HILARIOUS devlog. Thanks for brightening my day ^^ And then here is a random dog that showed up while I was messing with tail genes. This guy's actually the result of a bug (gene indices were applying to the wrong attribute) but most of this is theoretically possible through standard mutations. You know this type of mutation is actually possibile in nature (though incredibly rare)? Behold!

The Tales of series is full of bad design decision, but I always liked its Skit system - little cutscenes activated by a button press where the characters discuss the game plot, make jokes or just banter between each other. It really helps the characters feel more alive. I'd like to see more party-based rpgs with a similar system.

Developer / Business / Re: Release game now, market it later?

I think you should wait and properly think about your marketing campaign. Hire a competent figure if you need it, but don't just relase the game and hope for the best.
You should wait because the audience likes to try new things. When you'll launch the game, it will be featured on the "just relased" pages of Steam and Itch.io, so you'll have a brief spotlight. Take full advantage of your newness. On the other hand, seeing a game relased and then marketed after months seems... Off. If it's good, why haven't I heard about it before? People will think about that. Your campaign would seem iffy. You could make mini-campaigns to mark important discounts or updates, but I fear randomically deciding to market an old game wouldn't really work.

Haha yes I am 100 percent sure this isn't Frog Fractions 2! Think of it this way- wouldn't it be a little too easy if a hidden sequel had "Frog" or even "Fractions" in the title? It's all a trick! You're trying to mislead us by hiding in plain sight! The inventory looks lovely, btw. Remember me of those old "encyclopedia" CD-ROMS, way before wikipedia. They always had funky UIs.

Developer / Playtesting / Re: Game Name Clinic - I will rate your game's name

"Fantasy Conquest Tactics" Yeah, I fear it's a bit generic. I think a good title should highlight the peculiarities of your project. Your game is a fantasy conquest tactics game, ok, but HOW is it different from another gazillion of similar titles? Your project is still young, so maybe you still don't know. Try to focus about the features that makes your game truly unique, and condense it in your title Speaking of titles, I never asked anybody how Selling Sunlight sounds. Mine is a game about being a traveling merchant.

I agree, no need to add a complex gameplay! Have you ever played games like LSD and Yume Nikki? They're a bit like yours - giant sandboxes with lots of interesting envroniments to play with. As long as the world is interesting, there is no need to add "gamey" elements. An handful of collectibles should be enough to ensure a vague sense of progression. Or maybe you can add secret zones reachable only by using an item, like a glider needed to pass a chasm

Soon they'll be selling Hololens-style Pokemon go glasses. Flying ads will be something you have to remove by handslide before you use a public restroom or get that Pepsi in the fridge. AdBlockers will cost a fortune and Arthur C. Clarke didn't see half of it coming. Have you ever seen ? It's an anime about children with virtual pets they can only see with their AR glasses. I think our future will become a lot similar to this.

Player / Games / Re: Games becoming too long?

Are games becoming too long? Or are we getting too busy to play them?
This is what I'm thinking. Actually I think it's a combination of 3 factors: 1. We are getting older. I have less time to play, and a lot more money. So I enjoy games which pack a lot of entertainment in a short timespan, like Transistor and The New Order. Games I can finish, put back on the shelf and move on. 2. It's getting easier to buy and collect games. Digital distribution (and a rapidly expanding gamedev industry) means you can easily get a collection of 500+ titles just by watching out for bundles and daily deals. And with a huge backlog like that, the idea of playing only 1 game for a long time becomes less appealing. 3. Games are actually getting longer, because devs have gotten better at making games and have more resources at their disposal than they used to have. This doesn't necessarily mean that any content in the game is worse than the old school content, just that there is more of it. But considering points 1 and 2 above, and the fact that finishing a game has an intrinsic value to some gamers vs. "playing until you grow tired of it", this can become a problem when you want to finish a title but you also want to play something else. You, sir, have nice opinions. I like you.

The progression is really bad since you need x amount of ~pokemon_type~ candy to level and evolve a pokemon which means all the gyms near me are like super buff raticates and pidgeots.
It should be ~element_type~ candy so you can turn that oddish into delicious food for your Bulbasaur.
Went to two parks, one shopping center with 5 fountains, two lakes, and a river today.
I agree so much. This candy thing also means catching a rare pokemon is often underwhelming. "O look, a super rare monster... Which I can't really use because it's weak and I won't ever find more pokemons like it".
