably not high enough to make it worthwhile for squeenix because no one other than ff fans really cares. even if 100000 fans end up buying the remake at launch, 100k sales is considered a failure for a big budget AAA game. i think ppl sometimes overestimate the actual demand for a ff7 remake because some people are very vocal about it on the internet. its definitely not anything like a "license to print money" for squeenix.
maybe theyll do a remaster with better 3d models and uprezzed backgrounds at some point, but a full blown remake? not gonna happen.
I couldn't withstand.

relentless as the tarantula
they're not going to let you sit at a front table at some cafe in Europe in the mid-afternoon sun. if you do, somebody's going to drive by and spray your guts with a submachine gun.
they're not going to let you feel good for very long anywhere. the forces aren't going to let you sit around fucking-off and relaxing. you've got to go their way.
the unhappy, the bitter and the vengeful need their fix - which is you or somebody anybody in agony, or better yet dead, dropped into some hole.
as long as there are humans about there is never going to be any peace for any individual upon this earth or anywhere else they might escape to.
all you can do is maybe grab ten lucky minutes here or maybe an hour there.
something is working toward you right now, and I mean you and nobody but you.

This put a huge smile on my face. Well done, Ireland! Ireland same-sex referendum: Vote counting begins
[..]If the change is approved, the Republic of Ireland would become the first country to legalise same-sex marriage through a popular vote.
Minister for Equality Aodhan O Riordain said on Twitter: "I'm calling it. Key boxes opened. It's a yes. And a landslide across Dublin. And I'm so proud to be Irish today."
Minister for Health Leo Varadkar, who earlier this year came out as the Republic of Ireland's first openly gay minister, said the campaign had been "almost like a social revolution".
Speaking from the Dublin count, he told Irish broadcaster RTE that it appeared about 75% of votes being counted there were in favour of legalising same-sex marriage.
Some prominent "no" campaigners have already conceded defeat.
David Quinn of the Iona Institute, a Catholic group, said it was "obviously a very impressive victory for the 'yes' side".

Perhaps SimLife is what you're looking for? SimLife: The Genetic Playground was a relatively successful attempt by Maxis to produce an ecosystem simulator, allowing the player to design their own planetary ecosystem based on basic laws of physics which they could control in regards to a planetary climate, such as radiation, gravity, heat, light, and so forth.
The object of the game was to successfully produce a stable Earth-like planetary ecosystem and populate it with plants and animals either provided by the game or created by the players themselves, a task which required great patience and a meticulous nature, as the animals could be tweaked in dozens of ways using slider controls, and would easily perish if conditions for their survival weren't perfect.
