Hey folks! We haven't posted anywhere near as much as we intended when we started this thing... but since we last posted we did get greenlit on Steam. That changed our focus from console to PC release first, which we're happy to say is 1st September, so just a few weeks away!

We reworked the environment art and colour palettes. The whole game is a lot more vibrant now. Things have changed a lot over the course of development... but guess that's all part of the journey of gamedev!

Anywho, just wanted to share. We'll see what the next few weeks bring... Cheers!  Coffee
3  Developer / Business / Re: Releasing a game during steam summersale? on: July 18, 2016, 02:57:43 AM
Some really useful info here, great thread! Smiley Does anybody know if it's best to avoid releasing within the week after Gamescom, which is 17th-21st August this year? We aren't taking our game to the show, so we won't get any press directly from it.

We don't have a huge following yet, so we're more concerned with exposure on the Steam store. We were thinking it's maybe best to wait another week until the Gamescom noise has died down, in terms of press. Any thoughts?

Eyyy :D That's cool! Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm honestly not aware of any problems with progressing in a level, but I wouldn't be 100% surprised either.
I'm guessing, and I could be wrong, that there was an awkward set of platforms selected that it made it difficult to navigate. It is something that needs tightening up.
It was a mind frazzling experience for us too! Double thanks! Toast Right

Hey!

We recently took the game to a show here in the UK. If you'd like to give the demo we took a go here it is!

We just thought you'd be interested to know we attended our first show!
We pulled out all the stops to get a good build.

Here's a photo of our set-up, Flamingo's and all!!

The feedback from Rezzed was great; overall people seemed to really enjoy it, some people even came back for all three days to play it! Smiley
We've been struggling to get the game in front of people and getting feedback, so this was really good for us.

Some things we learned:
- Some tips and tricks for shows
- Improving the tutorial sequence
- Ideas for different control schemes
- New ideas and tweaks for enemies and weapons

Some mistakes we made:
- We made it too hard! Hardly anyone saw the boss in the demo, and only ONE person defeated it!
- We missed a few bugs which got in way of people's experience, though thankfully they were quite rare/unlikely

Now we are going to focus on finishing the game, improving it in a few areas highlighted. It's mostly about content now for us, which is a great position to be in.

If you want to play what we sent to the show, plus a few tweaks and fixes, here it is:
http://superhatchgames.azurewebsites.net/Builds/FeatherpunkPrime-RezzedDemo.zip

I'll update soon with some more of the recent things we've added and changed.

When I saw the title I wasn't expecting to see visuals like this! Looking interesting. It's an original idea. Can imagine a lot of playful things you can do with the concept...  Smiley

That boss is superb! Love the colour palette you're using, very strong. Everything looks to be giving good feedback to the player too. I'd like to play this! Looking great Smiley
12  Community / DevLogs / Re: A Game of Changes on: March 16, 2016, 04:56:37 PM
Some nice lighting with the low poly style should help it stand out. I like your approach to simplicity, I think this is shaping up well Smiley

Maybe you could focus on the core mechanics until they are solid before doing the polish stuff like the footstep effects. But who am I to say. Keep up the good work!  Smiley
13  Community / DevLogs / Re: GODHOOD - A rhythm hack'n'slash on: March 16, 2016, 06:08:12 AM
You've got some nice effects going on! It's a novel idea too, it'll be a challenge to execute but looks like you have a solid plan!

I personally would like to see the backgrounds (builings/scenery) given a bit more stylisation; maybe play with the colours to give your characters a bit more visual punch? Looking nice though, good work  Smiley

Sounds like you've got some nice ideas for invoking some freshness into the formula. The soundtrack idea is very cool!  Smiley

This has has a lovely had crafted look to it, and it's certainly got an original spin on combat. Looks very promising. It'll be great to see more of the perils you come up against in the adventure. Nice work!  Smiley

  • Is there anything that you’d like us to expand on?
  • Any weapons you would particularly like to see added?
  • Any special moves or power ups you would particularly like to see added?
  • Which floor did you reach?
  • What do you think of the overall difficulty?

You can contact us at:

Playtesters will of course be credited! We'd very much appreciate you spending time with the game.

Featherpunk Prime is twin-stick action platformer. It is best played with a joypad, but there is an option in the Main Menu to turn on Keyboard and Mouse controls. More on controls can be found in the readme.txt in the zip folder.

The aim of the game is to get to the top of the tower. Every 10th floor is a boss fight! Defeated bosses give you a checkpoint - you can then skip to this floor on your next run if you like (or enter at a lower floor to grind and loot, it’s up to you!).

You can upgrade your Robo-Flamingo! To buy upgrades, collect Tekcells from killed enemies and eggs. When you exit a floor, the credits you have collected in that floor are converted into your ‘bank’. You can then spend these in the upgrade menu, which is accessed by pressing pause.

If you are killed, you will lose all the Tekcells you collected on that floor and respawn in the basehub. The computer screen on the left of the Basehub will contain stats and bonuses in the final game - for now it is not functional. Go to the lift on the right of the basehub to enter the tower again.

Notes:

  • The final game will comprise 60 floors, with every 10th floors being a boss fight
  • The demo cycles between two environments. There will be 6 in the final game; one for each 10 floors.
  • Sound FX and music are work in progress.

If you enjoy this demo, please vote for us on Steam Greenlight here. We appreciate your support!

Rezzed
We will be at EGX Rezzed in London on April 6th-9th. If you are going to the show come we’d love for you to come and play the latest version and talk to us about the game. Or how awesome flamingos are.

Hey guys,

We are Dan and Stephen, a two man indie team who used to work for Sony London Studio and left to make a smaller, more personal game in the style of some of our favourite classic games such as Metroid and Megaman. Our game is called Featherpunk Prime!

http://www.superhatchgames.com/

We actually already started a thread in the Devlog section a little while ago, so we're a bit late introducing ourselves - apologies for this! So a belated hello, but very happy to be part of the Tigsource community!  Beer!

Featherpunk Prime is a twin stick action-platformer mega mission with a mighty weapons arsenal, random levels and colossal boss fights! It's one super-agile Robo-Flamingo and its armoured sidekick against a horde of avian warbots; relentless, powerful and berserk! You'll need skill, strategy and a slick trigger finger. Ascend the tower, execute the Guardians and take down the evil Cybirdroid Corporation...

Genre: Is an action platformer where you can fire in any direction. It has some light RPG and Roguelike elements in the approach to progress and levelling-up. It's level generation is inspired by games like Rogue legacy and Spelunky.

Some of Featherpunk Prime's Features:

Be a super-badass-robo-flamingo!
Navigate the tower with a range of abilities; boost through the air, grind along platforms, cling and slide on walls, dodge enemy attacks, duck, sprint and jump.

You aren't alone in your fight. F-Droid will aid your battle, giving you supporting firepower when you need it. Think of him as a pet. With guns

Combat
Taking down a group of enemies will take your full concentration. Combat grows more intense as you ascend the tower, yet more rewarding as you hone your skills and learn strategies to eliminate the enemies you come across. Use your surrounding level wisely and make sure you prioritise the right enemies first.

The Robo-Flamingo’s is an agile species; make use of all his moves and abilities to jump and boost away from projectiles, cling to walls to gain better positions, duck and slide your way out of danger!

You’ll find yourself constantly on your toes, reacting to each unique situation. Find space between projectiles and dodge enemies that launch themselves at you.
Be wary of enemies hunting you down!

Boss Fights
The Cybirdroid Guardians are a diverse array of berserk and relentless creatures. Each one has a range of brutal attacks and a weakness to exploit. Eliminate them and be rewarded with an unlocked checkpoint and upgrades for your sidekick F-Droid!

Unlocks and Upgrades
Destroyed enemies drop Tekcells. Collect these from enemies and egg pods to buy new upgrades, such as increased firepower, health and quicker reloads to new abilities like the Shockwave attacurlr Boost. You can also upgrade youurl-Droid's stats and skills.

Story
Collect Archive Data to uncover the backstory of your adventure. War has been raging in the Avereon Galaxy for many years; the evil Cybirdroid weapons company is the catalyst, profiting from the conflict. They must be stopped!
