My friend and I are making a Chibi-Robo inspired game about a tiny robot that punches bugs. (World's most inefficient extermination service haha)

You have to manage a slowly draining energy supply, and when you take damage your battery might come loose and you have to chase it down.

Thanks for sharing this game! It was very fun!

The fact that the first puzzle solves itself is brilliant because it really lowers the barrier to entry. (which is pretty high considering it's a machine code puzzle haha) To improve that slightly I'd recommend just adding an arrow on the first level pointing at the step button that says "Press This" . Once I actually saw the commands in motion the entire game made sense, but before that I had a moment of just staring at the 0's thinking ".....what?"

However after you figure out the mechanics of the game it got very easy. I don't know who your target audience is, but from the perspective of a programmer I will say that the only puzzle that actually required any thought was the final two. All the puzzles before them I beat just by counting the movements needed and punching those commands in.

I'd recommend either adding levels with some walls that permanently block some paths, and/or adding locked commands that can't be changed.
3  Developer / Business / Re: Getting a job in Japan on: July 12, 2017, 03:19:39 AM
It's going to be extremely difficult without a bachelor's degree.

To get a working visa in Japan you're required to either have a bachelor's degree, or several years of work experience in a related field to the job you'll be working in Japan. Then you'd have to go about proving to the Japanese government you have that work experience. Which is about as fun as it sounds.

AlexRamallo did a good job of covering the difficulties of actually getting a job, but I'd like to add that the trust thing he mentions doesn't just apply to getting the job. It also applies to having the job. Regardless of how good your language skills are, or how long you stay there, you will always always be "The Foreigner"

I've worked in Japan for a year now, and I'm friends with people who have been here muuuuch longer than that. It's a fascinating place, and I hope you get the chance to see it sometime. But make sure before you move your life across the ocean you read up on some people's experiences here, and absolutely make sure you read at least some of the stuff by people who did not like it. Everyone responds to the culture differently, and the people writing stuff online who like living in Japan have a tendency to just sweep the bad stuff under the rug and not talk about it. I really enjoy it here, there's so much about Japan to love, and am glad I came, but don't be fooled by the internet's tendency to treat Japan like it's an infallible holy land.

Hello everyone, I'm RedRoy!

I've been coding for 6 years and have a bachelors in computer science. I enjoy programming very much, and even worked at a summer camp teaching code and game design to kids of all ages.

I've been drawing for 4 years, and am, very slowly, getting to the point where I'm not totally embarrassed by my art. (Almost there!)

I've got a couple personal game projects, but I'm not terribly active with them. I'm currently trying to take those projects more seriously, and I thought getting involved in a game design community would be really great way to encourage me.

Looking forward to talking with you all.

Some of my favorite games are Transistor, Chibi-robo, the Bioshock series, Zelda, and a bunch of other stuff. I don't know for certain what my first experience with video games was, because my parents tell me I was messing around with their computer when I was 3 and I don't remember anything from that age. Though my mom says I spent a lot of time playing a Flintstones game? Who knows.
