http://cthulhu32.kraln.com/Spuck/LevelCreator/From my days of working on Spuck. It was the start of a level creator where you would fill in the hit boxes, and it would automatically fill it in with tiles. There was also support for multiple layers and objects, but I don't think I'm going to post that cause it has SQL integration and I don't have a server hosting right now. Usually I'm lazy and use Mappy for most 2d games. Ideally if you're making a large game its best to make your own level editor though.

next i told phubans about it and he thought the idea was pretty funny and said he wanted to fake his death for april fool's but then decided against it since that's low "even for him"
Instead I went on IRC as "rinkuhero" and tried to tell them that "phubans" got a job for Nintendo of Japan, but they quickly figured out that I wasn't you (Dragonmaw keeps IRC logs dating 3 years back) Your first mistake was talking about Phubans as Rinku.

Lucipher (271) US Servers. I was rank 7 in bronze before the reset, but I haven't had any time to play matches recently because of school. I'll start adding peoples on here, I'm fairly new to the game so might be good practice to any silver/gold players.

Pop quiz: the authentic Zelda 2 cartridge I bought from a speciality games store a few weeks ago cost me $25, and it still works great with my old NES.
25 dollars? Was it the gold or the grey cartridge? Also, I go on NES cartridge buying binges on ebay. Just look up "Lot of NES" and you can usually find 10-15 carts for < $20, or 3-5 carts for < $10. I've got some childhood favorites that way including Milon's Secret Castle, Mighty Bombjack, and Little Nemo

another thing is that even though the money doesn't directly go to those developers (very few companies give their developers royalties) what is at stake is their jobs: if a game doesn't sell well, the people who worked on that game are often fired
This isn't true for companies that due contract development. Its up to the publisher and the development company they work with to determine royalties (very rare), wages, time-lines, etc. For example, any Disney game you see made is contracted out to a third-party developer. So really if you pirate games that are not directly created and published by the developer, or include some type of royalty system along the way, you are never hurting the original developer. I believe Game Developer magazine talks a lot about how to break into these contract bidding systems. Many companies have connections with publishers they have worked with before as well to get future contracts with a solid pay-rate. Good examples of this: http://www.pipeworks.com/products/games/http://www.griptonite.com/games/http://www.otherocean.com/products.htmlThe only legit argument I've ever heard for not pirating old ROMs is because its illegal to download and distribute copyrighted material. However, with no way to actually tell which companies are still even in business anymore, the copyright on old games is complete b.s. anyway. They teach law degrees that are pretty much nothing but learning how broken copyright is and how to protect your company when someone finds a loophole or challenges you. On a side note, I got permission from one of the programmers of the old arcade game Nibbler to make a homebrew port :D He probably doesn't actually hold any rights to the game, but because the original company doesn't exist I'll take his word over an invisible hand.

I've been talking to my brother a lot over Skype the last few days. He says Tokyo is doing okay, people are freaking out but all of his friends are okay. A lot of areas still do not have electricity and water. He and his gf went to the supermarket a few days ago and all the instant ramen is gone, they had to buy canned tuna just in case. He just finished his contract at the school he works for so he doesn't have to go any closer to the radiation, but its still freaking him out. He also said he had to learn the word "houshasen" which means radiation.

My brother lives in Hirai, Tokyo and he said it was pretty freaky. He's fine, his girlfriend was working but she made it home okay. Basically all the rail-stations stopped and traffic is completely blocked, so he said it looked like a festival outside with all the people walking 2-3 hours home. It sounds like the tsunamis are the biggest problem right now, because they'll basically grab cars on the road and drag them out to sea. Cell phones are out right now in Tokyo, but everyone has the internet.

I was personally responsible for discovering a bug in IE8 a few weeks ago. There's a flag, DOCHOSTUIFLAG_ENABLE_REDIRECT_NOTIFICATION, that sets a flag in the IE web control telling IE to signal a BeforeNavigate2 on every redirect including 302s. Apparently this works fine in IE7 and IE9 beta, but someone introduced a bug into IE8 that returns from the redirect statement too early and never fires this. I had a sr. engineer from Microsoft confirm the bug and tell me it would take 3-6 months of intensive testing to get it fixed in their source, but that we should just wait for IE9 to come out. Microsoft IE dev team, you've made my life harder.

I had an idea last night for naming this project "Powernauts", and Destral suggested "Powernoughts" which is much more appropriate and awesome.
Also, working on the start of the application, so far its SDL and C++, not sure what I am going to use for the network layer. The main goal is getting gameplay up and running in the next week or so so we can really crack down and make it fun. I'm going to try to keep it cross-compatible as long as I can but the networking layer might break that. Right now the focus will be Win32, so probably Winsock2 for now.

> Bears & Chairs
A room full of bears are playing musical chairs, which can only wind up in mortal combat when it goes down to the last chair. Either use a betting system, fighting system, or mini-game system when the bears go 1v1, but with a large group of people it could be very fun.

I am looking for an artist/designer for a collaboration on this one. I've thrown around a couple ideas before the compo started but I'm open to just about anything that can get done in a month. I have some experience with networking systems, the hardest part for me is coming up with something that is hits the fun mark. I mostly code in C++ but I have a large amount of experience in AS3/Flash so either is fine. I'm interested in a 2D project, but it does not have to be low-res sprite work PM me with your previous work or just doodles you've done and I'll shoot you my MSN/Gmail/AIM name. Or find me on the #tigirc IRC channel and bug me. My previous work: Spuck (Gamma4 entry)Target: Terror Wii portUltraviolent Moon Patrol (unfinished tig compo entry)

Can we create a stickied collaborate thread or something? I'd like to find an artist for this one so I can focus on getting a game actually finished.

Sticking with the NES era, lets see how few words we can use.
1. Flies, punching.
2. You are asleep.
3. Cannot kill death.
4. Money mallard.
You got 3 & 4. I'm off to sleep so I'll check to see on 1 and 2 tomorrow morning. 1. Shatterhand? 2. SMB2? 3. Gauntlet? 4. Duck Tales? These are too vague, but I just said the first thing that came to mind... Probably all wrong #3 and #4 are correct. #1 and #2 are still up for grabs. 2. Little Nemo the Dream Master ? Sorry was up in the mountains this weekend and didn't check the forums when I got back last night. Yeah, #2 is Nemo Second hint for #1 that will make it way too easy: Amphibian brawler.
