Player / Games / Re: Big List of Interviews of Independent Game Developers

I've done a few a couple interviews over Google Hangout. The first interview I did was about the Meriwether game from Kickstarter a while back, and it turned out great... except for the echo in the beginning. Seriously, though, they had some great stories to tell. Meriwether's Joshua DeBonis and Carlos Hernandez of Sortasoft Legend of Dungeon's Calvin Goble and Alix Stolzer of RobotLovesKitty I'll be focusing on OUYA developers, and I run the interviews over Google Hangout so people can join in and ask their own questions. We plan on doing these weekly once we really get things running. Hope you like 'em.

If you are thinking about what to say and writing the script why can't you say it also present it ? Are you such a monster to look at ?
I do plan on doing some YouTube stuff for the channel, too. But the main series is actually shot in a studio to keep it high quality, and I live on the other side of the country, haha. I actually do conduct interviews, though. You can view the most recent one here: As you can see, I'm still working on my hosting skills.

Then, 'Wow I'm really not excited by any of these games.'
Hah, I'd be surprised if you were! They were all created in just a few days for a game jam, after all. I like the holographic sticker, that's neat. If this goes ahead make business cards like that.
Now that is a very cool idea. I wish I had time to do this for PAX.

The girl in episode two sounds like she's patronizing me. I also hate how she's telling me things look fun. Let me decide on my own I'll definitely pass the feedback on to her. We lost our last host at the last minute, so the new one (Jade) didn't get much preperation. She'll get better with more practice. As for the "it looks fun" stuff, that's all on me, since I do the writing for the episodes. The script for that episode was made up of website posts I'd written. That's probably why it has that problem. You're right, though. It doesn't make sense to tell people what to think of the game if they're already watching it! I'll work on that next time. Episode #3 recently went up, and this time I wrote a new script for the episode. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that one. We finished off our game jam coverage in this episode, so next time we'll be getting to some bigger indie games. To be honest, episode two & three were filmed in a rush so we'd have more to show for our Kickstarter. We'll definitely do a better job on future episodes.

There's a little project I've been working on with some friends, and I thought you guys might like it: OUYA Radar - Episode #2This week, we highlight some really cool entries from the OUYA CREATE Game Jam. We're running a Kickstarter right now to help get us started. We're over halfway there, but we only have a few days left! I'd be really happy if you took a look at us: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ogs/ouya-gaming-sourceMore info:We want to make a project to help give coverage to OUYA games that deserve it, but aren't getting noticed. This helps out gamers, but it helps out developers, too. OUYA Radar is our weekly video series, but check out our website, too: http://www.ouyagamingsource.com/We also run community interviews with OUYA developers through Google hangout. We've done a few of them so far, including one with the Legend of Dungeon developers ( ). Once we get started, these will be weekly, too. What do you guys think? I'd love to hear some questions or suggestions. If any of you are working on an OUYA game, too, then tell me all about it!

Community / Writing / Re: World Building

Wow, other world-building junkies! I didn't know how many were out there. Are you guys also the type that loves to read P&P source books not to play them, but just to get immersed in the world? Or someone that has tons of notebooks bursting with... well, not stories, exactly... but worlds? I guess I'll toss something in, too. This is from a futuristic space setting of mine, and it's about what sort of clothing the robotic race wears. They're called "Fixers". They were built to be a hivemind robot race, but their ship crashed on the way to wherever it was going, stranding them on a hostile rock with no connection to the hivemind. They never knew their origin or why they were alone, and had to start from scratch, just like an organic race. Please excuse the writing here, when this was written I was kind of working it out as I went. Appearance: They definitely wear clothes. However, their planet had no organic matter. This limited their wardrobes severely, but not as much as you may think. Now, metal is not flexible... to us. To Fixers, even fairly thick metal was easily pliable. What you’d need is a material that wouldn’t break even after a lot of wear and repeated bending and twisting.
Something like a mesh material, or woven metal strands. Woven metal yarn could be nice. I looked at pictures on google, and this is actually a lovely appearance. It also helps take away from the SHINY METAL appearance. That's the answer, then. Fixers wear wear knit clothing.
It doesn’t matter that metal clothing doesn’t keep them warm. As robots, they won’t want to stay warm; if anything, they’d want to keep as cold as possible, to keep from overheating. The clothing could be designed in such a way as to function as a heatsink and actually disperse heat.
What function would clothing serve, then? Why wear it? Well, if it’s a tight enough knit, it would help keep dust and grit from getting into their chassis. They might traditionally wear very long garments, and think of those who wear less as being reckless.
That's why they have a taboo against exposure and nudity. So, clothing would become very important to Fixers in a social way, too. Tight, form-fitting clothing would be the norm. That would function better as a heatsink.

This can be a great technique to create horror, too. When you don't directly describe the terrible thing, or you don't let the player get a good look at what's after them, they can let their imagination run wild. They can come up with something that is personally tailored to their own fears, so it really gets under their skin.
Amnesia used this technique a lot, and it's probably one of the most horrifying games ever. It'd be a good one to check out if you're trying this method yourself.

Very pretty, I love the soft colors. I'll defintely work on the dirt tiles. I'm not entirely happy with them, but I kinda rushed a few things to get a demo done by the end of Saturday.
This is what I wanted to post about, I'm glad you're still working on them. I don't think they look bad, but they do get repetitive. Have you considered making a few variants and mixing them up either by hand, randomly, or a mixture of both? That's a great place to add some flavor by adding unexpected features, like animals or fossilized spaceships or whatever.

This game looks great! Decrypting ciphers is one of my absolute favorite types of puzzles. I really hope you guys don't shy away from this, and make it a huge element of the game. You don't see it very often.
Can you shed any light on how you'll be incorporating the runes? Will it be something that's just for flavor, or will it be part of the gameplay/puzzle solving?

This is right up my alley. My favorite part of games like FFT and Disgaea is recruiting newbies and growing them over the course of the game. Is there going to be a class-change system, or are characters locked into their class? Anyway, it's really looking good, Charlie. Love the art. I really hope you do consider Android, there aren't enough TRPGs on there. (and maybe ouya, too )
