Hey derek, I've been looking through some of these articles today for reference, and I think you need to update Dustforce. As they updated their article on their site and have done way better than indicated in the initial post.

Valve is a business and Steam is a shop... It's not about fairly showing the best games it's about selling the most games.. They highlight(front page) games based on chance of making more money, cause Steam ultimately funds everything valve does. The sooner people stop thinking the Steam service is anything other than a really well run store front the better. They're only going to pick yo help you out If you're already on the up and they can make more money.
If you start to get a reasonably sized player base who are favorable they will look to bring more players in. If your game is winning awards they will piggy back these awards with front page time as you're going to be in the media a lot.. It's not rocket science.
Want to succeed on Steam, make a great game, then work you're arse off promoting it, It should be your second Job after being a developer, promote it everywhere till enough people know it's name, make videos, approach YouTube channels, media, as you get momentum you can get more media coverage and with more media coverage more places like steam will give it more weight when deciding front page games.
I'm still not sure about them getting rid of Green light, I find the App stores on Android and Apple absolutely Horrific places full of so much shite and shovel ware that finding anything good is a chore in itself. I'd rather it was hard to get on steam and then you have something to aim for and the reward of a solid uncrowded storefront when you make it there. I just worry that once pandoras box opens it might not be what everyone was expecting.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Took me a while before sharing our game with the forum, hopefully i wil be able to fine tune the game thanks to other fellow dev. I am really open to comments and critics as soon as they are constructive. If something is not clear or you think i should write more about the game please let me know. I apologize if my english is far from perfect but it's not my native language.
I'm currently in the same boat, I'm getting a build that's worth releasing to the public. I think you've set a good pace, get the game to a good state and then show people and tweak it I'll offer feedback as you're updates start to come in.

I'm quite glad I've waited now from all the posts from people who have played for decent amounts of time, It sounds like it has promise but no longevity which is a problem for a game like this where all the competitors produce hundreds of hours of game time for the player. I'll pick it up in the future though as I like the look and premise..

The reason I stopped playing Diablo 3 was I never got any loot I could use, so half the game became getting stuff you couldn't use and selling it on the AH to then buy slightly better gear for your character at massively over priced rates... I want useable loot god damn it I want to occasionally get an item that improves my build by a fair level and diablo failed to do that so i got bored, I hear it's better now but meh i have no desire to go back and find out..

Konidias was bang on.. Basically don't just spam everyone, do some research, find people who have a style you like, and approach them and offer them an earlier view than others. Tailor your approach so it's more personal If you can, I mean say you like how they do this and that and feel they might enjoy your game, and if they'd be interested you'd be happy to do a Q&A with them for example.

Jobs / Collaborations / Re: Looking For Partners

It annoys me how so many people will tell you to do it yourself rather than volunteer and help you. I know they mean well, but it takes more than programming to make a great game.
It's true that making games is the best way to learn how to make them, and the only way to build a portfolio is to start making games, but why can't those games be collaborative and not amateur demos?
That's my 2 cents. I'm unfortunately unable to help you. I, too, lack technical skills.
You'd be amazed how much work mentoring people can be, even when you take someone who's moderately experienced and has a good grasp of the fundamentals mentoring takes a lot of work and effort.. And the simple fact is, most of what you need to learn first is heavily tutorial or book based, so most senior people want to see your commitment and effort first in going out and finding resources. Most people who are on these sites have their own projects and know from experience how many people come to sites like these and go "I got a great Idea!!! work with me" then they get bored and any time invested is wasted.. Pay your dues, learn the basics of your trade and then gradually get more ambitious, making games is really really hard, learning on the job can be good it can also be extremely frustrating and kill desire... People say to do these little tasks because they're the best way to learn programming, if you asked me what to do for art I'd say pick up a pencil and pad and go draw real things from real life once i see you do that for 6months I would think your serious about learning art.... Don't take it personally, if you want to learn this in a nice structured environment go to uni and learn it.
