Blambler is a quick and simple shooter I just finished.  The objective in the campaign levels is to destroy the enemy headquarters building.  There is also a survival mode that sees you surrounded by enemies, trying to last as long as you can.  Supports keyboard and gamepad but is more comfortable with gamepad.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I've whetted myself.

Super Gachapon World SD Gundam X(snes)
A hex grid turn-based strategy game with fast-paced action battles.  Admittedly I'm a Gundam fan(robot anime is the only anime I really like) and most Gundam games are garbage, but this one is gold.  If you can get past the initially ugly map graphics and figure out how it works, you'll find a very satisfying and replayable strategy game.  A game can easily take more than 4 hours to finish, especially if you pick the space map that has 5 planets and a moon.  Basically you have to destroy every single enemy unit or have a higher score if there's a turn limit.  To do that you need mobile suits(giant robots) that you can produce at factories.  The battles are quite fun because they let you fly around as one of your mobile suits and shoot and slash(which is very much a game of skill).  The strategy of surrounding and outnumbering your enemies on the map plays very much into victory in battle.  It's always a harrowing experience when you have the enemy's last planet surrounded and your building up for an invasion, all the while he's sending up warships full of mobile suits that you'll have to shoot down inside the reentry zone.  The sequels to this game were sadly riddled with unimprovements that destroy all the fun.  Definitely the best Gundam game I've played by far.  It is 'SD', mind you.

I always imagined Atlas Shrugged as a fighting game.

Mystical ninja was an absolute n64 classic.  Awesomely written and just all-around entertaining.

I never understood why everybody has such a hard-on for ultraviolence.  It really doesn't help me enjoy a game.

That's got to be the worst crossover ever.  Midway should just quit already.
11  Player / Games / Re: Strong Non-Sexualized Female Leads on: May 12, 2008, 06:16:55 AM
I don't think sexualized females in are necessarily unrealistic.  Just mostly the way they are in games is.  For example, Eva from MGS3 is a very compelling character and her sexuality is actually appropriate.  I'm just sick of seeing swimsuit models doing backflips through the air while dual-wielding submachineguns.  It doesn't really make a whole lot of sense for a woman to have huge boobs and be alluring while she shoots guys in the face.  But I'm also quite sick of sunglass-wearing, jumping around, leatherclad, dual-wielding characters in general.  Regardless of gender.  Eff the Matrix.

To work well I think the units would have to have a chain of command as well as an organizational structure(i.e. brigades, platoons, squads).  You'd give an objective to a commander and he would in turn order his troops to act accordingly.  This kind of thing would make infantry a lot more than the tank fodder that they usually are in rts games.
13  Community / DevLogs / Re: Concept art for a game Idea: Run. on: May 11, 2008, 07:35:27 PM
I thought about doing a 1st person running game where you manage your stride, breathing, posture, and direction while running a race.  But It'd probably end up being an overcomplicated rhythm game.  I like the idea of a game based around running.
14  Player / Games / Re: Silver Knights and BootFighter on: May 07, 2008, 09:33:46 PM
Bootfighter runs good for me in the survival mode but in the other modes there are dozens of units and beams and missiles flying everywhere so they don't do so well.  It's a pretty cool game and it doesn't have the disappointingly short boost guage that other games like it have.  Though I think the unit designs are from Gundam Seed, which isn't that cool.

I'll take procedural and demakes.

How about fighting/action/beatemup adaptations of classic American novels?

Yeah I see what you mean.  I originally had it in b&w and I haven't really thought to change that.  He's intentionally ment to look scared shitless as the aim of the game is a brutal portrayal of war in an unrealistic NES-like format.

The part where link is running from the peahats was pretty cool.
