1  Developer / Art / Re: How much could I reasonably expect to pay for this character? on: October 12, 2015, 06:34:32 AM
Thank you for the advice.

I should have clarified, I am making a turn based battle RPG (similar to the old 2D Final Fantasy games), so the character would not be walking or jumping etc, they would just have a few different attack animations.

Apologies if I don't embed this properly, I'm doing this from my phone.

I'm curious how much I could reasonably expect to pay for this character including the brief animation (ignore the background).

More importantly how much could I reasonably expect to pay for the same character with 5 different animations of the same quality / complexity.

If you do not feel comfortable telling me publicly please feel free to private message me. Thank you!
3  Developer / Business / Re: How to release free copies of my priced game on iOS on: October 11, 2015, 02:04:55 PM
Thanks for the info, I guess I'll just have to buy them as gifts for backers. I'll make a small loss on each one but that'll do I suppose.
4  Developer / Business / How to release free copies of my priced game on iOS on: October 10, 2015, 08:12:20 PM
Good afternoon, so my question is about releasing my game on Android and iOS.

I am going to have a Kickstarter for my game, and wanted to have a reward tier where backers can get a free copy of the game (the price of purchasing the game has not been finalized, but for example lets say its $4)

However, after some research it appears Apple will not allow developers to have a system for giving away some copies of a priced game for free (or if they do, its only around 50 copies for reviews and testing).

My second idea therefore is to have system where only KS backers can get the game early at a discounted price ($1) and then I increase the price after 2 weeks to $4 for general release. Is this possible?

My third idea is to have a special menu screen in game for KS backers where they can enter a promo code I give them to get refunded the price of the game (or partial price of the game). Is this possible?

One final idea is to have a demo of the game downloadable for free, and after some point players have to pay for the full version of the game to continue, unless you are a backer and then you can enter a code I send you instead...

So far I think that's the best option.
Or are there other methods? Thank you for your time!
5  Community / DevLogs / What I'm Working On - 2D Monster Collection RPG on: March 22, 2015, 02:33:06 PM
Good morning all,

I realized it has been a long time since I have shared the progress of my first game project, Necromancer, The Fight For Life.

A 2D monster collection RPG. Mechanically almost identical to the old Pokemon games, but with a heavier story, everyone is a necromancer instead of a Pokemon trainer, and the world is overrun with undead instead of Pokemon. Also the battles are 3 minions vs 3 minions, so more like an old Final Fantasy style battle system.

What has successfully been introduced since December:
Touch controls.
Options menu for audio.
World Map.
Minion fusing.
Better battle pacing.
A Pocket Necronomicon (like a Pokedex, where information is revealed as new undead are encountered and caught).

Almost all the features are in place, the main elements that need to be solidified are:
The quest and story progression system.
The save and load system.

Other than that I just need some pixel artists to replace my amateur sprites and textures, fix the bugs, and then decide what chunk of the story to build for the demo. Then comes the real hard part- balancing!

When that is all in place, we'll be having a nice juicy Kickstarter (with a small goal, just to improve the art even more).
If you have any thoughts please let me know.

6  Community / Townhall / Kickstarter for Necromancer, The Fight For Life (Monster Collection RPG) on: May 21, 2013, 01:02:26 PM
Today my Kickstarter for Necromancer, The Fight For Life launched!

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/886856262/necromancer-the-fight-for-life

Necromancer, The Fight For Life is a 2D old-school monster collection RPG. Collect, train and battle over 150 undead minions in a shattered world full of stories and characters in what will be the perfect storm of Pokemon and Final Fantasy.

I am so excited, but I need so much help. I am doing this all alone other than generous support from my concept artists. So please visit, and if you do not wish to donate I would be eternally grateful if you would help me spread this around. Exposure will be the life or death of this project and any word-of-mouth you can provide would be everything to me.

I have a comprehensive website, story, game play showcase and blog.

All the best!

Thank you for being honest, I will be more explicit that the turning into a doll incident is a mistake due to panic and rashness.

I was considering making Alex a usable minion later in the game when her character is more stable, but as the focus if the game is to restore her to full life I think that might be a conflict of interest. I may have some one-off dramatic moment when she leaps into battle to save Harper...

I am glad I could give you a little laugh!

Good afternoon, I finally feel like I have something worth sharing for my game Necromancer, The Fight For Life.

The game will be a monster collecting / training / battling RPG, similar to Pokemon but with a much deeper setting and story.

If you are interested in learning more or giving feedback on my writing so far please follow this link for the opening act-
http://www.necromancergame.com/story/plot/plot.html

However please substitute the initial narrator v.o for this:

--------
For generations, the world of Nevera has been a dark and shattered place. Long ago, a great number of wizards, magicians and sorcerers, discovered powers over life and death.

Consuming and corrupting, the use of these abilities devastated the land, and those who wielded them were called, Necromancers.

Many used these powers to seek tyranny, destruction and immortality, by the most terrible means. Horrendous wars were fought, alliances forged and territories claimed, irreparably misshaping the world.

Now, hordes of undead roam the land like wild beasts, and more Necromancers than ever pursue even greater power. One of the last small places in the world which retains some sense of serenity, will suffer a calamity, and give rise to one who will alter all Nevera, and life itself.
-----------

Thank you for you time.

P.s. I know I use many RPG tropes, for example waking up late for an event, hometown being destroyed, older wiser mentor helping discover new powers. They are deliberate homages to my favorite stories. Enjoy!

Good morning,

My name is Dan, my main skill is writing and I am trying my hand at game design as a hobby and learning experience. Trying to teach myself a little of everything- art, digital art, design, HTML, C++, marketing, and just seeing what I am naturally best at or enjoy the most.

My first big project is called Necromancer, The Fight for Life. It is a Pokemon style monster capturing / training/ battling game but using all undead.

You can see some of what I have do far at www.necromancergame.com
There is some early art, story, script, blog and so on. I plan on being very active on the forum and hope I can be useful here too!
