Could you try doing the outlines by making outmost pixels (foreground) a bit darker? That wouldn't mess with pixel resolutions.

I want Day Three.
Could do another christmas-themed NES demake, kinda like last year. Or not.

But I learned one important lesson last year:
When jamming Don't ever have hitboxes changing size. EVER. Too many bugs, impossibe to fix.

I have been thinking about a game in which the protagonist is a healer and not a fighter. Most games have protagonists that solve problems violently or through acrobatics/athletics. I imagine something like how a healer works in games like MMOs, where they can be completely designed around protection and healing without having to worry about combat skills to complete game objectives because the other classes deal with them.

I don't know quite how it would work, though. Or, rather, how it would ever be fun. Ho hum.

Seeing as most people find pure healing classes to be boring/stressful/frustrating, you'd be doubly compounded as to how to make it appealing.

Best to just make a healer/damage hybrid, that way the player can do some damage as well as try and keep allies up (without making it too stressful, of course).
Or perhaps it could be a commander/healer, being able to give simple orders to the group you protect?

Last build had kinda strange AI bug. I could get a horde of cactuars to surround Forchan, and somehow, they just got stuck there against a wall staring at it. After that I could just backstab them one by one. Not sure if that's not possible since you've tweaked AI this build.

Bumpitybumpbump.

[EDIT]
Oh I hadn't noticed a new forum game has started - this can wait, if there were any participants in the first place

About the artist issue; You could go the hardcore way and procedurally generate your sprites.

A large crowd is gathered at the Central Square of city called Carvin. Mayor Geeze stands on the podium. Crowd remains silent.

"Citizens of Carvin! Our once beloved, peaceful city has now organized crime. I have worked hard in attempt to keep our image as the only crime free city in Europe, but now, that image exists no more. Luckily, there are two distinct groups of criminality, so let's wipe 'em out when they're at their weakest, you know, under competition and pressure? Everyone, step forward if you want to work for a better, crime-free tomorrow!

Okay, this is my attempt to host these things. Let's see how it works!
INFO
RULES:
  • No direct quotes (Unless stated othervise)
  • All private messages go through me, this is purely for gameplay purposes AND my entertainment
  • Inactivity is not allowed and really suspicious, so say something!
  • Dead people don't talk.

Game overview
There will be three main alliances and rest are neutral.
2 "Mafias": They win when they wipe out the other "mafia" out, and have a majority over council.
Council: Council is appointed by the mayor with intent to destroy organized crime. They win when they have majority over mafias combined.
Citizens: Living citizen is a winning citizen.

Traditional day/night cycle exists. Voting each day is not necessary, in case of a tie, lychned person is choosed randomly, and in case of zero votes, no lynches. And don't worry, skipping some lynches shouldn't prolong the case too much.
Target number of players is between 17-19, but more is okay, less than 15 is not.
List of citizens:
  • Inanimate
  • Player 3
  • Fraxcell

Bravo!

I made it to the very end.
Who hosts next one?

[EDIT] Or actually I could do the next one, as I have just come up with a good idea.

"Here's some things I know. Fission Mailed is one attractive foreigner"
Quote
He is able to seduce one other player. Both of them will from then on be partners; their roles’ abilities – and whether either of you is a werewolf – will be revealed to eachother. If they are the last two standing, they both win automatically. If either of them dies, the other dies as well.
"So I wonder, who his partner is?"

"And Wade actually was a policeman. One night I found a policeman's badge and handcuffs hidden in the end-table."
Quote
He can, once a day, reveal your role’s ability in order to arrest one person, invalidating their vote that day and their ability that night. If they are a werewolf, this will be revealed incontrovertibly when they transform that night. If not, they will be released and will be immune to arrest from that point on.

And I too vote for Fission Mailed.

"I CAN'T STAND THIS ANYMORE!!!! WHY DID CROWE HAD TO CHOOSE MY PLACE???

So, as there's only 5 of us remaining. I might as well say something.

Fission Mailed, you said you have been doing some research. HOW EXACTLY? I WANT TO KNOW."

Bonjour again mon amis. I am still unsure as all of you of who the identity of the lycanthrope is. I have been doing some research but have not been able to come up with any irrefutable evidence.

Can't really support different builds whilst the game is in Beta. Too much work.

If you want to play it downloaded then do the following:

Download this page:

http://redrogue.net/game.swf

Download the desktop projector:

http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/updaters/11/flashplayer_11_sa.exe
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/updaters/11/flashplayer_11_sa.app.zip
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/updaters/11/flashplayer_11_sa.i386.tar.gz

(links are all from this page: http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html)

Drag the swf to the projector application and it will run on your desktop.

Yeah, probably it's too much work but you could consider it after release.
But hey, you have source available so I could do it by myself. Would it be acceptable?

I'm kind of interested, how much of the file size is taken by sounds and music? Sometimes when I'm in a hurry I might not want to wait that much for the loading, so soundless version could be something nice.

Fixed the circular logic. Wizard

Okay, now I managed to freeze the menu.

How to reproduce (I guess):
- get Kill a troll quest from altar. (Maybe any quest will do)
- Navigate to quests submenu and select that quest.
- Complete the quest
- Try to navigate to that same point in menu again.
- The current selected thing in quest menu is now a empty spot, and when I enter quest menu. Menu stops working.

[EDIT]
Also to add to the teleport trap thing, when minion got hit by the arrow, I couldn't unfreeze the game.

 [EDIT2]
Except by sleeping

[EDIT3]
Or not, sleeping doesn't fix it always.
38  Community / DevLogs / Re: Red Rogue on: August 26, 2012, 11:23:43 PM
Getting hit by teleport traps freezes the game for me. I can use the menus and do stuff, but actual game screen does not refresh. AND if I use some action from menu, screen refreshes but freezes again. I'm not sure if it's machine dependant, as I'm running the game at school.

Oh wait.
Teleport traps won't teleport, and the game unfreezes when I have walked far enough from the place where freezing happened.

"Didn't you just tell us that Nix was a lycanthrope, and yet, after his death, SirNiko was mauled."

"So it seems to me, that there's atleast one more alive. I didn't mean to say there's only one..."
