Player / General / Re: When is indie no longer considered indie to you?

Emotinally, when game gets million-moneys-fund qualities. For me, Amnesia was an indie and now Soma has some AAA bits. Besides, if you see pixel art graphics today then it's definitely Indie Yes. I think the term 'indie' becomes a bit loose, once it's defined as 'outside mainstream', because what the heck is mainstream really? Minecraft used to be indie as I know it, and now it's more mainstream than an EA game or something. I think we should establish a fixed point where things are no longer indie, and that's when the money put into marketing is enough to open your very own mcD in your country. The Big Mac Indiex. There. I fixed it.

The question is in the topic.. I have seen a few games tagged as indie on Steam, despite being published by mainstream medias and being backed by heavy funding etc., here's one I just stumbled upon by Activision.. Tagged as indie by some user, and it made me wonder: When should we cease to call something 'indie', how many buckaroos or customers does it take, or what definition do you go by?

It's fairly new that I have begun to make sound fx for games, it has been out of need, but I have had my way with many genres of music now. Some more successful than others, of course.

Hehe, I actually just glimpsed that it said something about 120 days old when I posted, but I guess it said more than 120 days old. Sure is an old topic, indeed. I'm not all that used to SMF boards. Nice thread btw, sort of an auto xp thread, but I think I'll try to craft some real xp instead, for now

I often collab with my gf, and we made this today, where she did the flower, and I did the animation. Quite simple of course, but we haven't been using Blender for all that long, I used to be a 3DS fella many years ago, but came to realize that I had forgotten most here 10-15 years later. It's using the shapekeys.

Well, I did say it wasn't enough time for me, and here's the evidence: Morphing of complex shapes.. A bat to an xbox 360 controller. But I don't think this controller would be easy to play with in its current state. Insta fail!

Shapeshifting..
Love this Ludum Dare concept, as quite new to it, as well as this forum, and I love some of the stuff you guys have come up with. I see I have ~30 minutes to complete the task if I join in, so I'll have to skip this one. Motoherp and Prinsessa.. Very nice. Your work made an instant impression when browsing through this thread. Lots of other good stuff too. You have the whole day today too if you want, actually! The compo is 48 hours, but the jam is 72. Plus an extra submission hour for both. Also generally more relaxed rules in the jam. And thanks. :$ That's not enough time for me, I actually just began something in blender on which I could pull in my gf for the jam. But I haven't done 3D morphing for many years, and soon saw a long road ahead of me with shapekeys and tons of nodes for what I wanted to do. But thanks for the headsup in any case.. And good luck!

The first game I made was for the Sinclair ZX81, space invaders style. It's long gone now, but here's one I made 32 years later. It isn't much better.. Granted.. But also a joke.. I was just testing some functions in Game Maker, so if we look apart from Flash games, then you can say that this was my first Windows game.

Hello, I'm Thomas. I've been making games on/off since 82' or so, I began as a kid, but mostly by writing off code from magazines for my Sinclair ZX81. Then it was the C=64 where I toyed with things like Shoot Em Up Construction Kit, later the the demo scene, then Amiga where I toyed a bit with sound and music, as well as DeLuxe Paint and so on, if anyone remember that.. And finally PC where I began to make Flash games back when it was hot and new. This got me into music and composition for real, as I needed music for my flash sites and games. So I have made music for some 15 years now and have had that as a main focus - whilst still making small games on the side for fun and a few retail purposes. I'm currently working on my first game for steam greenlight. It's a small strategy game for Windows that I might port to Android and iOS as well. It's 89.4% done. I look forward to reading and engaging in this forum, it seems that all my interests are gathered here. I use Unity, Blender and the notorious Game Maker Studio, btw. The last one reminds me of Flash and Actionscript. Cheers!
