The colorful pixels come up nicely. Finally something of the bones-style I know from the past. (that's a good thing) Small quirk: Doesn't the fireball looks down too early? (when it is still moving up) Don't like the main character very much, though. Hey, didn't you want to replace him with a female one? Maybe it's about time...

Sprite flicker test for NES version of game: Ahhhh!!! "NES version of the game" sounds like a symphony! But "sprite flicker" does not... What about adjusting the enemy AI that they don't move into a row with too many other enemies? Then the flicker is avoided.

The graphical style comes out really well. If you still have a potential port to a real NES in your mind, you may want to align your texts properly to the 8x8 tile matrix. Here's what I mean: I hope I can see some gameplay action soon, keep it up!

Oh, thanks for the link, Arachne. Here's a first test of the Lazycow-shader: - The pixel colors blend a bit to the neighbour pixel (horizontal only) - colors are tweaked a bit for a pseudo-dotmask - for zoomed display, there're scanlines

@zachstronaut: The leveldesign is a challenge. And my weak point. We will see... @mrseguin: Trust me, you don't want to hear me talking in english. (My english teachers are still suffering) But I would write.a script if George Clooney would do the talking... If you are interested in c64 retro games, take a look over here: http://www.rgcd.co.uk/search/label/competition (One entry uses code from Pharaohs Return. Which one? Make an educated guess...)
