I don't know if it's fancy, but I've spent time at least making it clear and easy to read. Mine is game centric, at www.arelitecore.com.

I also have my personal website at www.dragonslumber.com, but I don't think the design came across as nicely. Still, I'm satisfied with both of them, I'm a programmer, not a visual designer so I think I fended well for myself.

I doubt that anyone reads these, but as it is customary...

Peace in to all, my name is Kevin Giguere and I am the pillar of Dragon Slumber, an indie dev studio of 1 which relies on contracted artists to produce games. Personally, I am responsible for all the non visual, non audio work, so programming, designing, producing, marketing, writing and the likes.

I am working on my first full fledged game, Arelite Core, which can be seen atww.arelitecore.com. It's a JRPG which takes inspiration from SNES titles, but then goes in to bring in more modern tropes like custom stances, a different method of magic, weapon forging and more. I've been working on it for over 2½ years, and have been hiring contractors, some of them from this forum, since Jan 2013. I'm hoping to see a release in 2015, and in the meantime am planning a reveal video in the upcoming weeks and a PAX EAST presence next year.

That's about it, peace out!
43  Jobs / Offering Paid Work / [PAID] Character sprite artist for JRPG game, 64x128 characters on: September 06, 2014, 08:37:45 PM
Please read this ad in full before applying, in order to ensure that you are able to do the work.
Hi.  My name is Kevin Giguère and I'm the founder of Dragon Slumber, an indie game development company.  I have 10 years programming experience, 3 of those years being spent in a small game development company as a programmer which I had to leave due to downsizing.

For the past 2 years, I have been working on Arelite Core, a commercial JRPG styled game for Windows, which mixes traditional design with a modern presentation.  The game was developped from the ground up and aims to take the best of old games, like Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger, and mix it with modern day design sensibilities.  You can discover more about the game at www.arelitecore.com.

Who I'm looking for
I am looking for an artist to create character sprites for the game.  I already have about 25% of the game's sprites produced already, so the artist must be able to match the style of what was already created, both from the visual and animation perspective. These sprites are typically around 64x128px natively and character walks are 3 frames per side.  Note that the game has already a lot of visual assets like monsters, character sprites, battle effects and backgrounds.  You can find examples of the character sprites at www.arelitecore.com/images/sprites.png.

Relevant examples of your work will be required.  Before I hire anyone, I will need to ensure they can do the job.

More about the game
For this JRPG, I am aiming for about 10-12 hours of gameplay.  There are 6 playable characters, with an animation range around similar to Final Fantasy VI (ie, 3rd person fights with sprites and emotion animations during story).  We have well over 100 unique monsters planned, as well as visual variations on already established monsters (a goblin with a mask for example).  Stylistically, we're aiming towards Final Fantasy VI, a slightly gritty style, mature themes and all that.  It's also our baseline for the visuals, battle presentation and so forth.

And finally
Since this is a self financed project and still getting ready for a kickstarter, I am only able to pay 8 USD per animation frame at this time, which will be paid regularly according to the work provided.  This job offer will be open until September 21th, please don't apply after that date.  You may contact me at any time by e-mail at [email protected], or by Skype at ds_kevingiguere.  Those two methods will be the only methods of communcation accepted for the job.

I look forward to hearing from you.

For this JRPG, I am aiming for about 10-12 hours of gameplay. There are 6 playable characters, with an animation range around similar to Final Fantasy VI (ie, 3rd person fights with sprites and emotion animations during story). We have an estimated 30 tilesets required, and over 100 fully animated monsters. Stylistically, we're aiming towards Final Fantasy VI, a slightly gritty style, mature themes and all that. 45  Jobs / Offering Paid Work / [PAID] Character sprite artist sought on: October 11, 2013, 02:23:08 PM
Hi. My name is Kevin Giguère and I'm the founder of Dragon Slumber, an indie game development company.  Our website is at www.dragonslumber.com.   My team and I are working on a large scale JRPG project, and we need your help.

-- The job description
I am looking for a freelancing character sprite artist. I am working with large tiles, 64x64, and I am looking for someone to make characters 1x2 tiles (so about 55x96).  Walk animations will be 3 frames, 1-2-3-2.  While I don't have any sprite to submit for example, I can provide other in game art to show the level of quality I'm looking for.  For the first batch of assets, we will go with about 300 frame of animation covering multiple characters and move from there.  The main characters will have some concept art but you will be required to design many of the villagers and other less important characters.  Note that this is a side game like Final Fantasy VI, walking is sideways, up and down, and battles are seen from the side.

This is a monster sprite in the game, to show the style we're using: http://dragonslumber.com/images/002_Goblin.png

Exemples of the style of sprites I like:

-- Summary of the project
Dragon Slumber is developping a full fledged Japanese style RPG, for release on PC over the Internet and Steam. The game is aiming for about 8-10 hours of gameplay. There are 6 playable characters, with an animation range around similar to Final Fantasy VI (ie, 3rd person fights with sprites and emotion animations during story). We have an estimated 30 tilesets, 80 characters overall (PCs and NPCs) and ~90 unique enemies and bosses. Stylistically, we're aiming towards Final Fantasy VI, a slightly gritty style, mature themes and all that. It's also our baseline for the visuals, battle presentation and so forth.

-- What we have so far
About 33% of monsters/bosses have been produced.  We also have the UI about 90% complete and a few backgrounds during battles have been produced.  The story has its second draft written, game design is complete and we have a few map layouts done.  I'm responsible for all the programming aspects as well as game design, game script, map making and basically everything that is not visual assets or audio assets in general.

--The financial aspect
This is a contractual position and will be paid according to established milestones.  I do make a payment upfront, and then at regular intervals afterwards, to be determined in our contract.

You may contact me at any time by e-mail at [email protected], or by Skype at ds_kevingiguere. I do not regularly check this forum so I discourage contact through here. I look forward to hearing from you.
46  Jobs / Offering Paid Work / [PAID] Looking for an battle effect animation artist for a JRPG on: September 08, 2013, 04:19:49 PM
Hi. My name is Kevin Giguère and I'm the founder of Dragon Slumber, an indie game development company. I have 10 years programming experience, 3 of those years being spent in a small game development company as a programmer which I had to leave due to downsizing.

The project
The game I am working on is a JRPG in the style of Final Fantasy 6, with higher resolution assets. For instance, our tiles are 64x64 rather than the 32x32 or even 16x16 found in other games. It's a fairly big scoped game, aiming towarda 8-10 hours of gameplay, runs on a custom engine which enables a lot of interesting features like forging items and just generally customising it to my desire.

Who I'm looking for
I am looking for an artist to create at least 25 battle animations, that is the animations seen during battle, such as a sword swipe or fire blazing.  Some of them are simple, like an impact on a monster, some are more complicated like full screen effects.  The game runs in 1280x720, player characters are 64x128 and monsters go from 130x130 to 550x550.   I know the basics of what I need, such as "ice spell", but I'll also require the artist to bring some of his own creativity to the project.  And of course, it needs to integrate well with the assets I already have. I will be able to provide some sample monsters, backgrounds, and the UI, to help guide you.  You can already find some samples on my website, at www.dragonslumber.com

And finally
Payment is to be discussed, and is likely to be paid about half and half (half on sign, half upon final delivery). This offer will be open until September 15th, so please don't apply after that date. You may contact me at any time by e-mail at [email protected], or by Skype at ds_kevingiguere.  Please include a relevant sample of your work, as well as any pricing information you can provide.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Who I'm looking for
I am looking for an artist to create 10 backgrounds for the battles.  Backgrounds will be 1330x770 and set up like in FF6, with a “horizon line” at the top.  Actually, battles happen like FF6, monsters on one side, players on the other with the hud all around, so you'll be able to use that as a setup reference..  I'm looking to make the environments interesting, but not cumbersome.  And of course, it needs to integrate well with the assets I already have.   I will be able to provide some sample monsters, and the UI, to help guide you.

50  Jobs / Offering Paid Work / Re: [PAID] JRPG game looking for 2d artist on: February 07, 2013, 04:29:23 PM
The previous artist had good enough references, but when came time to work he was sloppy and ultimately did very little in the month or so we've worked together.  His biggest contribution was a playable character which looked halfway between a sketch and a final piece, felt uninspired.  Ultimately we both agreed that he just wasn't made for this project.

As for payment, I pay by the commission, so I could do it individually or for full sprite sheets or something like that.  We can work something out.
51  Jobs / Offering Paid Work / [PAID] JRPG game looking for 2d artist on: February 06, 2013, 03:00:39 PM
Hi.  My name is Kevin Giguère and I'm the founder of Dragon Slumber, an indie game development company.  I have 10 years programming experience, 3 of those years being spent in a small game development company as a programmer which I had to leave due to downsizing.

Summary of the project
Dragon Slumber is looking for an artist to help develop a full fledged Japanese style RPG, for release on PC over the Internet and Steam.  We are looking for someone to give an art direction to the game, for elements like environments, character sprites, battle animations, menus and so forth.  It would be great if the artist could work on every aspect of the game, but if you're specialized in one field, we still want to hear from you.

Game scope
For this JRPG, I am aiming for about 8-10 hours of gameplay.  There are 6 playable characters, with an animation range around similar to Final Fantasy VI (ie, 3rd person fights with sprites and emotion animations during story).  We have an estimated 30 tilesets required, and ~90 enemies and bosses.  Stylistically, we're aiming towards Final Fantasy VI, a slightly gritty style, mature themes and all that.  It's also our baseline for the visuals, battle presentation and so forth.

Who we're looking for
For this project, we are looking for either freelancers by commission or someone to share profits with.  Pay are to be discussed in person.  We need every type of visual artist: sprite animators, menu designers, battle backgrounds, static enemies, battle animations and tilesets.

What we have so far
Due to a conflict with the previous artist, we currently have no visual elements available for this game.  The crew a sound designer working contractually on music and sound effects, and myself.  I'm responsible for all the programming aspects as well as game design, game script, map making and basically everything that is not visual assets or audio assets in general.

The game is currently a few locations, a complete first draft of the main script along with a gaming engine I've programmed in XNA.  We also have a few songs for locations like forest and caverns, with battle theme being worked on.

And finally
You can find a demo of the jrpg engine being developed for this project at http://www.dragonslumber.com.  Please note that none of the visual assets, nor the storyline are relevant to this project.  Also, the fighting has been changed to a 3rd person perspective since this iteration.

You may contact me at any time by e-mail at [email protected], or by Skype at ds_kevingiguere.  I look forward to hearing from you
