It's loading, or at least, I think it is. I just see a big blinking ad saying 'play now' with no indication on where to click if you want to play your game. So have a 'loading game' button or something, I think. (maybe it takes longer to load on my computer, I don't know.) I do know I clicked the title banner a few times to see if that'd make the game play.

It did load, and I hit the play button. It's fun game, I wouldn't say it was too easy, and can easily see why people would say it was too hard. I think it's o.k. as it is.

Ah, o.k, that's what I was interested in hearing. No, I haven't worked with an artist on that basis.. only worked with only a few artists before on (small) freeware projects, and only 1 of them would I actually call a good artist.

That being said, I'm still interested in hearing if he tried contacting anyone at all.

I'm not opposed to donations for projects, lets get that straight. Its a practical way for a user to support&show appreciation to a dev&the software he creates.

Whether it should be a tasteful page on his own website, or a forum post is neither here nor there for me, although I 'get' why some people would call it begging.

I'm just interested in hearing his experience with artists, since that is what he's specifically needing the money for. I'm not in an all too different situation from him (I think a lot of devs are!)

I'm just curious, you've talked a lot about how you need art, and thus, need money, but what have you actually tried in the art range? I mean, aren't you trying to sell your game?

Why couldn't you get an artist/s to complete the work, and give them a percentage of profits?

I'm just thinking, it's great your devving a game and all, and best of luck with that, but it seems like your wanting other people to 'pay' for your artists, so you don't have to split profits with them. Which isn't necessarily bad, but I just don't like the sound of it.

So it'd be great if you could explain why you couldn't do that.(find artist&just split profits)

I needed the spoiler.

Perhaps have something like when you knock on the other doors, it says something like 'it's locked' or something. After getting so many nonresponses, I just presumed that doors were out of bounds for dogs.

I made that small since I guess it was a possible spoiler

Nice pixels, cute game. And yes, I'm a dog person, too.  Smiley

For some reason it never occurred to me to press esc! Feeling pretty silly, but I wonder why.. maybe because it was a flash game. I think this'd be the first time I've had to hit esc in a (browser) game.
346  Developer / Playtesting / Re: Eternity (alpha) on: November 10, 2010, 12:04:47 PM
This is probably pretty silly, but I've landed on a planet with L, and now I don't know what to do. I can move the selection up the 3 options (Probe Launcher,Trade Depot Factory)
But can't seem to select, or do anything.

Oh, and can't figure out how to go back.

Looks fun, though. I didn't like the initial text at the start when I was loading it up. Flickery, green. It made it harder to read, and didn't exactly make it seem more realistic to me.. I mean, you'd think in space age, they'd figure out how to make computers display text properly.

I like space games, hope you finish this.   Coffee

Edit: Now I'm in a star port, have no money to buy anything, and can't seem to find my way to close the star port screen.. Sad Am I missing some sort of important button? I'm trying all the keys..

He's using GM, but I would agree with what you have to say. Just using show_message would be good for the test.
348  Developer / Technical / Re: Very strange (And game freezing) bug. on: October 07, 2010, 07:17:02 PM
You call the script instance_moving without posting it. It's really hard to tell, but I suspect that that may be the trouble (I see no infinite loops at all in the code you have currently posted)

Also, I have no idea what obj_grazepart is.

I'm going to start by working with the assumption that the freeze is an infinite loop... 99% of all freeze bugs are so. :p

So are you calling a function [i.e. instance_moving(), but possibly approach()] recursively? Does that, or another function use a while/for loop?

349  Community / Townhall / Re: Loneliness: an experimental notgame (open source - FlashPunk) on: September 09, 2010, 12:09:51 AM
If I remember correctly, when I made a game in flash punk, and I had 'up' for jump, (and down for dig') all that did was make the game browser scroll up and down. [although left and right worked ok)

I changed it to Z and X. Unsure if this is related.

And, man, none of the other squares want to make friend with me. I so need a gun. That'll teach them.

350  Player / General / Re: Christian Games on: September 06, 2010, 01:15:50 PM
Perhaps a better topic would be...

If you were going to make a Christian/Biblical game.. how would you make it?

I'd have to note that if you were making a Biblical game, please, please, don't 'twist' and rewrite things. That sucks.
351  Player / General / Re: Christian Games on: September 03, 2010, 06:26:40 PM
Theo, yeah there are some movies that showcase parts of the Bible.  But I want a show that really gets through all of it from start to finish.

Also, I'd like the show to be racy and saucy like Rome, instead of pious and sanctimonius.  Maybe a little David on Jonathan action from the book of Samuel?  That'd get ratings.

What, David running off with one of his men's wives is too pious for you?

It's my 'understanding' (and please note I'm no expert on it!) that the old testament was written, to show that people where sinners who needed saving.

The law, 10 commandments.. everything. You can't keep it. And it was shown time and time again.

The new testament is showing redemption. You cannot keep from sinning (on your own). If you doubt that, there's this big ol' book called the old testament which shows you how great men (David, Solomon, Moses...) still stumbled, and fell, and sinned.

The old testament, and the law, etc, condemns you, the new testament saves (or shows the way) to be saved.

That's my understanding of how the two books work.. They are really fascinating reads, and the parallels between the two, and the prophesies fortold in the old testament which came true in the new testament is really amazing. Like a true life fantasy.

Would that be a jewish-christian puppy dog during the inquisition?  WTF

This topic is funny, and mildly offensive. Mostly, in the way some games are being called christian, when they really aren't.

Well, what is christian anyway. Certainly, if any of these games are anything to go by, it doesn't mean it's biblical.

I think people who say christian games are boring, have a point, but it's like playing a breakout game, and saying it's boring. People play games expecting/wanting different things.

If you like hitman, and want to play hitman, a christian game is unlikely to deliver.. unless it's one about Ehud.

But then people would argue that that isn't a christian game, but rather a biblical game. Semmantics, sheesh.

353  Community / Townhall / Attic Toys on: August 30, 2010, 07:50:12 PM
I've looked around, and I 'believe' this is the correct place to post this.

Attic toys is a game I finished almost about a year ago. It's a small shooter project, which I made for a competition for the now non-existent gameCOG community.

I actually picked up a prize there, something about it being interesting, or creative, or something like that. [the prize was hosted by the, again, now non-existent gamemold company.]

Well, the thing that DOES still exist is my game! It's Attic toys.. just let me copy&paste..

DESCRIPTION:
Attic Toys is a 3d arcade shooter, where the goal of the game is to shoot the balls that come bouncing out of the attic as fast as possible. The faster you shoot them, the higher your final score, but each miss subtracts more from your score, so aim carefully!
There is only one level, of intense fun, combined with a bit of tactical shooting. *Beware of letting balls hide behind the crates!*
Challenge your friends.. who can get the highest score?

Some screenshots:

Some gameplay

You can snag a download at Yoyogames here:
http://www.yoyogames.com/games/116267-attic-toys

Also, Attic toys has an online highscore hosted by pointedgames. [they still exist!]
You can see the game page, with the highscore here:
http://www.pointedgames.com/game.php?q=10

There's also a download button there, if you prefer them to Yoyogames.

So, yeah, have fun. I had fun making it, and people who played it seem to enjoy it. It's just a simple little thing, so enjoy it for what it is!

Cheers,
~DD

No problem. Smiley
356  Developer / Technical / Re: Parallax/Tiles question on: April 08, 2010, 08:29:55 PM
You should be able to just use view_hspeed in your code like this.

Code:
tile_layer_shift(-2,0+(view_hspeed[view_number]/4),0)
357  Community / Tutorials / Re: Game maker: Masking problem. on: April 08, 2010, 02:35:44 PM
So going 3d isn't an option?

358  Developer / Technical / Re: Parallax/Tiles question on: April 08, 2010, 02:22:53 PM
Yes you can. Yes tile_layer_shift should do it.

Could you perhaps show us your code you did? We'll poke that a bit and see if we can get it working.
