1  Jobs / Collaborations / Looking for Unity Programmer/Scripter to Partner with. on: January 31, 2016, 11:06:25 AM
Hello Humans,

I'm, an Artist and Programmer looking for a Unity Programmer and partner.

After finishing my last project solo; providing the game's design, art(Still Updating), programming and sounds.
I've realized more than ever that I need a second set of hands to speed up work.

I need someone proficient in scripting for unity, because my next two projects will be in Unity.
One is a casual arcade game about ice cream. Sounds simple but has more depth. Will be happy to explain this particular one if asked.

Later on, a VR Game for the Google CardBoard/Android/iOS. - Please note! I'm not under-estimating the difficulty of a VR game. However, what I have in mind is doable so I will not be defeated by VR complexities."Believe It"- some hybrid ninja fox kid.

I'm well versed in Photoshop, Illustrator, and can provide all of the art needs including animation and graphics programming.
As far as programming for unity. I'm new to Unity, I'm a quick learner and can comprehend C# but
I'm a Javascript Programmer.

I'll learn whichever language you script in for Unity though.

I'm working on a prototype in unity as you read this.
If you're interested, you can leave a message here, send me a Pm, or email me at [email protected]
>:| don'tchu judge my email name, I was 13, I keep it for it's legacy.

Anyways, I'm a real cool guy to work with, down to earth and like long walks on the beach. all that good stuff.
Unity Programmers hit me up!

Below are some screenshots of my last project's alpha version.

Recruiting sounds like you're gonna pay your employees

Maybe my article on starting your first game project and recruiting a team will help u http://spiffygoats.com/indie-tutorial-starting-a-project-and-forming-a-team/

That's a good tutorial. I wish I had saw it earlier instead of learning through hands on experience and months of watching forums.

Sure thing,

I'm sure you've heard some variation of the saying "songs are rides", "musical roller coaster" or something similar.

The majority of songs that reach a high level of quality tend to pick the listeners up, take them on a ride and then soundly drop them off somewhere they were or could have expected.

While doing the above, Nujabes has this re-occurring theme in his music; nearly each of his songs progress as if it were a melodic transitioning between photos and clips of the same theme. So you're getting variations of similar sounds that meld together in a rhythmic pattern that produces this sense of movement.

Your songs sits the listeners down and gives nice ambient music to one or two scenes or 'photos'. Which isn't entirely bad because it's a nice array of sounds for those seeking restful progression in music; but from speculation most people are looking for movement("the ride"). A flaw lots of ambient music is subjected to, is that it leaves the listener with an unfulfilled urge to move.

One way to produce this movement and keep your unique style is to have an occasionally surfacing rhythm or melody.

Hope this helps! and I hope my metaphorical references haven't left you confuzzled. Smiley

I really love the style to your music.

Ambient, uniquely progressive and enjoyable.

It reminds me of soundtracks from Machinarium and Botanicula.

If you made some tracks with your style and elements found in Nujabe's music; You'd have some really good stuff. Coffee

It may help to give a little information about your team and/or the project.
8  Developer / Design / Re: Coop only? on: February 06, 2013, 07:13:21 AM
LittleBigPlanet, LittleBigPlanet 2

While these are not co-op only, they are excellent examples of the theme your going for.
Just a forewarning if it's your first time hearing of the game, because many people iv'e suggested this to have been turned-off by this fact. A first look might classify it as a children's game due to it's childish appeal; however, its complexity and possibility within the game far exceeds the capability of any 7-10 year old.

Taking a look at the levels within the game, you'll see how there are obstacles that require 2-4 players in order to get through. In some cases there are entire levels that cannot be completed without 4 players.
You could try using these examples to help form your concept.
9  Developer / Design / Re: What is motivation enough? on: February 04, 2013, 11:13:48 PM
I had a weird feeling this discussion would drag out another two pages. Yawn Definitely should have finished that post I was writing when it was only two.

Jeff. Over the course of three to four pages you've been making assumptions on player preference seemingly based on what you prefer; which would be fine as mere 'informed speculation'. However, more times than not you tried to present those assumptions as facts; but the statistics you provided to validate them tend to boil down to more assumptions.
A bit Far-fetched, but it also seems as if you're taking others' differing views as assaults on your opinion and those who think similarly.

No one is demanding that you change your opinion and I doubt anyone here has a full hard-on for making you entirely wrong. The sum of the concept that I believe Paul and a few others have conveyed is that... in a setting such as this, where you aren't required to substantiate your claims with five+ sources; it's common respect not to parade your personal preference as facts.
10  Community / Creative / Re: A small question regarding concept- and pixel artists. on: January 28, 2013, 10:58:12 AM
I can't speak for others; but as a pixel artist I tend to not rely on concept art so much.
Once I have a basic idea of what the sprite should look like and maybe a basic sketch to reference; that's enough for me to begin working.

However, concept artist should keep a conscious mind as to how their drawings translate into sprites.
One way to do this is by not making the defining traits of a character, object or other entity something that is small. -Or otherwise something that will get filtered out due to scaled down proportions.

For example, I wouldn't have engravings on a sword be a defining trait on a character that's merely 32x48.

Also the 'S' on Superman's chest is a good example of a trait that isn't easily filtered out; because It would take a lot of scaling down for it to be removed.

Hope that helps out a little!
11  Developer / Design / Re: What is motivation enough? on: January 27, 2013, 09:13:40 PM
A thing that motivates me to keep playing, especially in the action genre; is when a game leaves plenty of room for the player to improve their technique or to 'Do Differently'.

It may not be action but take Angry Birds for an example! Simple objective, but plenty of room to do things differently when replaying a level. Whether it's shooting from a new angle, trying a different launch power or timing the activation of the blue birds. The more you improve your technique, the closer you are to getting three stars or a higher score.

So I would say give the players room to improve their technique, then reward them for doing it.

Sorry, at the moment I cannot think of another motivation for your concept. Sad
However, a question that may help you out by answering is...

If you had to play your game for 24-hours straight.
How much(In the game) would change in that time period, is it rewarding enough to keep you awake; and at the end how is it better than when you first started? Explain Why.

12  Jobs / Collaborations / Re: Edgar Phoete ~ Composer & Sound Designer... looking for YOU! on: January 03, 2013, 10:58:14 AM

You're very welcome.

If you meant a portfolio of my compositions, I don't have one. The few songs I composed for the piano are ingrained into my hands' muscle memory.

But if you meant my actual skill; 2D Design. Here's the link to my post on this forum.
http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=29997.0

Or here's a link to my small portfolio; I Just updated it with a new pixel art section- still building it though. http://kenskaeden.carbonmade.com/

Great music! These are the kind of songs I study/analyze when I'm trying to compose piano songs of my own. I loved Pirates'Carnival; it was a great mixture of instruments and smooth transitioning between the different parts of the song. Overall, very great work!

Unfortunately, I don't have a reliable team to work on semi-professional level projects yet; but if I ever run across someone who does, I will definitely refer you to them or vice versa.

Keep up the awesome work!

Nice to meet you Adam and Eve[Evan*]. Coffee

I'll probably send you two emails as well, but just in case I happen not to send anything by today or tomorrow.

It's great to meet you two. I'm currently working on a project with another member, but I look forward to collaborating with or even discussion projects for games with you sometime in the future.
15  Community / Writing / Re: Looking to collaborate with Writer/s for Slenderman Story+ on: December 23, 2012, 06:49:39 PM
I don't mean to be condescending or mean, but... If you have all this creative energy and you want to MAKE something, why do you just work off an existing mythos? Why not create your own creature? Slenderman is becoming almost as played out as zombies, with much less reason.

Maybe i'm picking up the wrong message, but I never said I was full of "creative energy" nor did I say I wouldn't/couldn't create something that was an original piece of work.

I chose to write about Slenderman because there seems like a lot mystery to its background and motives; which leaves room for many concepts and theories. I happened to come up with a unique theory to the folklore that, hopefully, no one else has thought of, so I wanted to make a short story about it. -regardless of how much attention it gets.
16  Community / Writing / Re: Looking to collaborate with Writer/s for Slenderman Story+ on: December 17, 2012, 02:22:00 AM
No Evan its not; at least not to my knowledge. by "Slenderman story+" I just meant the slenderman story plus/possibly additional projects; some that include stories for games.

Thanks Captastic, will definitely work on cutting out those excessive details from my rough drafts. I tend to go back and weed out most of my unnecessary wording when finishing up a story; but I'll make a habit of fixing it early on.

I'm not sure what you meant by "prose in-line with dialogue", but if your talking about the way it was formatted then, this was something that was unintentionally done. I only tried to turn it from a one paragraph block of mayhem to something a tad bit more presentable as a post.
17  Community / Writing / Looking to collaborate with Writer/s for Slenderman Story+ on: December 16, 2012, 10:54:51 PM
I started working on a story that revolved around the folklore "Slenderman". Not sure if I'm  one of many to attempt this or apart only a few who've tried. However, I wanted give readers a first-person perspective of the eerie and horrifying events that surrounds the appearances of "Slenderman". I'm looking for any writers that could help me out!and if things go well work on future stories.
Like many; I know a good start to the story, a great finish, and some thrilling events in between but I have trouble tying everything together without losing focus or morale. Send me message if you think you can help out; and if things go well we could work on future stories.

Here's a rough draft of the beginning.

“Where are they?...”
“But, why?”
“Oh, I see.”
“Can they see me?”
“Oh. I see”

               ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
“Damn, give me just one minute! I left the twenty in the car. Oh. Scratch that! It was behind my wallet.” I followed with a smirk and a muffled laugh; trying to conceal the embarrassment of being unprepared after nearly one-hundred items had been scanned. However, it was an effort to no avail. The cashier and customer behind me were no more amused or forgiving than the can of olives atop the bag of groceries. With one more attempt, I glanced from one side of the store to another with an intense look as if a more pressing concern had surfaced in my mind. They bought it; I hope.
“That’s sad, I knew that kid.” my eyes finally set upon a poster of child that recently went missing.
“Really? Well if you have any “information of where he may be just...” The cashier began to say in the blandest voice before I cut him off.
“No, no. I didn’t mean it like that; I’ve just seen him around the area a few times. ” My shoulders slouched with the depressing thoughts of this information.
“He was trying to skip pebbles across a sidewalk puddle about a week ago, actually; just a few blocks down from here.” I pondered the event; hoping that somewhere in my memory was a minuscule clue to where the kid might be. The thoughts were scattered as the cashier handed me my receipt.
“No little bit of knowledge can hurt the situation, I suppose.” He said with a condemning tone like he knew I wasn't going to tell a single soul, nor remember by the end of my short drive home.
“Yeah I guess not. I hope he turns up soon!”

-“So do I, the last thing this town needs is more people vanishing.”
18  Jobs / Collaborations / 2D Artist looking to make some new connections! (Pixel Artist Take-a-Look) on: November 27, 2012, 10:12:01 PM
Hey, I'll cut out the long back story of why I aspire to be a game developer lol; I'll simply say that I've developed a decent set of skills in terms of designing games, ranging from story-plot developing, concept design, game-play design, and my forte which is art & art-concepts.

Here's a small portfolio of some of my work; http://kenskaeden.carbonmade.com/  It's not a lot, just all the work that was backed up after my computer crashed.

I'm looking for variety of people with different skill sets or even the same as mine! Fun people to talk to, discuss ideas and maybe even attempt(whether fail or succeed) projects with. All in an effort to expand my network(and yours as well) of people interested in game design past the single friend I have that shares the same hobby. *blah blah blah* *more words you may not care for* *single, Pisces, long walks on the beach, yeah that stuff*

Anyway you get the gist?, Send me a message! or two!

!!Pixel Artist!!( <-- If you see this in your peripherals before you finish reading the above, feel free to skip ahead and read this.

I'm a decent pixel artist, I can pixel anything I can imagine; with the time and patience. I went to the beach one day to get some exercise but mainly to observe the waves and ripples to try to develop a systematic way of making a surface water pixel-tile animation. (I did develop that method BTW). Long story short! It inspired me to want to create a game or game-like environment that is made of pixels, yet portrays lighting, texture hints, animation and effects similar to that of a realistic environment. All the while still having bold colors and scenery based on fantasy. It may sound like an oxymoron, a Realistic-Fantasy art concept, but Is really just making an environment that's noticeably pixel art, but contains lighting, animation and effects that lay on the borderline of Realistic and Fantasy.
Please send me a message if your interested, I'd be more than happy to discuss techniques, tips and everything related to such.

regards,
Kaaeden.
