Developer / Business / How do you handle contracts?
|
on: August 04, 2011, 05:04:11 AM
|
As have been discussed in several threads, most of us agree that having contracts when doing work for someone else (and when having someone work for you) is essential. Even if it might be impossible to sue someone if they break it, it serves as a good documentation for what has been agreed on. Now I'm wondering if there are any good solutions for doing digital contracts? If I'm for example composing music for a developer in Australia, I dont want to send a paper contract all the way over there. I guess the main question is, how to sign a digital contract? At my day job we print the documents, sign it by hand, scan it and mail it back, which feels a bit overkill for smaller projects. Any good solutions out there?

Hey sir! That looks like a sweet game, let us know when it has hit the appstore so we can try it out! I'd love to help you but Im currently all out of time. Though I believe you are looking for an sfx guy instead of a musician, since this doesn't have anything to do with music from what I can tell. So you might want to consider changing the title of the postto get more sfx guys here, just a quick tip. I wish you the very best with finishing and releasing the game!

I just heard about AudioGL and thought it looked extremely weird and fantastic. Maybe not something you'd want to use on a regular basis but I think that there are some interesting ideas in there. The envelope editor looked quite smooth and the tree graph system at least looks nice. Not sure if there is a beta of it somewhere?

I got a request over Twitter from @hiive, asking me if I could help out to create the trailer for his upcoming game Creatures And Castles. After seeing some screenshots and footages of the game I got really excited to help him out, so I decided to take a break from my summer vacation and got started on the trailer! The finished result can be viewed It was a really fun project and Andrew was great to work with, I'm looking forward to any projects we might do in the future. Now go out and buy the game, it's available for both iOS and Chrome Web Store!

Just sent you some cash, thank you for a really nice tune! I enjoy the initial synth sounds and melodies, it feels sort of ethereal. Also the drum sounds are interesting, a bit harsh but they still give a soft tone. And the solo coming in at around 3:50 is friggin sweet! I sincerely hope you'll be able to collect enough money to be able to help your sister and her husband, I'll be eagerly awaiting your upcoming album. Take care! Edit: Forgot to add that the cover art is ADORABLE!

Developer / Business / Re: Plain or fancy demo CD?
|

Hey again! Just wanted to clarify my point a bit. Basically I'm saying that you should stay away from anything that might turn into a hassle for the user. The example with the mini-cd is that it might get stuck in the drive, or it might more easily get lost etc. I'd also stay away from including anything that makes it harder for them to store it as it might just get thrown away then. But with that said I think you should absolutely consider pimping it up a bit, include some concept art, a nice brochure, a cookie, etc. Just make it fit within a normal sized CD case, or just slightly larger. Something that sort of shows that this package is "special" and has something of value, that the user gets that feeling even before they've inserted the CD. Just stay away from the stuff that might end up a hassle for them.

Just finished creating the trailer for Secret Base’s upcoming game Tobe’s Great Adventure! I’m thrilled that the great guys over at Secret Base came back to me for another video gig. I previously made a game play video for Tobe’s Vertical Adventure a few months back. The news section will most likely be quite dead during summer. I’ll be gone most of the time, but I’ll bring with me my music laptop in case the urge to scribble down some tunes grows too big. Have a great summer and take care!

I have no experience working with the press, but I'd recommend to stay away from mini CDs or "weirdly shaped stuff". However I think it sounds reasonable that it would add extra interest if you wrap it nicely and include some brochures and similar.

Just wanted to make people aware of the awesome chip/retro/random music site scenemusic.net! They have a nice stream and a cool community, and they host music competitions from time to time. Recently they had the Spring Compo which me and a friend created a tune for, you can listen to all the entries here http://scenecompos.net/compos, there are some really nice tunes in there! I won't tell you which one is the one we did until the votings are over on Sunday!

Just interested to hear if any people from here are or have been involved in Dwelling of Duels? I've been following it for a few years and I've considered joining in a few times, but always felt that my skills are not up for it as most of the submitted tunes are of really sweet quality. I'll try to get a tune done for this month's competition though, hopefully I'll manage to finish it! Anyone else up for it?
