Factorio seems cool. That guy makes games that I would love if I were unemployed or single.

Or not playing thousands of hours of Yakuza.
22  Player / Games / Re: What's the best story game you've played? on: November 20, 2018, 10:27:41 AM
Persona 3 & 4 for me. I can't imagine many other RPG's keeping me engaged for 100's of hours at a time through characters alone. Finishing these games was bitter-sweet, it was like saying goodbye to to people you've spent the last few weeks getting to know.

Unpopular opinion -> Bulletstorm: If you can get past the childish humour and dick-jokes the actual story is really good.

Aye. I love my job and I consistently work 50+ hour weeks (would do more if they let me), I have no idea what to make of people when they complain about "crunch".

That article may be pr fluff. Liam Edwards, who is on this website and worked there is now on record saying overtime was mandatory.

You're right, it might be (and probably is). But what's considered overtime? Anything over 35hours? (Honest question I've never worked at a studio.)

I think I like the look better when you were trying to permanently damage our vision with neon. Cheesy

Just mentioned this to someone. Every industry has crunch or overtime. I've had jobs across almost everything, from labour, fast food, customer service to game development. I've had to do excessive overtime in all of them. I'm not sure where the idea that gamedev is special comes from.

I'm playing Red Dead Redemption II.
It's good.
I'm not
Same. No interest what-so-ever. Glad people are enjoying it though.

Good gosh do I love me some cheesy-retro sci-fi. Love the way this looks, it reminds me of Blake Stone. Kiss

edit: I can't believe someone else remembers Chasm: The Rift!

I have to say, the art style and the gameplay mechanics for this are the coolest damned thing I've seen in a while!
34  Community / DevLogs / Re: Cogmind (sci-fi robot-themed roguelike) - BETA RELEASED on: October 25, 2018, 02:07:10 AM
I won't mirror the whole thing in this here, but it's finally complete, the text version of my Roguelike Celebration 2018 talk, How to Make a Roguelike, a comprehensive primer on how to get started with roguelike development, guidance and tips in 5,500 words and 84 images :D

Tagging this for later reading. (Because, damned it, one day I will create a roguelike!)

I also did not like Hollow Knight, it is praised as a fantastic game so probably I did not approach it well, I like metroidvania games (Ori and the Blind Forest, Apotheon and also the mediocre Shantae), but in Hollow Knight I did not liked the level design, with too many back-tracking expecially at the beginning and the combat system too forced to have a Souls-like feeling and punishment.

I bounced off Shantae as well. I bounce off of most Way Forward games, I'm willing to keep trying to play them because they're gorgeous but I've yet to fall in love with any of them.

I don't have a list of games by a particular developer, but I'm a big fan of indie games. Is there somewhere we can take a look at some of the games you've made? Are any of them public, or are they all private?

Actaully, yeah. Is there a list somewhere of games that TIGSource\TIGForum users have made?
