Community / DevLogs / Re: Night of the Blood Moon - 100% LAUNCHED

Hey everyone, This is one of the most exciting posts I've been able to make in a damn long time. Night of the Blood Moon is now complete, and launched on Steam. The reviews have been awesome, the community has been full of feedback, and the blessing of watching people laugh while playing my game has been bestowed upon me. For anyone who doesn't know. Night of the Blood Moon is a rogue-lite which pulls from many genres. The weapons of a Zelda Game + 1 RTS weapon, Bullet hell mechanics, adventure, skills, pets and more. The setting gives zombies and skeletons a break and lets you take hold of a villainous nightmare as you rampage through dream lands. Night of the Blood Moon was a solo project which left me very little time for posting devlogs. Gameplay first, but that may have apparently been my downfall. Marketing yourself is very important. I wrote a long form post about it on reddit /r/IndieDev. At the start of this project I had said my greatest weakness was music, and during a stream one day the perfect musician came along. The composer was an absolute blast to work with, and he taught me a ton about the importance of referencing for your clients. That is almost mentioned in the /r/IndieDev article. Anyways I am stoked to share this experience with you all, and look forward to all the feedback. Lets keep up the great work TIG. -Tyler STEAM PAGE || https://notbm.com/ || twitterdiscord

Community / DevLogs / Night of the Blood Moon - FINISHED!
|
on: January 07, 2019, 04:14:35 PM

Heyo Everyone! IT IS FINISHED! well almost finished. There is still one more small update to come out finallizing some animations and re-implementing a few pets. I am also in the process of getting the wiki set-up. I am incredibly excited about this; 2018 was the year I wanted to conquer a dream, and it has happened. Now I get the joy of sharing it with the world. The response so far has been great, and I'm waiting on the first batch of reviews to come through now. Fingers crossed they are as I expect To anyone who was following this thread thank you for understanding the silence. I am really bad at switching between marketing | programming | art, and so I decided to dedicate all of my time to absolute development. It was probably to my detriment because now nobody knows the game is coming out, but I would rather make sure it is all done right . twitterdiscord

I have just 2 points to make:
1) Lobster is truly awesome and really helped me to survive Kickstarter.
2) I hadn't backed you... (I have now)
You're going to make it. The game already looks awesome, so if you can just deliver a slightly more awesome version of what you have already with these Kickstarter funds (that you're totally going to get) then you're onto a winner.
Good luck!
Thank you so much for the vote of confidence, and thank you for your backing - that is incredibly kind. Honestly this has been the most humbling experience, and maybe you went through the same thing? What started with the kindness of Lobster has transcended into the kindness of pledges, and supportive people. There is that old saying "the universe doesn't owe you anything". No, but after this I want to give back everything I've gained. Again, thank you for your backing, and support!

Shoutout to Lobster above for being motivating, inspiring, and incredibly helpful. You've kept me on track hardcore dude. Thank you. This is huge for me. Night of the Blood Moon is my first game, and this was a huge milestone that I've looked forward to. It has taken apprx. a month of on-and-off work to get it set-up. Not hard work, but small things that take a bit of time. STREAM Tuesday's and Thursdays (today) I've started streaming at 4pm EST. If anyone wants to join I'd love to see you come. I'm not a personality, but I really enjoy hanging out with the game's community. That alone is rewarding. I stream at https://www.twitch.tv/akustixTrailer #3 My goal with these trailers is to give the players more ideas for the soundtrack. The reason I'm running this kickstarter in the first place is to help fund a kick-ass OST. In this trailer I premeired what I think to be more 'boss-like' music. Let me know what you think.
Thank you to anyone, and everyone for following. This is a deeply exciting time. The kickstarter is at 71% and slowly climbing with 12 days left. If I make it to 100% I imagine this will be one of my most memorable achievements in life. Never before have I done anything like this. Check out this level from Night of the Blood Moon! This is one of the bosses - the conductor. The conductor sleeps until 3 triggers activate it. Upon activation it'll roam around conducting the level's instruments to fire at you, the player. If you are able to kill all the instruments before the conductor he'll run around useless and crying. We'll be building the reward for doing this on stream next week! Bosses in Night of the Blood Moon should be engaging, and more than just stupidly strong tanks. Enter the Gungeon does this well with it's large boss rooms, elaborating on the bullet gameplay. Instead of copying Enter the Gungeon or Nuclear Throne I'd like to bring new challenges. Kickstarter at 66%. Every dollar helps: http://kck.st/2NN2AXy

Incredible as always, Lobster. Thank you for calling me out on my posts dropped. That is just the kick in the pants I needed. You have more than some amazing ideas, and I'll definitely be making the most of many of them. In my notes I have the 'best times' to post on each platform. Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram. Tomorrow I'll start daily tweets, and utilize those highlight days as you have taught me with the Kickstarter. Expect an update to the backers tomorrow, and more consistently throughout the coming weeks. Thanks again! If you have backed it, thank you. Feel free to message me so I can send you extra swag. You've been more than amazing.

Lovely characters! My favourites are the drum and the Simpson horn! Good luck with the kickstarter!
Thanks Sundrop Dawn of the Second Day - 20% CompleteThis is so surreal watching it grow. I am sure I have a lower goal than most indie-devs would aim for. But as a solo developer on my first game it only seems right to aim low. I imagine these next 30 days will add a slight edge to every morning and every night. Regardless I am stupidly excited. A day 2 tip: Killing the blue bat last will activate it as a pet.

Incredible sprite work! Imma sucker for beautiful Link to the Past style camera. Really like the chaotic style of it.
Nintendo - inspiring from the beginning lol. Something about the multi-directional sprites in an orthographic view adds a sense of urgency I find Thanks TacoBell_Lord!! I'm going to go get myself a crunch wrap now.

You don't have to suffer to grow, but it speeds things up. Good luck to you. Sorry to be a downer but I anticipate your next period of growth in the next few years will be the grim realisation that sacrifice and effort has little bearing on success and you find yourself at the whims of a cold, uncaring universe determined by seemingly nothing.
Lol, probably though. Life is a challenge that doesn't quit. But I can't deny the moments of loss have shaped me more than moments gained. I think so. Going on from what overdramatic Joe said: I've learned to operate under the assumption that I am going work hard for several years, and create something which will be broadly ignored. But I did it for the love. Also guess each time I probably learn something. Or that's what I tell myself to feel better...
Seems like a lot of people aim for immediate success. The success isn't what drives me either. Similar to you it is the new challenge each day brings that pushes us - and a passion for accomplishment. It is definitely an odd feeling working for, as you said, something that will be widely ignored. This is where I feel the humility is. Who is it for if nobody cares... hopefully it's for you. Something my girlfriend and I are fully aware of is that this may be a one time chapter of my life. I have other paths set out, and if the time sacrificed doesn't feel like it was worth it then I move onto the next chapter.
