21  Community / Creative / Re: indie + online multiplayer games = why so rare? on: April 18, 2010, 02:10:17 PM
Well I have this project running called Rage Effect ( http://ragefx.com/ ), I haven't been
working on it that much lately. And it's more or less abandoned ( still played by few French
people) and reason why it is so, is mostly because my game is in flash and flash with it's
stratus thing is one hell of a bitch, almost 70% of my users experience problems with it and
it's just IMPOSSIBLE to fix, the other problem is providing content from time to time which
gets really boring.

But now I no longer have any intentions on making another MP game since it gets boring after
a while, which is why I started making single player games. All that just because I want to
tell a story and not entertain my players.

That's the main reason why indies make singleplayer games instead of multiplayer ones, they
want to tell their own story, show off their world they wanted to create ( or created ) and all.

What is it?

Rage Effect is a free multiplayer online fighting game that you can play inside your browser.
It a small idea which expanded to a whole game, all thanks to flash 10 and it's new service
called Adobe Stratus.

The game itself is something that you can play anytime without having to worry about the lvl60 paladins
waiting for you to have your ass kicked. Play it from your work, school, cybercafé or any place which has
a PC and an internet connection. The game itself is less than 300kb !

What do I need to play?

You will just need the latest version of flash ( you may already have it installed ), either way you can get Flash here !
Then all you have to do is press the big red "play now" button ( No registrations required ! )

So time for some screens, maybe?

Even better , a VIDEO ! ( bit outdated but still pictures the gameplay )

(some player's video recording - I think this one shows more features I implemented )

Wow , great, another ripoff of Soldat

Heard that many times, but honestly I made this game before even knowing the existence of Soldat.
We just both got the same idea for the aiming mechanic , that's all. And also No , he didn't invent that game mechanic.

By the way, can you play Soldat from your browser, eh? =P

Yes, I'm new to this forum but it doesn't mean I'm gonna leave
anytime soon, just wanted to share my creation with the rest of
the indie community =)

Anyways, enjoy !

Hello there
32  Community / Townhall / Re: The Obligatory Introduce Yourself Thread on: December 11, 2009, 08:01:33 AM
Hi there my fellow indie developers

I'm just another indie dev, who loves making games =)

Hmmmm about myself errr...
I'm not good with introductions and all, and writing lots of text isn't really my thing
so I'll try to write this in a concise way

I grew up loving art and
games, and when I reached the age of 10
I started making some lame applications. So
I downloaded Visual Basic and made several lame
applications. After that I bought Dark Basic, cause
I got seduced by the box art and description. Dark Basic
was so horrible that I couldn't even fallow their tutorials
so I stopped using it and promised myself to never touch it again.
Then I discovered the coolness of blitz3D, it was so easy and fun to
code, I bought the full version and made several games which I never
released publicly. After blitz3D I started developing in php, made a whole
text-based game called "Technocolonium", after that I learned flash, then Ajax
( made a game based on WoW called 'WoW Islands' which I later sold ), later Java
( made a Tiberian Sun like 2D RTS ),and after that,I made an online flash game using
the latest flash and their new RTMFP called RageEffect and now I'm finnaly programming
in C# remaking my 2D flash game. Hey look, my text has a nice sweet formatting, hopefully
it will distract you from my lame badly written story, anyways time to end this text with a dot.

Ah I see you're done reading my awful introduction, here enjoy these sweet screenshots
of my multiplayer game RageEffect. They're kind of old but it doesn't matter =)
