1  Jobs / Collaborations / Working game looking for artist and composer + full expenses paid trip to a gdc! on: December 02, 2016, 04:09:33 AM
Hello!

I'm Arian, a professional programmer with years of experience in webdev and gamedev. Over the last few months I've been lost, so I decided to make an indie game! I only started about 3 days ago, but I already have a working game/prototype! Please pm me so I can send you a link (it's playable in the browser, so no need to download!)

The game I'm making is a puzzle game based on a very popular game in the past that has not been rehashed yet, and I believe it can be a big hit if executed right.

My problem is I won't be able to focus on the game's art and music, so I'm looking for someone who is willing to collaborate for the next month (even part time, as I'm working part time on this too). I'm looking for a collaborator because I really believe in this game and I want someone who I can bounce ideas with as the game can be brimming with personality. For reference, the art style that I think will work greatly for the game is something similar to Pudding Monsters:

and or Cut the Rope

Also, a great thing about this is if it goes right we may have an opportunity to fly over to gdc 2017!

I'm a programmer with years of experience, so you can count on this game being professionally done and not flaking out and becoming unfinished. We also have a tight schedule so feature creep will not be a problem for this game. Feel free to view my portfolio at http://arianv.com

Thank you! Please pm me if you want a link to the game!
2  Community / Writing / Re: To aspiring (game) writers: Storytelling Course on: December 25, 2013, 05:07:07 PM
I disagree. I definitely see how it transcends to other media (like tv series and web shows). Saying that they are unrelated to storytelling is also like saying games are unrelated to it.

Seriously, I expected tigsource to be marginally better.

Fact of the matter is, if you're bitching like this, that means you ARE an amateur, period. And you did say that this was your first game project.

Just continue on ahead. You'll meet lots of people, with different personalities and all. Some might stick around for a while. Some may stick around without really doing anything. Also remember, people might (god forbid) get into accidents.

And Some might be the best guy you will ever know.

P.S. like miguelito said NDAs aren't a sign of anything. However, for this scale, and no pay, NDAs are a sign of low experience.

Make restarts (incredibly) quick and painless, like Super Meat Boy
6  Community / Writing / To aspiring (game) writers: Storytelling Course on: December 06, 2013, 01:09:18 AM
Hey guys, Iversity is offering a free online course Future of Storytelling

The quality is top-notch, and I seriously recommend it to aspiring game designers and writers.

(You can skip to Chapter 6 which tackles storytelling in video games, but it’s interesting as a whole so I would also check the other chapters if I were you)

In CS50 (a harvard course available online), we literally start from scratch - http://scratch.mit.edu/

IMHO the best way to get into programming while making a game is through scratch (http://scratch.mit.edu/) Made by the guys at MIT and the way Harvard teaches Computer Science, I think it's damn good - it teaches you what you need to know (code logic, if, for, stuff, syntax, you'll learn how to program basically) in a WYSIWYG environment.

And it has a 2.0 version now I believe! It allows you to make vector games and just massive feature boost all around. I'm jelly to future users Tongue

Hello! I didn't know there was an obligatory introduce yourself thread  Cheesy

I grew up in videogames. Literally. Like, I grew up in a tiny PS1. My body parts coming out of the cd-rom. jk

I'm a programmer, though not currently actively involved in any projects. Was actually looking at the collab and unpaid works threads!
