Cobra called me a lot of names, which he continues to do, so I think there is some justification to the idea that "We don't take kindly to strangers in these parts."
You do realize that you're generalizing the attitude of a whole dang website based on how one person treated you, right? In all fairness I'm very willing to believe cobra hasn't been the nicest person to you, but that's still just one guy. And tigs isn't dead. It's declining, sure, but it's certainly not at the point where no one posts anymore. A dozen devlog entries get posted on a daily basis. Like fluff said, the forum just needs a bit of a facelift and it'll be fine.

Nice to see this is progressing steadily!
I've tried making scripting languages a few times but never really got to a point where I had something that was usable. maybe I just have to go through the baby steps of making an assembler first and then I'll be able to move on to higher level stuff. In any case, Apollo looks nice!

Faving a thread would just notify you of new posts in the same way that the "new unread posts" page currently does. It would replace that system. The number would also be visible to the thread OP, but not to the public. Same deal with likes/reactions, though the point with them is just to remove the friction of having to post a message in order to express an emotional reaction to another post.

how you guys feel about indie games as a hobby in this moment in time?
I feel that communities focusing on hobbyist gamedev have formed around other things, like PICO-8 for example. Also, the generally poor financial security of this political climate isn't very conducive to just doing things for fun.

Hmm, I like the "hidden likes" system. We definitely also need to overhaul thread subscribing, and a favorite system would indeed be a solution to that.
Anyway, again, there's pretty much no one left on tigsource who regularly posts in the hidden boards so it's not a concern anymore. It IS within our power to remove that requirement, but there's no point rn since, again, they are dead boards.

Well hey, I think a lot of people are in the same boat, so don't worry about it too much!
I do recommend changing your profile picture to a smaller one though (100pxx100px would be ideal) since larger profile images aren't automatically resized, and yours is quite big!

I don't remember saying that the likes system would have anything to do with post counts or levels? I also just said that levels should probably go away eventually.

It's a thing, but it was created long ago and is basically deserted by now. It's mostly a dumping ground for archived threads and shitposts at this point.
Anyway, I agree that levels being tied to post count is a bit weird. That might be a thing that needs to go eventually.

That's fair. Maybe it would be a better idea to simply let devlog authors decide what kind of reactions are permitted on their devlog entries. It might even be cool if you could add custom reactions themed after the devlog's game.
Of course, all of that is off limits until we put more time into maintaining the backend.

I don’t think a lack of dislikes would turn into groupthink since you’d still have the ability to post comments and voice grievances. The point would just be to help devs feel like people are seeing their work, which would be a welcome morale boost imo.

We discussed dislikes among mods, and we generally agree that it would bring out too much negativity. The point would be to allow people to quickly encourage devlog maintainers, not to allow people to dogpile them.
Also, the version of SMF we're using is ancient and doesn't have a clear upgrade path to newer versions. We'd probably need to chain together several upgrade scripts from version to version, which would take time and energy to test and make sure everything works as intended.

Don't forget blogs. Nobody responds to half of the devlogs here anyways so we're really shouting into the wind.
One of the things we want to do when we eventually upgrade the forum backend is a sort of "like" system for devlog entries, or maybe an emoticon reaction system similar to discord, which would help with that feeling of "shouting in the wind". Also, to answer your earlier question, the guy who's in charge of the backend is Matthew, but he has a full-time job and can't really dedicate much time to upgrading the forum beyond routine technical maintenance (though I'll give him major credit for keeping tigs running for this long.)
