221  Player / General / Re: Indie Things You Like That Aren't Games on: July 18, 2010, 06:34:21 PM
Other than that, I think some of the best games I've played are the mainstream hits of my childhood and maybe a small handful of games from the past decade. It seems a bit annoying and ass-kissy when people cite indie games among their "favorite games of all time".
I think that people are not always being ass-kissy when they say that. For example out side of indie games I'm not really a big gamer. I mean once or twice a week I'll play a couple rounds of call of duty with my friends but other than that indie games are pretty much all I play.

Aside from that I don't really know any other indie things except for like one indie band. Other than that most I'm pretty mainstream.

Great game. I love the simple yet addictive concept. I've managed to get a 50% completion rate. I also love the menu. Something about scrolling over that jungle feels perfect. Nice game looking forward to seeing it finished.

Thanks for all the nice comments guys I hope I don't end up disappointing you. The game will reference mario but will be more canabalt-esque in gameplay style. Anyways here's a very basic demo of the movement.

20 Years Later

Description
Once again the princess has been kidnapped and you must save her. This used to be a lot easier when you were younger...
The game will be a side scrolling platformer of some sorts. Along the way the player will have to run, climb ladders and jump or grapple over enemies while battling his old age.

Yea congrats on that amazing number of games  Hand Metal Left Smiley Hand Metal Right
The game was hard for me and the collisions looked a little glitchy (thought that may be intentional). I manged to finish the first level but quit later on due to the lack of checkpoints. Overall decent little game and again congrats on your 200th game!

First of all I loved the old school graphics. The exploration style of the game was also nice and I would have loved to play more except for the fact that its too easy to speed out of control and hit a wall or an enemy. Unfortunately the speed issue made it unplayable for me after the fourth room. This has a lot of potential and I would love to play it more with a less slippery control scheme.

Thanks for the pm. It was a fun game and I manged to get about 1500. The only things I noticed were very minor such as that the message explaining how to shoot appeared after a couple of the bat onions(or whatever they are) had attacked me. The terrain also seemed to be moving a little too slowly for me(but it may be fine for other players). Overall fantastic game and I found it really fun(I really liked Turnabalt mode).

Aw man I wish I could play this game. I've actually downloaded an early version but the latest few haven't worked for me. When I run them I get this error at start up.
Code:

___________________________________________
ERROR in
action number 1
of Draw Event
for object LevelSelect:

Error in code at line 5:
   draw_text(room_width/2,room_height-40,"best: "+string(UberCont.best)+" crates: "+string(UberCont.crates)+" kills: "+string(UberCont.kills)+" deaths: "+string(UberCont.deaths))

at position 65: Unknown variable best

Otherwise the game looks sweet and I would love to see coop and random weapons.

Very nice game. It was hard but I was able to beat the first 50 levels(although it took like 90 minutes and 600 deaths). I got to hard level 3 and eventually quit. I liked the coloring and the blur. By the way what program did you use to create that voice? Its really a neat effect and adds a lot of atmosphere to the game.

I re-downloaded this today using the dropbox link and it worked. I likes the graphics and the procedural generation mode(even though I suck at it Tongue).

It opens, shows a loading bar, then gives me this notice Failed to load game data. File seems corrupt. Windows 7 64 bit Looks cool tho and I liked the original.

Some other upcoming competitions:
PyWeek is 03/28 - 04/04

LudumDare is a fairly large indie competition and from what I've seen it produces some great games.

Today I downloaded Adobe's Pixel Bender Toolkit(http://www.adobe.com/devnet/pixelbender/) and so far I have been very impressed. So what I want to know is what you think. Have you had problems with it, loved it, raged quit it? Discuss.
