MEATHOLE

Say hello to the meat hole. Looking cheap so far.

I really like the look of this.  Did you introduce noise yourself? Set the render resolution low and then upscale it?
I just use a free pixelated shader + standart Unity noise   Shrug
Hey the sound sample you posted was a really good start! Creepy. Do you have audio experience? Because that was pretty convincing.
Thanks! I have no serious audio background besides a dozen of small games made from the scratch solo.

This is looking really good so far.  I may be in the minority on this, but glad to see you decided to switch to tank controls.  They really work well for this type of game.
Thank you! Tank controls are necessary when using fixed cameras.
Wish more games do that nowadays.

CINEMATIC CAMERAS!
Reworked the camera system and made the "tank controls". I guess it looks better.

Also I changed the main character's model.
Now he looks almost like Henry from Eraserhead.

to me the most horrifying thing about the silent hill atmosphere was that despite a wealth of local businesses there was no locksmith
If there was a locksmith games would lasted several times longer

MAP SYSTEM
Orphanskin now has a map system. It's the same as in the first three Silent Hill games.
Map updates automatically, while player explores different locations.
On the map, important objects such as: opened and locked doors, checkpoints, and quest items are being marked as soon as you've discovered them.

SOUND

I spent some time figuring out how the game should sound and how I can make that sound.
Listen the result here:

Do not pay attention to the subtitles. I'm not a native English speaker

HEALING

There are two health feedback features:
  • Red healthbar, which can be seen when player opens the inventory
  • Also saturation changes when player is low on health. You can see background flickering on the GIF above. I probably should add a screen shaking, limping animation for player and some blur
So when player thinks that it is time to heal, he presses a button and a incredible Bar of Healing appears! Screamy

Interface is work in progress

This thing works almost the same as the reloading bar from Gears of War. Slider moves from left to right. You can wait when slider will get to the far right point of the bar, which will start the long healing process. Healing that way takes around 4 seconds.
Additionally you can press the Heal button. If the slider is in the green zone, it will speed up the healing process three times. But if you'll press the button when slider is in the red zone, healing will failed. You will save medkit, but will lost a few seconds. This can be critical in the middle of combat.

I wouldn't have thought it was easy to make a game with chibi-esque characters creepy, but you seem to be succeeding. If you get the sound design on point I'm sure it'll be terrifying.
Thanks! I think, in terms of visuals it's all about lighting and colors.

Adventure game about an orphan searching for his family

Monsters desperately want to kill you. So run, or fight them

This time I'm making an old school survival horror game inspired by good old Silent Hill and Resident Evil games of PS1 era. You will explore rooms, solve puzzles, fight monsters and... that's all! Gameplaywise look no further than first three RE and SH games. BUT:
  • No tank controls
  • Aiming works from player's perspective
  • Single camera for single location. Camera may scroll and tilt

Soon I will finish the demo version.

It's been crazy in my life, but I finally had a chance to listen to your music! I've been off getting married (just a little important Tongue )

I really dig it! I think at around the :15s mark, having a melody enter would be a wonderful addition. You have the accompaniment spot on to get that spooky but not-too-spooky feel. All you need is a quirky melody to add some flavor!

Keep up the great work :D
Congrats, man!  Gentleman
Also glad you liked this piece by far. Right now I design a proc dungeons. But I gonna work more on music when I'll have some time. So I'll let you know when there gonna be a new music  Smiley

You know, a lot about your project puts me in mind of the nook Tim Burton usually occupies. Out of curiousity, has the 'Nightmare Before Christmas' or perhaps his other works been any inspiration?

Good luck!

Hello! Tim Burton's Beetlejuice is definitely one of inspirations for this project.
Thanks!

Wow. This is disturbing and beautiful at the same time. Nightmares go unspoken and unseen, visually. Recreating children's nightmares (or nightmares in general) in a video game format could be VERY beneficial to younger audiences. By having players "conquer" the nightmares, it may result in less fear during the night. A psychologist ought to interview you about this. Just my two cents, but it could be incredibly beneficial to overcoming nightmares!

Great work, and keep it up. My eyes are on this one, for sure Smiley
I dunno, nightmares are kinda interesting, but thanks  Smiley

Blink
Greetings!

Last week I did some work here and there:
  • Implemented a "riddles system". Basically there are a list of ~50 abstract yes/no questions that monsters can ask you. Answers are shuffled every time you start a new game. Monsters could ask the same question multiple times, so player have to remember it, or just write it down whatever
  • Completely changed "daytime sequences". Removed random events, now working on ability to upgrade players toy and room.
  • Monsters now have immunity and weaknesses to skills! Some of them are static, others assigned randomly at start of a new game. Discovered weaknesses are represented as pictograms on the skill icons.
  • And finally a new trading system. Trade now is another way to make a monster leave. If player chooses this option, monster will offer the trade that may be unprofitable to player. If player refuse to trade, monster can get mad and attack.
Also I removed a little red-skull icon which gives a feedback on monster whether he is aggressive or not. I know this sentence is a mess, but I'm not native, it's alright.

Here are a few gifs:
