Developer / Audio / Newb here, tips for starting out?
|
on: May 01, 2013, 01:38:59 AM

So I have been making games for quite some years now and can reasonably confidently do every other aspect of development other than Music, and I figure its time to start learning how to make it for myself instead of trying to get others to do it all the time. Would you guys have any tips for a guy just starting out with game music? What programs are best? Should I have a MIDI piano? I appreciate any help.

Developer / Design / Making a game disturbing
|
on: May 01, 2013, 12:48:20 AM

If theres one thing I like doing when making games its messing with people; be it scares, atmosphere or just making it plain disturbing. And I just wanted to pitch a question about how to make a game disturbing and peoples views on this. It could also apply to horror games as well and how to really undermine somebodys security. There can be three types of disturbing/scary games in my opinion: the ones that hit the spot, the ones that fail, and the tryhard ones that throw new stuff at you every 5 seconds. One game that seems to still have me loving it despite its simplistic outward appearance is Au Sable.
Theres just something about it I can't put my finger on, I feel like its the simplicity with the dark undertones, or the music droning out through the whole thing. Or the limited dialogue that makes your mind try to piece the vague but disturbing story together. Or all of it, but whatever it is... its awesome. Thoughts?

Thanks! Here's some more.
Super awesome, in my opinion it would look better with more contrast in the lines to bring out the picture a bit more, I think thats what made me mistake the other one for pen. The darker lines seem to portray the dark demeanor of the character for me.
