22  Jobs / Collaborations / [Help Wanted] Urban Gothic RPG on: June 08, 2018, 02:40:38 AM
More information about the story, art, gameplay and music can be found > here <

Synopsis: Mad Sin is a 2D turn-based RPG set in an urban gothic fantasy setting. The story revolves around a mysterious grey fog that lingers into different areas in the world. When the fog reaches into an area, the area is considered "The Grey Area", which is where the madness happens. The madness involve monsters terrorizing the area, loved ones betraying each other, people going rogue, etc.

The player will be partnered up with a S.P.A.I agent who investigates and resolves paranormal/supernatural disasters. The player takes the role of an S.P.A.I agent working behind the scenes while giving the field agent orders. Also there are characters the player meets in the game who will support the player in stopping what is causing the madness from happening.

The game will be a straightforward turn-based RPG made with the RPGMaker MV game engine. It'll have it's own story, main quests to complete, side quests to optionally complete, and puzzles to solve. Though I want to take a different approach mainly on presentation since the game mechanics will be mostly the default turn-based battle system present on the game engine. I may utilize some scripts to mix up the gameplay, but not much.

Positions/Roles Needed:

Artists
  • backgrounds: responsible for creating custom backgrounds for cutscenes and battle scenes [2/2 positions available]
  • tilesets: responsible for creating custom tilesets to create the game world [2/2 positions available]
  • sprites: responsible for creating custom sprites for PCs, NPCs, enemies, and animations [2/2 positions available]
  • user interface: responsible for creating custom icons, buttons, text, and text boxes [2/2 positions available]

Note for Artists: It's fine if you give me at least a sketch of your work. I can finish up your sketches and make them complete.

Writers
  • narrative writing: responsible for crafting the game's story and character dialogue [full]
  • technical writing: responsible for crafting game progression and character stats [full]

Note for Writers: It's fine if you give me a rough draft of your work. I can finish up your drafts and write up the missing details.

Musicians/Sound Effects Artists
  • music tracks: responsible for composing the game's original sound track [full]
  • sound effects: responsible for crafting the game's original sound effects [full]

Note for Writers: As long as you keep it within the music genre, you're free to let loose and express yourself. For sound effects, try to make sounds that's not similar to other games.

Extra Roles
  • marketing (art): assist in promoting the game through promotional artwork [4/4 positions available]
  • marketing (social): assist in promoting the game in multiple social sites and forums [1/1 positions available]
  • comic artist: assist in creating a comic pages that will promote the game [2/2 positions available]

Note for Extra Roles: While these are extra roles, the extra things to promote the game creates an audience. When you help me promote the game, you in turn promote your work as well.

My Role(s)/Position(s):

-I'll cover these roles-

  • Design
  • Art
  • Writing
  • Sound
  • Development
  • Marketing

-I'll outsource these roles eventually-

  • Music
  • Marketing

Skill Trade:

If you need some art for your game, I'm good to make quick sketches. Also I'm good to make tilesets, sprites, and animations in the form of pixel art or vector art. Though if you need something complete, send me a PM and we'll discuss more about it.

Goals:

  • I'm aiming to create a demo of the game within 3 months
  • I plan on raising funds for the game via Kickstarter or Indiegogo when the demo is done and I get ready to make a crowdfunding campaign
  • If the campaign is successful, I aim to finish this game in 18 months (1 year 6 months) and release the game commercial around the fall season (Q3)
  • Along with the game, I want to produce a comic that has the same story as the game, but there will differences that will serve as a complement to the game. The comic is free to read, but people can donate any amount if they like the comic or they want to support the game's development

Feel free to leave questions or comments on this thread or send me a PM if you're interested or want to ask more questions. Thanks for reading.
23  Jobs / Collaborations / Re: [Team Building + Paid] Seeking Marketers or Developers on: December 13, 2015, 10:25:43 PM
Hello Jay, yes the dream is to work on bigger projects, but in order for us to do that we need to have an awesome team that not only is smart in development, but also in organization.

All four of us have been putting content within a short amount of time and we communicate often via skype. Anyways, the team is in the process of raising funds since our funds are limited.

So far the team members wear many hats:

- One person is a 2D generalist, handles business matters, and figures out how to raise funds
- One person is multi-talented in programming, 3D, and some music
- One person is a graphic/web designer and knowledgeable in marketing
- One person is a music composer and a sound designer
- One person is a game designer/writer

I'll let you know more about the team via email. We're looking for a few more people, and we hope that we can make the team grow as well as work with more developers with their own titles.

Beer!

¡Breaking News!

My Word! My Word! My Word!

There are now five people in the team and we're getting ready to get another mobile game app published on the Google Play Store. We're not only making small mobile games, BUT also a bigger project that we will gradually work on over time.

Though there's another thought that came into our heads....

We're open to merge with another smaller team who are making steady progress with their games OR a few people looking for teams to join who has game prototypes/mock-ups made.

We figure that if there are those who work tirelessly on their "potential" million dollar revenue generating game are looking for help, then we're the team to work with. As far as IP ownership goes, we figure that if IP ownership is that important to the smaller team, then we rather execute one's dream game the way they envisioned while being compensated for it. Everyone get's compensated while learning how to work together to get a game done.

Hobbyist need not apply by the way, but we respect you all for developing games for the sheer joy of creating something.

Feel free to contact the team. We're pretty much open to develop any game, BUT we make sure that the project is manageable or open-ended. Beer!

30  Developer / Business / Will MLM be the Upcoming Trend for Raising Capital to Create Games? on: October 12, 2015, 10:50:43 PM
So far, when looking at the MLM business system and telling people about MLM...there's usually that negative connotation to MLM in that it's a pyramid scheme with pushy salesman getting people to sign up to recruit or distribute a product or service. Sure, there are those who are engaged into this business structure that exhibit those traits, but looking at it deeply and looking at MLM on a bigger perspective, I think that this will be a way to raise money part-time and, depending on the MLM company's compensation plan, can technically raise more than enough capital to make the games you, me, or anyone wants to make.

It seems to me that crowdfunding is still a hot topic for indie game developers, and while a couple of indie devs are successful at crowdfunding, it comes with it's own risks as well. Even if the game got the funds it needs through crowdfunding, it does have it's downfalls. The common one is the campaign is unsuccessful; another is that a game got the funds requested but when the game is published, the sales are poor and the indie game dev company goes bankrupt; well known personas who are a part of the gaming or game dev community somehow messed things up in terms of management, having people who donated money losing it from a concept that's yet to be developed; and it goes the same for established game devs who got the funding through their prestige and experience from working on other games.

I realize that angel investors or venture capitalists generally won't take risks on a new idea or an unknown name or game.

I know that if I turn to a publisher to finance the games I have in mind, it won't be the game that I envisioned.

So, I want to see if MLM still leaves a bad taste on people's mouth or is it something that can blow up if aspiring game developers know how the MLM business works?

Hello everyone, I would like to get some feedback on a project I'm working on with someone.

Play the recent build that we have and give us some feedback. Also please take the time to answer our polls. The more feedback we get, the more we can polish this game to be fun. Smiley

Menu Music

Game Music

Here's what I'm thinking of when it comes to game music. I want to hear something that's

,

, cheerful, and has that nice chiptune sound to it.

Disclaimer: I don't have a huge budget, but what I can do right now is pay for 3 stock music at a negotiable price upfront. This game is in the polishing stages and will be published on the web and on Google play around late October or late November. So in addition to upfront payment, I am willing to give a bit of profit share and the right for the musician(s) to sell/distribute music samples.

Please contact me if you have tunes for me to listen to. Send samples to: [email protected]
33  Player / General / Re: Being Productive (And not getting distracted) on: August 16, 2015, 12:44:14 AM
Convert your distraction into a passion in some way. Works like a charm and that's why I'm wasting time being active on the forums, when I could of been developing more features in my game.  Durr...?
34  Player / General / Re: My theory on Unity and commercial engines' popularity on: August 16, 2015, 12:40:44 AM
Dear Original Poster

I think your theory has some valid points, but what's wrong with seeing Unity or any other commercial game engines as a 'toy'? The engine developers also had in mind how the engine can serve multiple uses. If you see some people making machinima out of game engines then that's one way to utilize the engine. I think it's a bit overkill to use Unity as a web development platform to make websites, but that can be achievable with Unity as well. At the end of the day, it's all about what people can create with the tools offered in front of them.

Ah cool cool, yeah I'm just giving suggestions. Haha it seems like the trend for good games is to go back to the classics.  Coffee

Hahaha yep, I think people mentioned Earthbound or Mother 2 already. Yeah, having a relatable setting told in a surreal type fashion is something up in my interest alley. Just wondering...is the threat ex-terrestrial or psychologically ethereal since you mention that this game got it's inspiration from your bad work experiences in your teen years?

Man, this game has been in development for so long...it's nice to see that it's about to be completed. I really like the quirky personality this game have. I guess it's due to the 80-90s anime inspired look. Also this game is unforgiving sometimes. If the stiff controls are intentional, I guess this one of those things where landing position is one of the key things in this game.  Smiley

39  Community / DevLogs / Re: Crossplatform action RPG - Hellscare Realm (Live on Kickstarter) on: August 15, 2015, 12:24:52 PM
Hahaha man I really like concepts like this. Just wondering, is the game's theme set in a post-apocalyptic world that got taken over by demonic energy from hell...or is it hell itself?

Also references to Diablo and similar games is a nice touch. RPGs are a good time spender.  Coffee
40  Community / DevLogs / Re: [J-RPG] Project Light on: August 15, 2015, 12:07:20 PM
Haha yep, this has that original FF7 pre-rendered fixed camera environments...classic. I like how this game incorporates a cute, gritty mixture that not a lot of game devs touch on. Haha the game concept is a breath of fresh air despite the contrasting theme it has.  Gentleman

I like what I see so far and I hope you keep developing it at a steady pace. Smiley

Some feedback though. I think it would be nice to keep the pre-rendered fixed camera set up, but adding a feature such as having your party follow you around than just assuming that the party is with you is a nice touch. I think retro games added a feature like that as well.
