Quicksand-S - Thanks for the great feedback.

I'll have a look at improving things over the new few weeks, including adding sound and music.

The URL changing is mostly for debugging purposes so in theory when you press back it takes you back through the levels you've played, but I should probably just remove it.

If you go back to the link you should be able to resume from where you left off, there's a whole host of other mechanics like large blocks, sliding one, ones that switch places with you etc...

Monsterkillu - Thanks for letting me know, I'm sorry you're having trouble. I always test on Chrome, could you please open the Javascript console (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/66420/how-do-you-launch-the-javascript-debugger-in-google-chrome) and private message me the log? The only issue I've seen on Chrome is people with NoScript or similar extensions blocking some or all of the javascript.

I'd like some gameplay and difficulty feedback for Polyology.

You can just play it in a web browser (Chrome is most tested) by clicking http://polyology.webfactional.com/static/game.html and you'll need a keyboard for input.

I'd like to know...
  • Which levels you like and dislike (you can Rate levels in game with + & - keys in game)
  • Which mechanics you enjoy or hated?
  • Is the progression too slow, fast or just right?
  • If you could change one thing about the game would it be?

Currently the art is very much programmer art and the audio isn't finished but I'm working with some talented developers to get those fixed in the coming weeks. But I'd gladly receive feedback on any aspect of the game.

Thanks in advance,
Ben

Are you sure about jump?

Had another little play, I'm not sure about jump Smiley. Attacking while jumping stopped my momentum so I let go of the analogue stick. Now you've told me I see what you mean but it wasn't intuitive.

You can go quiet a distance jumping and attacking repeatedly (up to 3 times) - is that how you're meant to get the double-jump crystal at the start?

It's a nice little game, good fun.

Found the pacing a little slow at the start but got suitably frantic towards the end. Always good to have nice have those quieter moments after frantic tapping. I'd be tempted to add different difficulties as I'm sure some people enjoy the slow pace at the start, but it's not for me. Replaying it I'd like to skip to where it starts to become challenging.

Awesome game, love the limited shotgun cartridges and grenades. Totally worth a play if you're looking for something to test. Reminds me a lot of TowerFall Ascension.

And good questions on the web form.

Uploaded a lovely log file.

That's pretty cool, nice tutorial hints (particularly like the double jump speech bubble at the start) and lovely art style.

Found I died a fair bit which got frustrating toward the end, I'm sure a few more checkpoints (like when you break the crystals would help).

Few other bits of unsolicited feedback...
 - Found dark pools can get a bit lost against the background
 - Jump and attack feels strange (takes all momentum away from the player unlike Rayman or Smash Bros)
 - You can't look around while you're moving
 - Level 207 Link <1> to 203.3 you can just walk off the edge of the level and get stuck

Thanks for sharing!

Hi everyone,

My name is Ben Parbury and I'm a games programmer by trade (Free Radical Design, Crytek & Deep Silver Dambuster Studios) but have recently started dropped my hours to part time so I can develop games independently and attempt to make some kind of a living making interesting and varied games.

I'm a great believer in playtesting so I expect that's where I'll be spending most my time on here. If you want to harass me you can at [email protected] or http://twitter.com/GridlockBen

Thanks for listening and making this a thriving community!
